The boy did pretty well in two days of popcorn selling for the Scouts. He did especially well on the second day, by himself - $155 in sales in just 35 minutes.
Sadly, the third day had to be cancelled, as the troop ran out of popcorn to sell (more on the way).
In the meantime, I shared a link with all my FB friends.l, so they can order themselves if they so desire. I expect one or two hits, mostly from family.
There’s also supposed to be some way to print out door hangers with a link or something. Haven’t figured that out on the app yet.

I just saw that Queen Elizabeth II passed away. I was very sorry to hear that, as I found her to be an impressive leader. Normally, I might start a Rest In Peace thread, but last time I did that with someone connected to UK politics it was quickly trolled into oblivion.
So I’ll settle for putting it here, where it’s less likely to be seen.
Rest In Peace.

I also bought the new 5E Spelljammer box set. I was on the fence about buying it, until I heard someone complained about content in it, and the company caved and said they’d change it. I figured if they’re going to change future prints, maybe original prints would be worth something one day.
Never can tell.

AAAAARRRGGGGHH!!!
I’m sadly finished with The Last Kingdom. Now the only new things I have to watch are House of the Dragon (not sure how many more episodes) and Primal (only one episode to go, I think).
And it’s only mid-September, which means not a lot of new things dropping on the various streaming services.

Busy day so far. Up at my usual times, doing some computer work. Then I had to bring my daughter to her art class, come home, get the dishes washing, and make a grocery list. Once the boy and I picked his sister up, we made it over to the grocery store, then back home for lunch.
In another 20 minutes or so, we’ll go up to Lowe’s for the boy’s one hour shift selling popcorn for the scouts.
After that, I’ll probably have to put a load of clothes in the wash.

Ugh!
Came across something that has, thankfully, been a rarity since I moved away from Philly - a cyclehole. They’re the kind of a-hole bicycle riders who think they own the road, and that what they’re doing makes them better than you. Very similar to golfholes. Also to a few people who post hereabouts.
They were everywhere in Philly, but are mercifully few in Houston (at least my part). I think I’ve only ever seen a (small) group of them two or three times in the 9 years I’ve been here.

I walked with the boy around the neighborhood this morning, so he could put flyers for his popcorn selling on doors. As we approached one house, a police car suddenly pulled up. We’d only been doing this a few minutes, so I was certain they weren’t there for us. Turns out, they knocked on the door of a house we were just passing, where a friend of the boy from school lives. Another officer showed up as well. They were talking to the wife/mom.
I told the boy it was none of our business, and forbade him from asking his friend about it. I did, however, let him know that if his friend offered up any discussion, he should be a good friend and politely listen.

I had forgotten to mention how proud I am of my boy. He’s been selling popcorn as part of a fundraiser with his Scouts BSA troop. When we first started selling, he set a goal for himself of $2000 in sales. He passed that mark this past weekend. And we’ve got two more selling shifts coming this Sunday.
It was amazing to see how he changed over the course of doing this. His sales pitch evolved as he became more experienced, as did his confidence to just talk to adults he doesn’t know.

Confidence and seeing hard work pay off will help him in life more then anything else, good for you both!

The boy did his last day of popcorn selling for the scouts yesterday. Ended up with total sales around $2300. He’ll get back around 30% of that (around $700) with the rest going to the larger program. He’ll also get a cut of the cash donations the troop received as well, which I’m hoping will be another $100 or so.
All that money will go into his scout account, so he can pay for camping trips and the like.

Sweet! The boy wanted to go to a Halloween event at his school tonight, mostly so he could enter a raffle. While we were wandering around, I caught the whiff of popcorn. We followed the smell to the school’s little concession stand, and they had bags of awesome, super salty, popcorn. The kind you get from an old movie theater style machine.
It reminded me of the halcyon days of my youth, about when I was the boy’s age. My school had a popcorn machine like that, and we could buy bags for a quarter. Good times.
