Scarab Sages

Which, of course, means I also have to delay going to the comic book store. That's cool. Sometimes it's good to vary my routine, just to throw them off.

Scarab Sages

I introduced the boy to John Wick last night. Just the first one. He liked it.

Scarab Sages

By watching just one of them, though, I was able to get to bed a little after 9 pm. I ended up getting a good 9.5 plus hours of sleep last night. Something I desperately needed.

Scarab Sages

And my new book for work was delivered yesterday - A Practical Guide to Expansion Joints. It was put together by the Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association.

It's a real page turner!

Scarab Sages

If you're an engineering geek like me, that is.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, time to move on with the rest of my day.

Scarab Sages

Grocery shopping is done. Now I’m just waiting while the tree guy finishes his work.

Scarab Sages

I was a bit bummed at the grocery store this morning. They had no turkey pieces parts in the meat section. I was hoping to smoke some turkey this weekend.

Hell, I’d have even settled for one of their Split Turkey Breasts. Apparently, however, they’re having warehouse issues. At least, that’s what the young man working the area said. He wasn’t quite clear on what issues, but I doubt it’s the kind of thing management would take the time to explain to him.

Scarab Sages

I’ve got to remember to run the sprinklers tonight. The rain we were told was coming never did materialize. Stoopid rain. Never around when you need it.

Scarab Sages

WOOT!!

Just saw an article reporting that Disney actually might be planning something smart with Star Wars by releasing the original film in theaters in 2027, for the 50th anniversary. And the rumor is it might be the actual theatrical release.

Shut up and take my money!!!

I mean, wasn’t it Revenge of the Sith they released in theaters again for one weekend awhile back? And it made like $25 million.

Scarab Sages

Woot! The sequel!!!

The tree guys are finished and my front trees look great. When winter comes around, I’ll have him come back out to really cut back the two smaller trees out front. I think they call it “topping” the tree.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah!!!

Since Paizo doesn’t print their Planet Stories line anymore, I’ve had to resort to other sites to get copies of the books I don’t have. I just retrieved two books from my mailbox: The Planet Killers and Sojan The Swordsman/Under the Warrior Star.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, that depends on how reasonable we're all willing to be. Looking at you Universe. I'm nearly always reasonable.

Scarab Sages

Yes. I kept a straight face when I typed that.

Scarab Sages

Saturday afternoon and evening went well enough. I had package delivered. One was the Planet Stories books. The other was a book about Denys Cowan and his art. That one I hadn't been expecting until Tuesday.

Scarab Sages

Then I spent most of my late afternoon reading through some comics and my new Heavy Metal issue (still have to finish that one). After dinner, I started a rewatch of the horror drama Happiness. That's another South Korean show.

Scarab Sages

While I was watching, my daughter came down to tell me there was a gecko in her room. So I went up to see about catching it. As soon as I turned the light on, the little shit crawled in the gap between her shades and the top of the window frame.

Since it was late, and I didn't feel like dismantling the shade to try and get at the little turd, I told my daughter to go sleep in the guest room. Later today, the boy and I will get in there to try and track down the elusive reptile.

I would prefer to "catch and release" it. That's my usual MO when these things get in the house. I'll kill it if I have to, though.

Scarab Sages

We did end up getting a bit of rain yesterday, but it wasn't much. I intended to run the sprinklers, but forgot. So I'll have to maybe write a note to myself, reminding me to do that tonight.

Scarab Sages

I've been fighting a cold, and bought some store-brand cold caplets yesterday, both daytime and nighttime. Took some of the daytime stuff yesterday afternoon, with no problem. The nighttime stuff, though....

I took the nighttime stuff before bed last night, and I'm still feeling the effects. It was even worse a few hours ago, when I first got up to take my medicine.

Needless to say, though I may take some of the daytime stuff a little later, I will not be taking the nighttime stuff again. It just knocks me for too much of a loop, and I have to get moving more quickly on weekdays.

Scarab Sages

As for the rest of the day....not much planned.

I've got at least two loads of laundry to wash. And some cleaning up to be done around the house. I'd also like to get some reading done. And add some more comics into my new catalog app.

Scarab Sages

I might also see if the wife wants to take the kids over to Walmart for some back to school shopping. They don't start until the 13th, but it might be worth it going today. The boy certainly needs new clothes for high school.

That doesn't have to be today, though. As I recall, the boy has an orientation for highschool on Thursday, and I was thinking of taking off work so the wife and I could both go. If I do, then we could probably do the back to school shopping the same day.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!! They’re rearranging another grocery store!!! The horror!!!

Scarab Sages

Tired zombie is tired. Again. I’ve got to make sure to go to bed early tonight.

Scarab Sages

Happy Monday?!?

Scarab Sages

That remains to be seen. Already, there have been....omens.

The drive to work was exceedingly annoying for the first half. There was more than the usual amount of idiots on the road. Once I got up to the interstate, things improved a bit.

Now that I'm hearing in the office, Thomas is out (again). And there is a beeping noise. It's fairly steady. Not too loud. Not sure where it's coming from. I'm debating whether to try and track it down.

Scarab Sages

I did end up solving the gecko problem in my daughter's room. First, I checked the top of the blinds to make sure it wasn't hiding in there. Then I put some painter's tape over the gap between the blinds' top and the window frame, so that he wouldn't be able to crawl back in there. Then I waited.

Sure enough, last night she called down to say it was on her ceiling. So I enlisted the boy to help wrangle it. We did manage to catch it alive, but the boy injured it. I release it outside, but it was still there, and feebly twitching, this morning.

It's no longer in the house, though. So there's that.

Scarab Sages

One thing about the drive in I failed to mention...When I got off the interstate, the light was blinking red where I take the u-turn under the overpass. That actually turned out to be a blessing for me, though. It gave just enough delay to other cars that I was able to pull out onto the feeder road without a problem.

Scarab Sages

The guy who just got to the office thinks the beeping sound is a battery backup in one of the IT rooms. He's an electrical guy, so I can see where he'd know.

Scarab Sages

Not much planned for today. I've got a meeting at 9:30 (so in about 3 hours). Probably work through some more training. Other than that, who knows....

Scarab Sages

Later this week, I am hoping to take off on Thursday. The boy has his Freshman Orientation at high school. And one of us needs to go with him.

I might wait until after the morning meeting before putting in for any PTO that day. If there's something important work wise, I'd rather be here.

Scarab Sages

And I'm just remembering it's going to be a long day today. I've got Troop Committee meetings starting up again. They're typically the first Monday of each month. The very first one of the year is tonight.

Regular Scout meetings won't start until next week.

Scarab Sages

Not Happy Tuesday.

Scarab Sages

The omens I read were correct yesterday, and it was a horrible day. I wasn't let go from my job, but it's clear they're probably going to do it in the very near future.

Scarab Sages

Ah well. I really liked that place. Most of the time. It's a lot of stress though. So it might be better if I was working elsewhere.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, that's my plan. I had already been putting in applications in a few places, thinking the company might be in trouble. Now I'm just accelerating that plan.

Scarab Sages

Thanks to the added stress of all that, I hardly slept last night. Add that to the cold I've been fighting, and I feel like utter dog crap. So, I sent a Teams message and email to my supervisor, letting him know I was feeling bad and was going to work from home today.

Scarab Sages

Better that than getting behind the wheel of a car dog tired. Even with a lot of coffee, that's a risk I'm no longer willing to take. Besides, the amount of coffee it would take to keep me going would have me feeling even worse.

Scarab Sages

Luckily, all I'm doing is working through some training exercises. So I've got plenty of time for other things.

Scarab Sages

I imagine news of my misery will make some folks around here...perhaps not "happy" but maybe "pleased".

It's okay. I know I can be kind of a butthead at times.

Scarab Sages

We had the first meeting of the Scout Troop committee last night. And for some reason the ex-Scoutmaster (who is no longer on the committee) keeps showing up. I might have a talk with the committee head about that.

Scarab Sages

I suppose I should get moving on to other things. It's almost 7 am.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday?!? Who knows? I should try to be hopeful, though.

Scarab Sages

Had a good night's sleep though. And a decent drive to (what for now remains) the office.

Scarab Sages

Plus, had a good run yesterday - put in something like 20 applications.

Scarab Sages

And I even had a few places reach out to me already. That was quicker than I expected.

Scarab Sages

And I reached out to one of my old coworkers at the place I worked when I first moved down here. Thankfully, he remembered me. He's the head of all the mechanical engineers now. I had sent him a connection request on LinkedIn, but he hadn't accepted it yet.

So, anyway, I emailed him. We had a brief, but pleasant, exchange. He said he doesn't get on LinkedIn that much, which is why he never saw my connection request. Maybe that's true. I don't really care.

Scarab Sages

Still, if he does accept my connection, I hope he sees that I'm now licensed in six states. I swore I never go back to that company, but if he were to reach out to me today and ask, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Scarab Sages

The boy had his first PLC meeting of the year last night. The last time he held the position of quartermaster was under the old scoutmaster (who's kind of a wanker), and that a-hole didn't want the quartermasters in the meeting. Although that didn't seem to apply to his son, the other quartermaster at the time.

Anyway, now we've got a new and improved scoutmaster, and he wanted the quartermasters to attend.

Afterward, I asked the boy if he at least contributed something. He said yes.

Scarab Sages

I'm still in my rewatch of the Korean show Happiness, but I'll probably have to put it off for tonight. And maybe the next few nights. The part one of the second season of Wednesday drops today.
