Tonight I'll pick another movie out of my collection. Might be Train to Buson, so the boy can watch it.
Later today, after my usual run to the grocery store and comic book store, the boy and I will go over to the church to help with their Fall Festival.
The church sponsors his scout troop, so the troop always tries to help out with things like this. It's usually kind of fun. We run the games.
And there should be beautiful weather. Maybe a tad bit warm (in the 80s).
Every morning I check FB for old memories (the main reason I still use it). A lot of them these days are of the boy and girl as much smaller humans. Makes me a bit wistful.
Father Time can be a cruel S.O.B.
Woot! I managed to get a pork butt that was just under 5 lbs. I had to ask at the counter, but it was worth it. Now we'll have some pork for dinner tomorrow, a bit left over for the red beans, and a bit more left over for the wife during the week.
Personally, I'm trying to cut back on beef and pork.
Mostly a good day yesterday. After the usual stuff, the boy and I went over to the church for their Fall Festival. The set up this year had us all working (or sitting, in the case of the adults) in the shade, which was a nice change of pace from previous years.
So while the scouts handled the games, I sat conversing with two of the scout moms. One around my age, the other a bit younger. It was fun for the older mom and myself to bring up people or things the younger mom wouldn't be familiar with.
Then we had grilled chicken for dinner. Mmmmm....
Followed that up playing too much D4. I stopped early enough to wind down with a few episodes of Batman the Animated Series.
Talking with my boss the other day, I realized he was not even 40 yet (39 to be precise). Rings of Perversion had come up, which made me realize I've been a fan of Tolkien's work longer than my boss has been alive.
That can probably be said of me about several things and many people. Including some around these digital parts.
Especially little turds who think they know better than me.
I've got a lot to do today as well. More clothes to wash. I'm about to get started smoking a pork butt and some maple bacon. I've got to divvy up the awards for the scout troop's upcoming Court of Honor.
And I might have to work on the script for the CoH, since the jackass who is our short term scoutmaster promised one of the less reliable scouts would work on it for a merit badge, but I haven't seen jack or squat.
Hopefully, somewhere in all that I'll get a chance to read. Maybe even play a little more D4.
And, later tonight, new episode of The Penguin!!! WOOT!
The kids are back in school from the teachers' fall break, so I was back to my later departure time. Which meant more traffic and more stupid people. Some very stupid people this morning.
But it looks like it'll be a bright, sunshiny day. So there's that.
Not sure if my supervisor is going to be back in the office today. I hope so, because certain things are starting to pile up.
But my designer who was on vacation all last week will be back. Which is good because I've got some redesigns on a project he needs to take care of as soon as possible.
And it's going to be a busy week even outside of work. At least until late Tuesday evening, which is when the troop's Court of Honor is scheduled. Once that's over with, I can relax a bit.
I spent a good portion of yesterday getting the awards ready for that. Had to separate them out for the various ranks and scouts. Today and tomorrow I have to focus on food preparations.
Happy Tuesday!
So far, anyway. The dog and kids were pretty cooperative. Had a good ride in to work. And the weather is pleasant.
We'll see how the rest of the day goes. It's going to be a long one.
I've got what should be a pretty good day ahead of me at work, plus the troop's Court of Honor tonight.
Speaking of the Court of Honor....
I've got to remember to call the pizza place when it opens and order the food for the meeting tonight. Should be 15 large pizzas - 7 cheese, 8 pepperoni.
And speaking further of scouting....
Now I've got another Eagle Board of Review for Wednesday evening. I don't think I know this scout. He hasn't been around much since I've been there. From what little I do know, I'm not impressed.
And speaking of work....
The young lady who helps us with our licensing and other legal shenanigans let slip to me the other day the reason they were pushing me so hard to get registered in other states. It's because the company needs to renew its license in those states, and they need an active PE in each state to act as the Supervising Professional.
So...guess what position I have now for the company in Louisiana? It would have been nice if they told me ahead of time.
I wonder if that will come with some extra money?
Knowing these cheap bastards, probably not.
Anyway, just a few more posts, then I've got some purge and pack volumes to work on a bit more.
Well, it's Wednesday. And despite a fairly easy drive in to work, I don't see it as being a good day.
There's some stuff going on here at work, partly my fault, that could cause more trouble for me. It sucks, but the only thing I can do now is try to fix the situation in such a way that I keep my job.
I mean, it's nothing too horrible. Just some delays in delivering paperwork, and delays in responding to the client. It's partly my fault because I didn't ask the right questions to the right people and passed on some bad information about the status of some documents.
In my defense, my supervisor decided to throw me under the bus by dragging me into something I hadn't been involved in, giving me absolutely zero guidance, and being typically incommunicado.
The boss of my group doesn't care about that, however. He expects me to be the lead mechanical engineer while refusing to make me the lead mechanical engineer.
I'd nearly forgotten how sucktastic corporate life can be.
On the positive side, the Court of Honor went off without a hitch last night.
Anyway, time to finish up my morning posts and try to fix this mess that's partly of my own making.
Well, yesterday turned out not as bad as I expected it to be. The big boss stayed out of my way. My own supervisor got his head out of his ass long enough to help me temporarily fix the situation. And I found out the whole thing was started by someone else's screw up.
So...today is when I was told to promise the client they'd get what they are looking for. So we'll see if the people I work with let me down or not.
I won't hold my breath.
The funny thing is these are just some as-built documents. There's really no need to make all this fuss about them. It's just one little idiot document controller raising the fuss. Not sure who peed in her rice krispies.
Otherwise, work yesterday went pretty well. I got some stuff done. I learned a new use for the snip tool. And I even got to go for a walk.
And my drive in was really awesome this morning.
The only bummer thing was my wife doing her wine snoring this morning. It doesn't always wake me up, but it will prevent me from going back to sleep if something else wakes me up (like having to go to the bathroom).
So I ended up laying on the sofa around 3 am this morning. That was...fun.
And I did another Eagle Board of Review yesterday evening. The young man passed and earned his rank. So I'm happy for him. He was a bit quiet and introverted during the review. And the funny thing was he told us how scouting has helped him be more open and LESS introverted.
I'd have hated to see him before scouting.
He did a really cool thing for his Eagle Project. He had labels made for storm drains, warning that they lead to a big body of water and not to through trash and such in them. He then organized placing these decals on about 400 storm drains.
My Halloween viewing last night was 30 Days of Night. Such a great vampire movie. And it got me thinking about a new map.
Today should be a rather uneventful day. The only big thing I know of here at work is getting those drawings to that pain in the ass little turd of a document controller. Not much beyond that, but we'll see if anything else comes up.
Don't think I have anywhere to go this evening. That'll be nice. Maybe I can work on some maps. Then I can figure out what Halloween movie to watch.
