And it's delightful seeing folks misinterpreting and reading too much into specific words I posted already! Mwa ha ha!
In any case, again... we'll be announcing this one at Gen Con. Only a few weeks away!
I was thinking the same thing!
I considered stirring the pot a bit to see what else bubbled up, but I didn't want to be unnecessarily cruel. :)

There's a chap over on the Megatokyo forums who calls himself Invisigoth who's friends with cartoonist Fred Gallagher and loves spreading misinformation about the comic. I swear, you've been taking lessons from him on misdirection and evasiveness.

I am hoping to see an AP that starts the PCs as children.
Or something in the vein of Final Fantasy, an epic journey around the Inner Sea region.
Perhaps a new stab at rebelling against Cheliax?
Of course, my dream of Journey to the Centre of Golarion where PCs never see daylight and really get to know the Darklands would be great.
Or what about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Pathfinder's first entirely under water campaign?

Oh please, stir away. The entire point of this thread is to have some fun speculating and then see how close we got when GenCon rolls around.

Now here's some wild speculation:
If I remember correctly, Mr. Jacobs said elsewhere that the next AP would also be traditional, but did not specify traditional fantasy. Perhaps that was an allusion to gaining influence not from Dungeons & Dragons but perhaps the other powerhouse game that has been around forever, Call of Cthulhu. Perhaps we are getting our Dark Tapestry/Dominion of the Black AP finally. Something that harkens back to those epic campaigns Chaosium made for CoC. The seeds for this style of adventure have been sown in Dragon's Demand and Occult Mysteries and we all know how much of a CoC fan Mr. Jacobs is.

Maybe it's "traditional" as in "old-school"... vidjagames. Which means the introduction of a Plumber base class, a Hedgehog race, and various pieces of equipment including the Master Sword and the Magic Hammer (which is a mallet, not a warhammer).
And then the AP is all about running around a section of the world gathering 8 MacGuffins in order to stop three allied enemies (one of whom uses minions with the robot subtype, another of whom is a dragon, and the third of whom is a Nascent Demon Lord) from destroying the twin princesses of... um... some Inner Sea country that has two princesses.
EDIT: In case it wasn't clear, I was joking about this whole post.

Traditional?
Hmm... The Faerie Queen by Spencer... perhaps that's a stand-in for a First World campaign.
There's also The Canterbury Tales. A storytelling AP?
We also have the entire canon of Shakespeare to deal with. That's pretty traditional nowadays. We could have a Wars of the Roses AP. Or maybe a Hamlet AP, where half of the action is one depressed guy talking to himself. (Downloadable content -- hey, that's a tradition now too in video games! -- will include the Rosencrantz & Guidenstern Are Dead module.)
Of course, I don't think we've done the Trojan Wars yet. Or the Persian Wars.
But, I'm guessing Gilgamesh.

8-bit video games and medieval literature referenced in the same thread about role playing games? I believe we may be close to winning the internet here.
Hmm, I guess the question here with "traditional" is, which traditions are we talking about? ;)
(Not that vastly different traditions are necessarily mutually exclusive of each other.)

Technically, no she wasn't. She believed that the entity in question was once an Emphyreal Lord, (Of which, no mention is made yeah or nay), and desired to return to that status. As the 'After the Campaign' article details, the entity in question wishes to ascend to Deity status, as a Chaotic Neutral deity.
Still preferable to Demon Lord, not quite what Ayavah imagines...
edit: James Jacobs has hinted that assisting the entity in question in said pursuit, might serve as the seed of another Mythic AP, or possibly simply another AP. But nothing definite.

Okay, new theory. PFS seasons generally track loosely to whatever is going on in the AP line. PFS is also about to undergo some major changes for its new season. Though the Numeria stuff is there, there are lots of mentions about the Mwangi Expanse in the PFS Faction Letters. Maybe we are going back to Garund?
They are also trading out aasimar and tieflings as playable races for the new season and adding wayangs, kitsune, and nagaji. Isn't there someplace in Tien Xia that has a heavy connection to nagaji? It could be that we are going to be doing quite a bit of traveling in the AP after Iron Gods...
Or, I could just be totally off mark, too.

I missed the PFS connection with the Mwangi Expanse. Perhaps we are going back to Garund...
The only thing I can really say about that however, is it was specified we are getting another traditional AP, and traditional usually implies some kind of medieval European-based fantasy in the vein of old-school D&D. This implies to me that a Mwangi AP may not be on the slate for the next AP.
It's stated upthread by Mr. Jacobs that we will not be returning to Tian Xia yet.
I know the clues are out there to really spoil this before the announcement is made. Let's get to digging guys and see how close we can get!

Jade Regent's coming and going didn't result in ninja and samurai in every adventure and product we did thereafter.
Likewise, Iron Gods won't infest our things with robots and lasers.
Numeria has been a part of Golarion since day one, and I've always intended to devote an Adventure Path to it. If that's not your thing, I certainly understand. I do hope you'll check out how we handle it, though! But six months later, we'll be back in familiar fantasy territory with Giant Slayer... and the one after that as well!
Quoted from Mr. Jacobs' post here.
Was the quote on "traditional fantasy" quote in question referring to the one below from "Is Golarion becoming too genre inclusive?" thread? Because if it is, here I read familiar fantasy territory, not "traditional" fantasy. This might be a game changer, as the two are not necessarily synonymous. They can be, but they can have slightly different meanings.

Or maybe the post-Giantslayer AP is one in which the players must all play as a spellcaster's Familiar!

Wait could "familiar" mean we're going back to an area of Golarion we've previously gone too?
so excluding recents (last 2-3 years) we've been to....
Varisia (not very likely)
Katapesh
Cheliax
River Kingdoms
Sargava
Mwangi Expanse
Ustalav
Tian Xia (Mingkai)
My bets on the Mwangi Expanse.

There seems to be a lot of interest in Galt... or at the very least a few very vocal Galt cheerleaders. In any event, and in order to maintain expectations... no, no plans for Galt anytime soon.
It WILL be an AP that touches on themes that have come up time and time again in this and other threads, but so far no one has actually guessed its actual location or specific themes. It's one I've been setting up for a while, though, here and there in other APs and in Campaign Setting books and the like... one that I've had planned for a while.
We're only a few weeks away from announcing it, so patience! ;-)
Got a few hints/tidbits here:
A) So everything before this post we can rule out as wrong on some level.B) touches on themes that have come up several times in this thread and other threads.
C)they've been setting up for this one in APs, campaign setting books, and similar things
And from before
D) "Someone in this thread is so close that they're practically right." (we could assume close as in close to the right answer, or that their guess of the location is close in physical proximity to the actual location.)
E) "Familiar" fantasy
Themes that I've seen mentioned in this thread/other threads:
1) Azlanti (they were mentioned with Aboleth as one of the possible topics of the AP, but an AP might deal with the Azlanti without specifically referring to their connection with the aboleth and thus avoid the "nobody guess the specific issue" comment located above
2) Gods/What makes 'em/What are they? (Starstone, mythic, Razmir trying to ascend, etc.)
3) Humanocentrism (Why are the demihumans so on the decline/focused out of on Golarion?)
4) Lovecraftian/tentacle-y space aberration stuff (Dominion of the Black, Outer Gods, brain collectors, etc.)
5) Runes/runelords/Thassilon (I believe runelords have been ruled out for this one?)
Okay, what themes can we rule out from the above?
I think of these, #4 in my judgement is the one we can rule out the most, even though it might arguably qualify as "familiar fantasy." Why? Because the "familiar fantasy" quote read to me as something of an assurance that they were returning to something compatible with a baseline generic fantasy world. If the Lovecraftian stuff was pretty mixed in with the space stuff, I doubt it would've been mentioned along with the Giant Slayer AP as a seeming reassurance they'd be returning to something vaguely similar (if not exactly traditional) to Giant Slayer.
#5 They could conceivably do something on Thassilon or Thassilonian ruins (this would be close to guessing something on Azlant), but runelords are out. So this will be an iffy maybe at best. #1 also similarly iffy on it was mentioned as an issue, but specifically connected with Aboleth.
#3, we could see themes with this answered in the AP that might focus on the decline of the dwarves. Earlier in this thread I had guessed reclaiming a lost sky citadel in the Five Kings Mountains. If we prevented one from falling (like say, Highhelm) this would be very close in meaning, but not quite. Especially if it meant visiting/looting fallen sky citadels. It would also synch up nicely with the PFS theme for this year.
#2 Gods- the subject of gods has always been somewhat vague. Even passing the Test of the Starstone doesn't make you a full-blown god by itself. We might be finding out some more about what makes a god soon in the Iron Gods. In this AP maybe we'll figure out a little more? Perhaps instead of preventing a god from resurrecting/waking up, we'll be preventing one from ascending? Earlier in this thread several people said guessed taking out Razmir. What if the key was actually preventing his ascension to godhood, and taking him out might just be an incidental part of that?
Also on the subject of gods, several people have guessed the Mwangi Expanse could be the next stop. I could see if we went there, we could take on Walkena, the child god.
Or if we were to go for something connected with Jotembe, we could guess that King of Biting Ants (Mythic Realms, pg. 9) might be the villain/a villain in the AP. However, this involved planetary space/Lovecraftian stuff, so this may rule out the King of Biting Ants unless they focused on some kind of foul cult theme. The good thing about the King of Walking Ants is that he's been mentioned in both an AP and a campaign setting volume. http://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/King_of_Biting_Ants

I think this may be it. Something along the lines of D1-D2 (Kuo-toa/Skum) and the maybe war from the sea/Saltmarsh trilogy.
Just a guess based on another guess.

In my opinion the most likely one will be a Mwangi expanse AP, probably dealing with Jatembe and similer arcainists examining ruins and exploring the ancient civilizations he came from. Maybe also dealing with the nine-facet ring and the ten magic warriors.
evidence,
1.The AP will be Familiar: Meaning previous location or theme.
2.There has been a few mentions on the thread about the Mwangi Expanse along with PFS talk about it.
3.Adam said it was already mentioned here.
4.the other commonly spoken ones are Tian Xia(which is a no), Galt(which is a no), and various ones about aboleths (which don't fit any previous local or theme).
Conclusion: a Mwangi Expanse AP will be most likely, with a new campaign setting volume for the area, and a players companion of people of the Jungle, which will deal with the expanse and Sargava, along with detailing Mwangi humans(and their various sub-ethnicities) and colonial cheliaxians.
Test: If no response is given from the paizo office, their silence will be taken as a confirmation.

Don't think that test is gonna work out. Silence from the paizo office could mean anything---especially considering GenCon is coming up.
And we have already done a Jungle AP. If they did another one they'd have to make it stand out considerably from Serpent's Skull beyond "facing different enemies".

True, though considering the AP is meant to be familiar in relation to prevous APs and the future lineup from PFS is pointing to Tian Xia and the Mwangi expanse.
Also they did an AP with giant slaying before Giant Slayer, and the SS AP dealt with an Azlanti ruin with serpentfolk baddies, I think they could do another Jungle AP with a different selection of foes, locations, and ancient civilizations. Possibly.

Looking over all the stuff just now that was mentioned before James Jacobs said "nobody's guessed the location", there is one thing that might sink the Mwangi Expanse theory. Garund was one of the guessed locations, and the Mwangi Expanse is part of Garund. Therefore, depending on how literal we take it, we may be able to rule out the Mwangi Expanse.
