I've already been up for over an hour and a half. I tried to go back to sleep after my initial activities, but that did not work out too well.
At least I didn't wake up to dog poop all over the place.
I was contemplating events this morning, and find it deeply disturbing just how many people are okay to enthusiastic with cold-blooded murder. I'm not usually one for religion, but maybe we do need a bit more of it in this country.
Or....I can just let other people worry about the pathetic state of their own souls, and keep my own conscience clear.
Or clear-ish, at least.
Enough about that morbid crap. I should talk....mummies!
I may have already mentioned it, but the other day I was watching a video where they talked about The Mummy from 1999. The one with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Great movie. And I didn't own it.
That error has since been rectified. I ordered my 4K copy Thursday from Amazon on Thursday. It arrived yesterday. I watched it last night.
Again, great movie.
My only sorrow was I couldn't get the boy interested in watching it.
It's probably going to be a usual weekend for me. There could be a trip out to REI to get the boy a few under-the-tree gifts. If so, I'll likely save that for tomorrow.
I did get a text last night from my younger brother asking what my kids want for Christmas. It was late when I saw it, and the wife had already gone to bed. I told him I'd check with her in the morning.
I do at least think I have some stuff they could get Charlie. A few cheap camping options. My baby girl...art stuff works, but there might be something else my wife knows about.
Of course, now I have to return the favor (so to speak) and ask what his kids want. As long as it's something that can be bought in a store, and not rely on Amazon, we should be good to go. The closer we get to Christmas day, the less likely Amazon is to deliver Christmas gifts on time.
Anyway. I'm done with my first cup of coffee. And breakfast. Now I'll maybe do a little map work while I wait to get my second cup.
I love how some noobs try to be Liz. Then fail miserably because they're not Liz, and can never be Liz because they aren't cool enough.
Despite that Liz probably hates me these days.
1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's okay. Lots of people probably hate me these days. I just follow the Martin Riggs philosophy: "Hate 'em back. It works for me."
Except I rarely hate anyone. "Hold in contempt" or "Dismiss them as inconsequential" would be more apt descriptions.
Damn, I just realized. Am I glad I didn't include The Mummy on my list of gift ideas for me. That could have been awkward.
That's why I keep a list.
I should probably start doing that for my comic back issue collecting. There have been a handful of occasions where I've bought a second copy of a comic book.
Speaking of the comic book store. We'll have a lot to talk about when I go there today. If nothing else, that Superman trailer has generated a lot of conversation.
Hell, a Youtube show I was watching the other day had them talking about it for an hour and half. Granted, in that time they occasionally segued into other, closely related topics. The overall direction of the conversation, however, was in the Superman direction.
Before I forget, my whole reason for going to the office yesterday was to get that check for the New Mexico PE board. The one the chick had a typo on the day before. So I got it.
I hung around the office until about 11 am, then left for home. On the way, I stopped at a UPS store to send the letter and check. I was hoping to actually UPS it overnight, but since it was going to a PO box, they had to use the USPS. So I paid extra to (hopefully) get it there no later than the day after Christmas.
As long as the envelope arrives at their office by the 31st of December, I should be good. This is the USPS we're talking about, however. So them completely being incompetent and not making the early delivery I paid for would be completely in character.
It's why I'd love to see the entire organization either completely privatized or disbanded. And, yes. I know some people will claim it's already private, but as long as Congress has a say over it's operations and continues to funnel taxpayer money into it, I consider it a government appendage.
An appendage that would be best amputated and left to wither and die.
Anyway, after I left the UPS store, I stopped at Popeyes and picked up some food for lunch. Arrived home and ate it.
All that was accomplished within the lunch hour. So I still was on time getting back online here at home.
Okay. NOW it's time to move on to more fun things.
‘Tis a bright, sun shiny day. Still a bit cold, though. Maybe in the 50s.
My visit to the comic book store was bountiful. And I got to discuss the new Superman trailer with the people. Except for one dude. I always ignore him when he’s there. He’s creepy.
And not in a good way.
I did have to watch my language while I was there. Way too many young humans.
I’m munching on some Pringles, and the dog is looking at me like I’m committing some grave sin. I think it’s because I won’t share with her.
My daughter is watching some new-fangled, animated fantasy series. You know the kind of modern crap that’s not even a pale shadow of the classic fantasy from decades past.
Anyway, they had a character talking about weapons being built that would never be used. My daughter asked no one in particular why you would build weapons you weren’t going to use.
I told her to remind me to one day explain the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction.
I will say, as stupid as this show she’s watching appears to be, the animation is pretty solid.
Seriously, whoever writes this show should be tarred and feathered. Then we get nasty.
Oohh….time for afternoon coffee.
Ugh. I’m going to have to kick my baby girl off the TV soon. The shows she’s watching are getting on my nerves.
The debate would then be….what do I watch tonight? One of my own movies? Or maybe surf through the streaming channels until I find something?

So what did you wind up choosing last night?
I just finished the latest episode of Cobra Kai (and I raved about the current season in the Cobra Kai thread). Netflix is the only streaming service I'm subscribed to. In fact, it's the only streaming service I've EVER subscribed to.
But I remember - since this thread is about rambling, after all - the last time I wanted to watch something without having a particular show or movie in mind. All I knew was that I wanted a comedy, so I Googled up some lists of the funniest shows on Netflix. I found some shows I had already seen - like Cobra Kai and The Good Place. But when looking at the shows that I HADN'T seen, there was only one whose very description made it sound funny, and that was Santa Clarita Diet. Well, at that time, I wasn't yet into zombie stories, and I thought that I might find the show too weird or disturbing to be funny. I tried to get into Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt instead. I watched the first episode and started the second... and it just wasn't funny. Clearly, I had to give Santa Clarita Diet a chance. And as I watched that first episode, I didn't think I was liking it. But by the end of that episode... hoo boy! The end of that first episode - and I mean the very last LINE of the dialog - revealed what the whole show was really about. I mean... wow! I couldn't even laugh, because I was so surprised as I began to understand what this show was. Just like Buffy the Vampire Slayer used monsters and magic as thinly veiled metaphors for school and other horrors of teenage life, Santa Clarita Diet used a zombie as a satiric portrayal of the trials of marriage and family life.
I went on to watch that show three times. I've never watched any other long-running video series in its entirety that many times.
'Twas not a bright, sunshiny day when I got up, but it has since become so. Still a bit cold though.
Granted, it was 5 am when I got up.

I did some surfing, saw nothing that truly piqued my interest, then put on a movie from my collection - The Dark Crystal.
Tonight, I may watch Krull.
At some point between now and Wednesday, I'll watch Gremlins. If I have The Nightmare Before Christmas in my collection, I'll watch that as well.
Sadly, I do not own Die Hard, which is probably one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time. Let those who say otherwise be the first devoured in the Zombiepocalypse.
Not much on the menu for today. I'm going to try and run over to REI with the boy and buy him a few Christmas gifts from "Santa". His gift from his mother and I will be Minecraft on the computer, something he's been asking for a good while now.
Of course, first we'd have to get a new computer. I don't think this one could handle it.
That works for me as well, however. My Campaign Cartographer software has been running slowly, and some of the maps I've been working on cause it to freeze up. I'm hoping a new computer will solve that issue.
Otherwise, I may have to go back to the old standby of hiding some layers while I'm working on others.
The wife is going to make beef stew (with carrots and potatoes) for dinner tonight. I've got to remember to encourage her to put more of the veggies. I've been cutting down on my red meat and pork intake. Far more successfully than I once thought would be possible.
Now if only I could cut back on my salt and junk food intake.....
And maybe increase my intake of fruits and veggies. More, I should say. I have kind of increased that.
Then all I need to do is regularly exercise and I can....probably be in just as poor health as before. Because the Universe dislikes me.
