First there was news the company has hired a lead mechanical engineer. Since there isn't enough work for two of us at the moment, such a move has me worried. So I'll have to make sure I have a backup plan in place.
Then my wife had absolutely zero real plans for dinner. So I had to scramble and find myself something. Luckily, I already kind of had a backup plan for that. Experience is a wonderful teacher.
Finally, I slept very poorly. Partly due to some new mystery pain. Partly due to my usual whatever the hell causes me to wake up in the middle of the night and have trouble getting back to sleep.
All of which means today is going to suck balls. I'll be here in the office most of the day. Then I get to go home and try to figure out what I'll have for dinner. Then later tonight I have to travel to the airport and pick up my boy.
He, at least, was one bright spot on yesterday. He sent his mom pictures of himself and a classmate participating in the wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
At least I had a pretty good drive in this morning. Could have been worse. I saw a road sign saying there was a major accident at a nearby road. Either it was an old warning, and the thing was already cleared, or it had just happened, and the traffic hadn't built up yet. Either way, I dodged a proverbial bullet.
Maybe. It's really a wait and see thing. I had a somewhat decent drive in, despite a few jackasses. It was raining, though. And that made the roads a little more....interesting.
And I had a long day yesterday. I was already tired from a poor night's sleep, then worked all day in the office. Then went home but had to go off again almost right away to get myself some dinner. And late last night I had to go pick the boy up from the airport. That was far less problematic than I thought it might be, which was good. I still didn't get home until after 11 pm, so that was bad.
And the wife announced her intentions to drive to Louisiana today with the kids, so they could see their grandparents (and some other relatives). So, I'll leave work around 11 am to work from home the rest of the day. That way the dog doesn't have to spend hours in her kennel.
Which also means I'll have to work from home tomorrow as well. That does not bother me in the least.
Anyway, the boy is back from his trip. He had a blast. Saw lots of cool stuff. And, as I'm sure I mentioned, he got to participate in the wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We have a few pictures from that, but his teacher got video of it, which she's going to share.
So then until at least Sunday I'll be a bachelor again.
And since I don't have much on TV to watch, I should be able to get some reading done. Especially with the enhanced peace and quiet.
I did order some new movies. It's a 4K set of The Naked Gun, Top Secret, and Airplane. They call it the ZAZ Collection. That won't arrive until sometime after the 26th of March, though.
Well, I didn't have to drive to the office for work. And I've actually got stuff to do. And I got a pretty decent night's sleep.
On the other hand, my stomach has been bothering me. So...mixed bag I suppose.
Thing is, I shouldn't have much work to do. The one big project I'm currently still on was supposed to have an issuance for civil/structural and I&E today. It would be IFA. Then the client asked the PM to re-issue the IFA Mechanical package with some of the comments they had incorporated.
Of course, I'm pretty sure some of those comments were the question type. And never got answered by the client....
Anyway, since I finished Person of Interest on Monday, I wasn't sure what to watch last night. I went looking for something new, but nothing jumped out at me.
Finally settled on a rewatch of Daredevil Season 1. Just to remember what Marvel TV could be like without much Disney involvement.
Such a good show. And you kind of get to see some boobies. However briefly.
Now I've got to finish up here (for now?) so I can feed the dog, then get to work.
Ugh. Work has mostly been annoying as hell today. Not difficult. Just annoying.
Even though my yesterDAY was kind of blah, the evening was a little better. Watched one of my Youtube shows. Ate some dinner. Watched Reacher. Then watched more of Daredevil Season 1.
With the wife out of town, I thought I was going to have to wait to watch Reacher. Turns out, her parents watch it as well. So we were both able to see it last night.
Despite staying up a bit late, I still got a pretty good night's sleep. So there's that as well. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I was looking forward to the wife taking the kids to Louisiana. The possibility of getting several decent night's sleep in a row.
It should end up being a pretty typical Friday. Work. Lunchtime run over to the cleaners. Some mapping. Maybe some comic book reading. And the Youtube show Friday Night Tights.
I'm going to try watching the show through the Youtube app on the TV. I did that yesterday with Open Bar. It was kind of cool.
Plus, I've figured out how to mirror my phone screen on the TV. Now I can watch my music video mix on the big screen. HUZZAH!
Looks like it's going to be a bright, sunshiny day. And since I don't have to worry about picking up my daughter from her art class, my morning schedule is a bit less time-restricted.
So I might just end up buying a new add-on to CC3+ today. I've been looking at last year's annual, and it's got mostly good stuff. Including a stairs feature that looked really cool.
Also, R.I.P. George Foreman. He was pretty cool.
There is no sports section here at Paizo, or I'd have considered making an R.I.P. Thread for him. Then again, I doubt a lot of the folk around here would even know who he was.
I'm a little peeved at my wife. I found out yesterday that even though she and the kids had been in town since Wednesday evening, my mother hadn't seen them as of yesterday afternoon. When she's just a few miles from her parent's house.
Just goes to show...If you want something done properly, you have to do it yourself.
I'm actually considering getting some boiled crawfish for dinner tonight. Even though I probably should not. The grocery store has them, and they're typically not too bad.
Three more episodes and I'm done with my rewatch of Daredevil Season 1. Not sure if I'll move on to Season 2. I might try to find something else to watch. Something new. Or maybe I'll just take a break from evening TV and read instead.
I do have one series eventually coming out. It's Bosch: Legacy with Titus Welliver. The wife and I have enjoyed all the other Bosch stuff, so we were delighted to here this final season of the second series was coming.
Anyway, I've got a few things to do before I start my day in earnest.
Maybe.
The weather's warm, but cloudy. Not sure if we're supposed to get rain today. I'll have to check the weather app. Hopefully, we're not due for any, since the wife and kids are driving back from Louisiana today.
It certainly has been a busy morning, though. I didn't wake up until 7:40 am, which is late for me. Granted, I've been staying up late since they've been gone, so I am kind of needing to catch up on sleep.
Anyway, since getting up I've had two cups of coffee, fed the dog, prepped a pork butt and bacon to go in the smoker, started the stuff actually cooking, gave the showers stall a much needed cleaning, got a shower (and shaved my head), put a load of clothes in the laundry, and made a very small grocery list to pick up some extra things.
And that's just the last 2 hours and 18 minutes.
Speaking of the wife and kids coming home.....There goes my blessed silence.

So to speak, anyway. Nothing is ever truly quiet when I'm around. There were once people on these boards who could attest to that. They were the cool kids. The actual FAWTLY Folk. They've all gone now.
Anyway, now I'm just waiting for the first batch of bacon to finish cooking. Then I'll take it out and put some more in the smoker.
After that, I can take a drive over to the grocery store and pet store (to get kibble for her majesty).
I see news that yet another Disney film seems to be failing miserably at the box office. So that's something to make the day a bit brighter.
I also heard that a certain new D+ TV show is doing crap all in the ratings. Sad, but not surprising. Disney has, in my never-at-all humble opinion damaged their brands too much. The same can probably be said for much of Hollywood (and other aspects of the entertainment industry).
All I can say further about that is...you get what you asked for.
Anyway, I've still got at least one more load of laundry to do today. And I want to try and do a bit more cleaning up around the house. And I want to read some more.
Tired zombie is tired. In the last three hours I’ve been to the grocery and pet store, cleaned around the house. Finished one load of laundry, started another load of laundry, and switched out the rack of bacon in the smoker three times (the last batch is in there now).
The cleaning took up most of that time. I dusted off the TV stand, the shelves on either side of it, and a few other shelves around the living room area. I also pulled the dog kennel out from its corner and cleaned up back there. And I cleaned out the sink.
