The emissions test on my truck was done almost a week ago. I'm hoping that was enough time for it to get into the state system, then I can renew my registration.

And I've got to make sure they boy gets packed up for his camping trip with the scouts this weekend. We meet over at the church by about 5:45 pm this evening. It'll be a bit quicker departure, because they don't bring the troop trailer on this trip. Since this is a big event at the campground, all the cooking is done for them. So all they need to bring is the troop tents and their own stuff.

Scarab Sages

I was hoping to go have lunch with the wife over at Wacky Mongolian today, but with the kids home for the teacher's Winter Break, I don't think that's a good idea.

Unless we can convince at least one of them to come with us....

Scarab Sages

On the other hand....we can just get Cane's and call it a day.

Scarab Sages

Now I've just got to figure out what to do for dinner. I'm considering BBQ this week. It's what we usually do on Fridays, but we skipped it last week.

Scarab Sages

Happy Saturday?!?

Scarab Sages

Technically, I'm already working. It's work via text, however, so there's not much for me to actually do, and I can take it with me.

I did wake up with a headache, however. It might be due to starting with my cholesterol medicine again. Or it might be due to the rain. Time, and some self experimentation, will tell.

Scarab Sages

The boy is off camping. Hopefully staying dry. They only had 13 scouts on the camping trip this weekend. Not a lot.

Scarab Sages

We did end up having BBQ for dinner last night. The wife and I did, anyway. The kids wanted popcorn chicken.

Scarab Sages

The dog chased a squirrel out in the backyard. So she needed to be cleaned off with one of the spare towels she hasn't yet chewed. Emphasis on yet.

The wife and I were discussing the dog's anti-Sciuridae tendency, with the wife explaining it as being the reason she can't leave the blinds open during the day. The dog would see the squirrels outside, invading her backyard, and go a&+#%!%.

My mother's chihuahua used to do the same thing, only she was the same size as, and often smaller than, the targets of her ire.

Scarab Sages

I'm considering doing a pork butt in the smoker this weekend. Which means, of course, that red beans and rice would follow on Tuesday. Mmmm.....

Scarab Sages

I don't recall if I mentioned it, but my supervisor asked me to get my PE license in Kentucky. Apparently, we're going to be bidding on some jobs there. So they need to get the firm licensed, which means an engineer has to be licensed.

Thankfully, this one seems to be easy. Just fill out an application, pay the application fee ($300), and have your NCEES record transmitted.

Scarab Sages

Now I just have to wait for approval. Hopefully, Kentucky will be more like Louisiana, and less like New Mexico.

Scarab Sages

It's weird to think - two years ago my PE license wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Now I'm licensed in three states (soon to be four).

Scarab Sages

I saw an article yesterday reminiscing about an old late-80s TV show called Werewolf, with Chuck Connors. It was kind of a silly story line, but the FX were done by the great Rick Baker. I remember watching the show and loving it.

Scarab Sages

Ugh. More rain. At least I don’t have to go anywhere.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday!!!

Scarab Sages

Even if it is much colder. Temps in the 40s at present, with a nasty little wind.

The sun is shining, though. So there's that. It'll only get us up to the mid-50s, however. Probably less, if that wind keeps up.

Scarab Sages

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

My computer key-board is broken. Not any of the keys themselves, or its basic functionality. NO! That'd be too easy. Instead, it's one of the little stand pieces on bottom. A small corner of the plastic that keeps it locked open broke off. So now that little stand closes if you hit the keyboard in the wrong way, throwing the whole thing off balance.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid cheap piece of junk. I wouldn't be surprised if it was built in some commie sweatshop.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, the boy will be home soonish. So I'll have to keep my daily posting short (for now) so I can be at the church to pick him up.

Scarab Sages

And now the boy is back home, safe and (relatively) sound. One of the adult leaders mentioned seeing my brother there....a lot. He said every time he turned around it seemed there my brother was. In my brother's defense, he was one of the people in charge. So if they hadn't seen much of him, I'd think something had been wrong.

Scarab Sages

It's not like he was stalking them, or anything. I'm usually the one who does that.

Scarab Sages

I finally got around to watching my 4K edition of Lifeforce last night. The FX looked great, especially the space scenes. The 4K version was only for the theatrical cut, however. Still, the set I bought has the director's cut in bluray at least. I might watch that at some point in the near future.

Scarab Sages

I'm smoking a pork butt today. Also smoking some maple bacon at the same time. Which means we'll be making red beans and rice this week. It's almost time to get the first round of maple bacon out of the smoker.

Scarab Sages

Happy Monday?!?

Scarab Sages

We'll see. It's a cold one, that's for certain. I think we're supposed to see winter's last gasp over the next week or so. For us at least.

Scarab Sages

The drive in was decent, though. A bit crowded, after last week. And there were a few more idiots than usual. Including an a-hole 18-wheeler cutting people off then putting on his brakes.

Scarab Sages

As for the work week itself, I'm not sure how it will go. I had two major projects. One of them is pretty much done (issued for construction). The other is kind of stalled but will hopefully get moving soon. I finished all my PE personal development hours, so no training to charge to my timesheet.

Hopefully, something else will drop soon.

Scarab Sages

The pork butt I smoked yesterday was, of course, delicious. Along with some baked potatoes (air fried, actually), it made a nice meal.

And the wife told me she's going to do the red beans and rice today, instead of the usual pork chops. So all will be right in the world - red beans and rice on Monday.

Scarab Sages

And Thomas is still here, so I guess they didn't let him go. That's nice. I don't know him that well, but he seems a nice guy. And I hate to see anyone let go.

Scarab Sages

The hydrotests I witnessed on Saturday went well. Initially there was only supposed to be one. Then a test being conducted on Friday had to be rescheduled for Saturday when they had a valve start leaking.

Technically, I wasn't on the clock for either one of them. Since it isn't a lot of work, I didn't mind. And it kept the client happy.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday!!!

Scarab Sages

At least, that's what I'm hoping. The weather is a bit milder today. And the drive to the office was decent enough. And I'm only working a half day today. And since this past weekend was a camping weekend, we don't have a scout meeting tonight.

Scarab Sages

On the other hand...

Yesterday was a boring day at work, with not much to do. I don't expect today to be any different. And the reason I'm taking a half day is to go to the GI doctor. That's an appointment I made about a month ago. So the immediate reason doesn't much apply anymore, but there are still some underlying issues I'd like to discuss with him.

And even though there's no meeting tonight, I won't get much rest after work. The boy has a meeting for his school trip to D.C. at spring break. The wife will be taking him to that, so I have to take my daughter to art class, then pick her up once it's done.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid coffee machine. I hit the button for 10 oz, but I'm pretty sure it did more than that. It's a design flaw I've noticed that sometimes a little extra water get stuck in the reservoir, so when you first turn the thing on in the morning it might put out a little extra in that first cup.

Scarab Sages

Normally, a little extra coffee isn't a problem, but for my first cup I usually try for a combo of two sizes that add up to 14-16 ounces. My cup is supposed to hold about 18, so a little extra could put it over the edge.

Scarab Sages

I say the cup is "supposed" to hold about 18, but I think that might have been a bit of false advertising.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, I mentioned today's weather is supposed to be milder. I might as well enjoy it while I can, since the next few days (through at least Saturday or Sunday) are going to suck balls weather-wise.

Scarab Sages

Hopefully, I'll hear back from Kentucky today.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, it's a lot colder this morning (and will get colder). Plus, traffic somewhat annoying as hell for a good portion of my drive. So, no.

Scarab Sages

My half day off yesterday went pretty smooth. The visit with the GI doctor was routine and unenlightening. He basically said he thinks I've got a bit of IBS and sent me on my way.

Scarab Sages

Then later in the evening, I found a text from an annoying coworker asking me if I had left for the day. This was around 4 in the afternoon, and the text had been sent shortly after 1 pm. I didn't bother to answer it, but I did check my email and see the same guy had sent me some stuff that was "hot".

It's hot stuff for a client rep I really don't like, so even though I'm already at the office that crap can wait until 7 am when I officially start on the clock.

Scarab Sages

And my other coworker is telling me the project that's been pretty idle for a while is finally getting kicked into high gear. Which means the client has decided on yet another path forward.

So we'll get some work done, then everything will go to hell again and it will all have been for nothing.

Scarab Sages

Still waiting on Kentucky. Come on, guys! Don't let me down.

Scarab Sages

Yesterday evening, bringing my daughter to her pottery class was annoying as hell. On and off rain, and lots of traffic. The upside was that on the way back home from dropping her off I stopped in at HEB and picked up a pack of three rotisserie leg quarters.

Mmmm....rotisserie chicken.

Scarab Sages

So I had two pieces for my dinner last night and will save the last quarter for my lunch tomorrow.

Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

Happy Thursday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, if it's anything like yesterday, it'll definitely be a cold and boring Thursday.
