The kids had a fun Halloween with their cousins (except for when my baby girl kept bumping into mailboxes because of her mask). We went to my brother subdivision because my own sucks balls when it comes to supporting the glory that is Halloween. It's really quite pathetic.
I hope many of the neighborhood kids are angry at their parents because the guy who typically gives away tons of candy went elsewhere this year.

Colder and wet. Blah.
In other news, I'm trying to steer my son away from camping with a particular scout troop. The location they'll be camping at is....kind of shady. It's a park area not too far away, right off a major highway, with development all around. Rumor is, last time a scout troop camped out in this location, they woke up to find some (not scout) people rummaging through their campsite.

Holy Dog S%! I am f~+&ing tired.
Took the boy on his last camp out as a Cub Scout this weekend. On Friday, we drove 90+ miles up to Lake Somerville State Park. The overnight temps were in the 40s, so unpleasant. Couple that with my bad back and shoulders, and I’ve had about 6 hours of sleep since Friday morning. Today we drove back.
So, like I said….f##%ing tired.

Today is seven years since my father passed away. I do still miss him. He was a good man. I cannot help but think that, if he were still alive and with all his mental faculties, his guidance would have helped me get my own life back on track.
That's neither here nor there, however. If there are two things I've learned over the years, it's that (a)The Universe is an unfair place, and (b) most people are self-interested a@@*+%&s, who only care about you if you are useful to them.

It has occurred to me that (in real life) I need to start presenting the outward appearance of being more positive and content (if not downright happy). This comes after briefly contemplating that my daughter's own penchant for a drama queen style negative attitude probably has something to do with my own penchant for treating the world as it truly is, and living my life accordingly.

Ye gods!
Up since around 5 am. Had some of the scouts over for a few hours to work on their AoL requirements. Then a quick lunch before heading to the grocery store.
Finally have a bit of time to sit and relax.
At least, until I get around to washing clothes, unloading the dish washer, re-loading the dishwasher…..

I was telling the boy he’s still two or three years too young (only 10) to be ready for Stephen King.
That got me thinking of best vampire novels (spoiler alert - the only two truly worthy are Dracula and Salem’s Lot), which in turn got me thinking of best vampire movies.
My top five (so, basically, the best ones ever) would be:
Dracula (Bella Lugosi)
Horror of Dracula (Christopher Lee)
Lost Boys
30 Days of Night
Fright Night (the original, not that crap remake)

I agree with this completely, though I haven't seen the last two movies you mentioned so I'll have to go looking for them.
Salem's Lot is an amazing book, one of my favorites!
Have you seen the 3 episode miniseries on Netflix about Dracula? It has it's moments.

According to The Book of the Face, 12 years ago I had an offensive post removed from these boards. I’d forgotten all about it until now.
To this day, I have no idea what the post said, or why it was offensive. It is a mystery that will haunt me forever.
Stoopid Facebook. Why’d you have to remind me of that.

Last week, when my boy was looking for something new to read, he mentioned the Percy Jackson books. I bought him the first book in the series to see if he'd like it. He did, and this morning he told me he wanted the rest.
While I was out at my local comic book store, I popped into Half-Priced books next door and picked up the other books in the series. Once he's done with those, I understand there are other, related books.

Ha. Mine is burned into my consciousness, and I still don't trust the person who deleted it (and yes I know who it is and he isn't at Paizo anymore.)

The boy and I went camping with a Scouts BSA troop this weekend. He’s somewhat certain this is the troop he wants to cross over to.
Anyway, the troop had three giant flags to retire, which involves burning. Since we were at a local reserve/park, and there are apartments bordering the area, they kind of spotted the black smoke from the flag burning and kind of freaked out.
And called 911.
So we got a visit from the fire department. It was all good, however, once they saw we had everything in hand.
Still, it’ll make a good story for the kids to tell.

There was a Book of the Face memory today, from 8 year ago. It consisted of some words about how, just a year prior, I had been working for the Navy, but was now in Houston doing oil and gas work.
In hindsight, not my best move.
I'd have been better off staying in the dead-end, government parasite job. At least it would have been something.

My mother is coming to Houston for the holidays. She'll stay part of the time with my younger brother, and part of the time with me. The kids are very excited at the prospect of seeing Granny in person, which hasn't happened in a few years (for reasons).
Normally, I'd be worried how the dog (who doesn't like strangers) might react to my mom, but considering my mom will be accompanied by her own small dog (a Shiver-Rage), I'm a little more worried how that will go down.
