It’s sad, but that’s reality.
Perhaps it could serve as a warning to others.
See, I’m useful. I can be used as a bad example.
At least the weather is somewhat pleasant. For the moment, anyway. We’re supposed to get rain starting tomorrow through Saturday.
But, yeah. Now that I think about it, I haven’t had a decent Christmas since 2016. Whether it’s sickness (mine or others), the car crash from two years back, or other crap. This holiday has become cursed.
Again, I suppose I should at least be thankful I woke up on the right side of the grass.
Always gotta try and find the silver lining. Especially when there’s a whole lot of clouds.
Have I mentioned that getting old sucks.
All our presents have been opened. We didn't do a lot this year. Christmas, to be honest, has become sort of a cursed holiday for us. I'm tempted to not even bother celebrating it next year.
I got The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on 4K, a very old an used copy of C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy, and (for some reason) two tubs for doing BBQ prep in.
Oh well, one out of three ain't bad.
Seriously, though. I make a list for a reason, and the wife orders something I don't have on my list. I know she meant well, but that's just one more (two actually) bulky items I have to find a place to store. Item's I'll probably never use, because I've got other items that work just fine.
And there were two of those things. Couple that with the very old set of used books she ordered, tells me she wasn't even paying much attention when she ordered them.
Next year, I'll order my own gifts.
Here I am, being an a-hole on Christmas. I should probably learn to appreciate the gifts I'm given.
And that still won't stop me from ordering my own stuff next year.
This is, I suppose, the one time of year I wish I lived closer to more family. We face a day of doing...the same thing as usual. We're not going anywhere. We're not doing any special cooking. Nothing.
We we're supposed to go over to my brother's house. However, he's just out of the hospital, my son has the flu, my wife and I both feel like crap (for different reasons), and even my daughter is coughing a bit this morning. So we're staying home.
Sadly, that's become something of a norm for most holidays. It's just another day to stay home doing the usual.
I do feel a little bad for my negative reaction to my gifts from the children.
Anyway, I will at least go cook the Christmas bacon. I suppose that's at least something special.
I am suddenly reminded of an idea - that those who inherit are less than those who built what is being inherited. Sometimes, I find that to be very true.
Did I mention we had horrific rain last night. Pretty sure some hail was mixed in. It was so bad, I know if I’d been driving in it, I’d have pulled over to the side of the road.
Woot!
Time to watch Fellowship of the Ring Extended edition in 4K! Part 1 of perhaps the greatest film trilogy of all time.
Woot the second!!!
Two Towers Extended Edition 4K!!!
One thing I love about this collection, the discs for each film are colored the same as the old DVD box sets of the films. Green for Fellowship. Red for Two Towers. Blue for Return of the King.
And each of the 4K extended versions is on two discs.
I probably won’t be watching Return tonight. I don’t think I want to be up past 10 pm.
I was just thinking they should get Sean Bean to play Dumbledore in the new Harry Pottet TV series. He’d be a fitting choice for a character who dies.
Every year when I watch the trilogy, I’m amazed at how well the special effects hold up. They still look as good as they did 20+ years ago.
I doubt it. At least I don’t think it’ll be terrible. Give it a few hours though.
Not much scheduled for today. At some point I’ll put on Return of the King. That’s the only thing I’ve got planned for today.
Although, to be honest, I probably could have watched it last night. I still ended up staying awake until well after 10 pm. I was just watching Babylon 5 instead.
It’s kind of sad how little trust I have in Hollywood to make something new that’s actually good. Instead, most of what I watch is foreign stuff or old stuff.
There are exceptions of course. Rare exceptions. Reacher, on Amazon, was one of those. And a surprising one. I’m amazed they allowed such a clearly “toxic” male to be portrayed as a hero. We’ll see if that continues in the upcoming Season 3.
Speaking of foreign shows. There’s a new South Korean zombie series coming out in February. It’s called Newtopia, and one of the stars is Jisoo from Blackpink (a K-pop group). I believe it’s going to stream on Amazon.
I’ve typically enjoyed the South Korean shows I’ve watched. And their zombie shows have been pretty cool. Always with a twist of some kind. Although I think this new one is going to be part romance in the time of zombies.
I was considering going to the movie theater to see Nosferatu, but I’m really not in the mood to do that. Maybe some other time.
Slim pickings in the Weird News department today, but I did what I could.
I thought about working on some maps today, but flu boy had been all over my computer. So that’s kind of out the window for a few days.
For now, I desperately need a second cup of coffee.
Followed shortly thereafter by a third cup.
And I was just thinking - since it’s Thursday there’s a good chance I could have a new Open Bar on YouTube later this afternoon. That could be fun.
And there’s always the old standby - catching up on reading.
It doesn’t feel like Friday. Feels more like Sunday. I blame the PTO and days off. They always throw things for a loop.
Hell, I’ve even been sleeping in. Didn’t get out of bed this morning until about quarter after 7.
And I actually slept pretty well last night, despite being a bit gassy when I went to bed.
Didn’t do much of anything yesterday. Finished up with the LotR trilogy. Watched some YouTube. Watched some B5. That’s it. That was my day.
Today could likely be something similar. Although instead of watching TV, I may take advantage of my PTO and re-bag & board some of my collection.
I don’t plan on going anywhere, but we’ll see what the day brings.
