I'm sure the Universe is not alone in that, however.
The new manager at my comic book store is a nice guy, but from my conversation with him yesterday I think he's something of a James Gunn fanboy. Oh well, no one is perfect.
Not even me. Although I do come pretty close.
That's why my wife is so lucky to have me.
Something else about the new comic book store manager - He's a little on the hefty side. Not grossly overweight, or anything. Just hefty. So I suppose I'll have to be careful about referring to my brother, who's also a customer there, as "the fat one".
I know how sensitive some people can be. Especially younger folk.
I grew up Gen X, with 4 brothers. If I wasn't getting insulted or made fun of on a daily basis, I'd have thought something was wrong.
Anyway....I'm off to do some mapping. Eventually I'll have my third cup of coffee while I wait for the heater to warm up my bathroom. Then it's off to do stuff in the wide world.
Huzzah! I was successful in getting the boy his fleece jacket from “Santa”. I even bought myself one. My own light jacket is very old and has a broken zipper. So I figure this is a good extra.
And we stopped by Kroger on the way home to pick up some stuff. Included in the “stuff” was an Amazon gift card for one niece, and gift cards for that niece and her two siblings (who will receive cash instead).
And that might just be all my Christmas shopping done.
Minus the cash for my other niece and my nephew, of course. I’ll probably get that on my way home from work tomorrow.
The temperature was a good bit warmer this morning. And the kids are out of school, so that meant I didn't have to wait around to get them up. Which also meant I could get ahead of even more traffic.
Well, what little traffic there is this week.
And my drive in was glorious. Including the final u-turn, which was nearly flawless in its timing.
I don't expect work to be very busy today. At least not for me. Some other dude I don't know started talking to me in the kitchen, saying they have two bids the client wants done by the 1st of January. That's pretty crazy.
I did have at least one email with a task, but it's an easy one. Just review some valves being offered by different vendors and give my assessment.
I know at least one other coworker is going to be in the office. He told me so on Friday. Which is good, because I left a Christmas present on his desk. A nice bottle of mead.
Just for the fun of it, I watched Krull last night. Such a great movie, but these days I realized just how many plot holes there are. As well as how much background information is just missing. That setting had so much potential....
I had a Facebook memory from a year ago about watching Gremlins. So now I know what movie I'll be watching tonight.
The letter and check I sent to New Mexico for my PE license should be getting close to delivery now. I paid to have it there by at least today.
Then again, we are talking about the USPS here. If anyone government appendage would deliberately and brazenly steal from a taxpayer, it's those a-holes.
Forgot to mention….
The big boss of our group sent an email last Friday giving us all the day off on Christmas Eve. Of course, that was AFTER I had already been approved for PTO and put in my timesheet for that day.

And I was correct - the USPS, in all their incompetent glory, will not deliver my letter until the day AFTER Christmas. Three days AFTER the day I paid them for.

Not much going on here today, as expected. I really should have just taken the day off.

My coworker Josh finally showed up. So I was able to give him his Christmas present - a bottle of mead.
Coincidentally, he also had a gift for me - a 2025 calendar called Poopin Pooches. As you may have gathered, each month has a picturesque scene of a dog pooping.

And since he’s currently the only manager here from our group, and there’s not much going on, he said we could go home at lunch. I brought my lunch with me today, so I might just hang around and eat it here. Then go home.
Or….I could just stay here until my usual time to depart for home. We’ll see.
If I stay, I’d be struggling to keep myself from being bored. If I leave, I’d have plenty to do at home, but I’d have to hang out with my children. They’re both fighting either allergies or mild colds.
I was just thinking, however. There’s a store called Fat Ogre right around the corner from my office. They’ve got a lot of game stuff, and my brother had recently gotten into Warhammer 40,000. I could get him something for the game. Although I don’t recall what kind of army he has….
Just re-checking the tracking on my letter and fee to New Mexico. The office is in Santa Fe, and my parcel arrived at the post offices in Santa Fe around 7:30 this morning. Yet it’s not currently scheduled to be delivered until Thursday.
Gee, glad it’s nothing important or time sensitive. That lovely government union incompetence at work.
Hey, though. At least they work hard at something. Even if that something is “How incompetent and financially irresponsible can we be?”.
Our weekly team meeting is technically still occurring, but only because the boss forgot to cancel it. In reality, we’re not having it because only three or four people would be there.
I think I’m just going to eat my lunch here in the office, then go home.
Especially since I’m planning to make at least one or two stops on the way home.
One of those stops may be to GameStop. I’m debating that one.
Santa is apparently bringing my daughter an IPad for Christmas, with some preloaded software for art stuff. That’s a pretty nice gift from the jolly, old fatman.
The boy, on the other hand, is so far getting a fleece jacket from the creepy home invader. Decidedly less dollar value on that one. So something else may be called for.
So, maybe GameStop. Although he doesn’t do much gaming on either of the PlayStations or the Switch anymore….
I don’t know what else I’d get him.
Well, there go my plans for a Happy Christmas.
The boy had been feeling a bit ill, which we first thought might be allergies. He got a worse, however. Instead of taking him to the doctor on Saturday as I suggested, my wife just threw some medicine at him. And instead of staying in his room and resting, the boy wandered around the house, spreading his germs.
So last night, I start feeling more poorly than usual. Pretty sure whatever he's got has me in its vile clutches now.
At least my wife has finally been motivated to bring the boy to the doctor. Depending on what they say, I may end up going myself. Unless it's just some seasonal virus.
And we were going to go over to my brother's house tomorrow. Very little chance of that happening now.
And I have to go now. I just found out my brother is in the hospital.
So….my brother is still in the hospital, but is out of immediate danger. He had a scare. A very bad one. The kind he might not have walked away from if he hadn’t gone to the ER.
And my son has the flu. Since I’m feeling blah, I’m here at the clinic to get checked up and maybe tested as well.
All in all, it’s not going to be a “Merry” Christmas, but it could have been a lot worse.
One thing a family emergency is good for, I suppose. Today was the first day in forever I spoke with my three older brothers. I should probably make an effort to change that, but to be honest, it probably wouldn’t do any good.
