A few minutes ago, my wife was talking about a news story where a monkey got spooked in a Spirit Halloween store. She wondered what the monkey was doing in the store in the first place, and commented on how weird the whole thing was.
So I read her a selection of the headlines of articles I’ve linked in the Weird News Thread.

AND....
That weird dude I wrote about yesterday morning? The one who tried to get me to let him in the building. I sent an email to the safety boss, and he tried teams calling me yesterday. That didn't work for technical reasons, but he said he'd connect with me today.
How much do you want to bet he's going to b#$!# at me for coming into the office so early? And he'll "suggest" I don't do it. Which, of course, means if I kept to my routine I'd probably get in trouble. All for some "safety" reasons. Which would be corporate speak for "we're covering our ass and forcing you to conform or give us a reason to get rid of you".
If that happens, it'll definitely mean I'd think twice before ever reporting anything safety related ever again.

Incidentally, the reason I get here so early is mostly one of simple convenience and routine. For years I'd been getting up early, getting ready, then waiting around to get the kids up. These days, I only have to wake the boy up, and he conveniently needs to get up at 5:30, which is around when I'm typically done getting ready for the day. So, then I just leave, instead of sitting around on my ass twiddling my thumbs.

Anyway....
So busy day ahead. And a busy day yesterday.
Wednesday, we had pipe stress analysis and a review of some hot tap fittings. Hot taps are when they cut into a line that's operating, in order to install new pipe. It can be challenging. And dangerous.
Today, I've got more pipe stress analysis and drawing package review. Hopefully, the pipe stress won't take me nearly as long as the one yesterday.

Last night I watched the awesomely creepy Ghost Story. It's from 1981, with Fred Astaire, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Melvin Douglas, John Houseman, and a very often naked Alice Krige.
I've heard it deviates heavily from the source material, which would bother me more if I'd ever read the book. Taking it on its own, however, the movie is very entertaining.

Anyway. I do at least have a few work related items on my plate. I've done pipe stress analysis on two different sites this week. And though I've already given the civil engineer what he needs - the restraint summary reports - I've got to do the full report for each.
We might not ever do anything with them. Still, we tend to develop a full report just in case the client asks for one at some point.

Work-wise, I almost had an emergency job. Turns out, my boss was overreacting a bit, without full knowledge of the particulars.
I did have a call from the mechanical designer though. He had to redesign the hot tap on the Pig Receiver site we're designing. Which means I'll have to redo the pipe stress analysis once he gets me a new pcf file. I actually don't expect the results to change all that much, so it shouldn't affect us moving forward. We still need to do the analysis though.

Anyway, even though I only finished work about an hour ago, I didn’t let it stop me from giving out candy. We had a good many kids earlier, but it’s kind of dying out now.
I blame the many losers in my area who don’t give out candy. There’s only a few houses in my general vicinity that really go all out.
The rest?!? Losers!

I was listening to my phone YouTube music mix earlier. A little Blackpink and other K-pop groups (I blame Korean language shows and very creepy algorithms). Some young girls saw the screen, and asked me if I was in fact listening to Blackpink.
Thereafter followed a brief conversation in which we discussed All of Us Are Dead (TV show) and I gave them recommendations on some other shows and movies.
It was odd.
