Somewhere in all that, I’ll wash several loads of clothes.
Got the boy his first cell phone. Best part? Because we were adding another line, there were two models of phone we could get for free. So we picked a Samsung.
It’s been a long time since he’s told us he loves us so often.
Today was another busy morning. Up early as usual. Played. Little D4. Then showered.
First up was getting the boy a haircut. Then it was a trip to Walmart to get various school supplies, some new school clothes, new backpacks, etc.
Now I’m back home with the girl for lunch (and to get started on more clothes washing). The wife ran over to Kroger and CVS.
At some point today, I’ve got to do some scout related stuff.
Speaking of backpacks though, I’ve always been of the mind to keep a backpack until I wore it out. Something that would take a few years typically. These days, we’re lucky if the crap they sell lasts a year.
Started the kids back on School Schedule last night. In bed at 8:00 pm. Woke them up this morning at 6:20.
My daughter, as expected, was cranky. My boy just rolls with it.
Two more days and the kidlets are back in school. I love our schools (so far).
The elementary school (where the girl still is) has always been pretty top notch, and both kids have done well there.
The boy’s middle school is….decent. There are some problems with little a-hole kids starting fights or causing other trouble, but nothing too serious so far. And academically the boy’s been doing great. And there’s plenty of extracurricular activities.
I’m just glad they’re going to school here in Texas. I can only imagine the nightmare it might have been if we’d stayed in Philly. Or gone back to Louisiana.
According to our Monday morning meeting here in the office, this week is supposed to be busy. I guess that’s good. At least it will hopefully make the days go by quicker.
Doctor: I’m going to write you a prescription for medicine X. Even if it doesn’t fix you, it should help.
Insurance Company: We’re rejecting this prescription for medicine X because you haven’t tried medicine Y.
Doctor: Okay. I’ll write you a prescription for medicine Y.
Insurance Company: We’re rejecting this prescription for medicine Y.
Damned healthcare system. It just keeps going downhill. Has been for the last dozen years or so. I think the descent has accelerated over the last 3 to 4 years, though.
Saturday we took the boy to get a cell phone. The young lady asked the wife and I if we needed new phones. I said no because mine was still working well for me. I did try to get a new case, since the old one did its job too well. However, they didn’t have any that would fit my phone.
And so, of course, yesterday I drop the phone and put a big old crack right across the screen.
Ah, Fate. You cruel and fickle b$&@h.
Hey, though! Maybe now I can get one of those phones that unfolds into a bigger screen. It might go well with my decreased eyesight and less coordinated hands.
Couldn’t sleep this morning, so before everyone else got up I spent an hour or so playing D4.
In other news, it’s the first day of school. One kidlet is already out the door and on the way to school. The other is getting ready to go wait for the bus.
God blessed Texas
With His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven, brother, here's you chance
I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas.
Kids had a good first day of school. Let’s see if that Carrie’s over.
And I’m getting bifocals. Need something for long distance and up close. Used to just be up close.
Happy Friday!
May your day be full of joy!*
*does not apply to people I don’t like
Sometimes it’s fun to see how long the wasps will stay agitated after you poke their nest.
I was assured there’s a P9 spec, but I ain’t seeing it!
AAAAAARRRRGGGHHH!
Apparently no one likes the new electrical engineer. It’s not his engineering skills annoying people, but his attitude and work ethic (or lack thereof).
Personally, I’m indifferent to him. He’s not yet done anything to get on my bad side.
Happy Saturday!
I had steak last night! So far, it hasn’t destroyed me!
I swear I’m going to try and do some actual house type work today.
Right after my coffee and some Diablo 4.
I at least know one bit of housework to do - laundry!!!
And maybe clean that damnable stovetop.
And maybe replace the flush valve in my half-bath toilet.
Also have to get the kids to clean off the dinner table. Since it’s mostly their crap polluting it.
My oldest nephew starts college tomorrow. At the University of Southern Mississippi. Same place I went. So, naturally, I informed my fraternity to be on the lookout for him. Not sure if he’s interested in joining a fraternity, but if he is, as a legacy he’ll get an automatic bid from them.
I scheduled a cleaning day at home yesterday. We got as much as I’d hoped to done, but not as much as I wanted. The wife took ill from a bad Kroger salad, and was in bed most of the day.
Still, the kidlets did well, without too much complaining.
Today is brother #2’s birthday. I think he’s 57.
I narrowly avoided interstate traffic this morning. To be honest, the only reason I usually jump on is to avoid a single light. The main was back up horrifically though, so I jumped back on the feeder. Wasn’t too bad, and I only got to work about 3-5 minutes later than usual.
Busy morning. And I had forgotten my glasses at home, but my loving wife brought them to me.
BEST WIFE EVER!!!
I’m the advancement chair for the boy’s scout troop. Last night we had a committee meeting where we narrowly avoided voting a scout out. He’s the ringleader for most of the trouble that occurs, and at summer camp this year he and his cronies almost set a tent on fire.
I think he’s got one more chance, then he’s gone. As much as I see scouting as a way to help kids like him, I wouldn’t mind seeing him gone. I get the impression even if someone were seriously hurt by his antics, he wouldn’t show much remorse.
On the other hand, I also accepted another role with the committee - coordinator of all things Merit Badge.
At least I think I did.
TGIW.
But only because it means I don’t have to be out the door and on my way to the office. Work from Home Wednesday is pretty damned convenient.
And it’s like the Universe is having some small amount of sympathy for me. It’s letting me feel slightly closer to normal on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is my day to feel like dog poop.
As long as I feel slightly functional by this afternoon. I’ve got a dentist appointment.
Went to my dentist appointment yesterday. Got one cavity taken care of, and the temp crown put on. He didn’t want to do the other one, however, because my blood pressure read lower than usual, and he was worried about giving me too much sedation.
So he’ll save that one for when I go back to get my permanent crown put on.
Otherwise, it’s been a busy morning.
Talking to a coworker and the guy in the cubicle next door had a post-it-note on his monitor. At the top it said “MXP Nipples” but I thought it read “Mr. Nipples”.
And now the dude has a new nickname…..
Happy Friday?
Not yet. More of a mixed bag.
Not sure if this weekend will be any better. We’re starting popcorn sales for the scout troop, and I’ve signed up the boy for 2 sessions this weekend.
At least my Saturday visit to the comic book store shouldn’t nearly as expensive as last weekend.
I thought about trying to join some of my coworkers going to lunch today.
Stoopid GI problems.
Also…..
HUZZAH? My new glasses are ready.
Long day. I was at work about an hour longer than I should have been.
We had a drawing package going out, and there was a typo on the material description for small bore valves. They all said “NPT” instead of “NPS” for the size.
I missed it at first because the Bill of Materials we pull from the same drawings had all the correct material descriptions. My supervisor asked me to do one last sanity check and I noticed it then.
It was easily fixed, but since we were down one designer, and had other (civil) stuff to fix at the last minute, it took awhile.
Ugh!
Crappy night, followed by a so far unpleasant morning. And here I was, for a fraction of a second, thinking my health had at least stopped deteriorating. Kind of reached a stable point.
Silly me.
