Of course, it could also be the Universe trying to lull me into a false sense of security.

I'd best be wary today.

The kids had a fun Halloween with their cousins (except for when my baby girl kept bumping into mailboxes because of her mask). We went to my brother subdivision because my own sucks balls when it comes to supporting the glory that is Halloween. It's really quite pathetic.

I hope many of the neighborhood kids are angry at their parents because the guy who typically gives away tons of candy went elsewhere this year.

Scarab Sages

Colder and wet. Blah.

In other news, I'm trying to steer my son away from camping with a particular scout troop. The location they'll be camping at is....kind of shady. It's a park area not too far away, right off a major highway, with development all around. Rumor is, last time a scout troop camped out in this location, they woke up to find some (not scout) people rummaging through their campsite.

The morning radio program on the classic rock station played a snippet from a new song by The Scorpions. It kicked ass.

In other news, apparently Abba is releasing their first new album in 40 years or so.

Scarab Sages

Damn! I was just sorely tempted to break out my old Mighty Mouse alias in the entertainment section.

I like cheese.

Scarab Sages

Wow! I was looking at my profile page and saw sometime in the recent past I surpassed 60K posts.

Kind of helps confirm I don’t have much of a life.

Scarab Sages

For several years now, I’ve largely sequestered myself on these boards, rarely interacting with others as much as I used to. There are days when I’m reminded that was a good idea.

Why do children have to grow so damned fast?

Specifically, why do my children have to grow so damned fast?

And people wonder why I like getting their clothing at Walmart. Because it's f+#!ing cheap, and those little s&*#s will more than likely outgrow it well before it wears out.

Scarab Sages

F#~~ing Universe.

Scarab Sages

Holy Dog S!~$! I am f##&ing tired.

Took the boy on his last camp out as a Cub Scout this weekend. On Friday, we drove 90+ miles up to Lake Somerville State Park. The overnight temps were in the 40s, so unpleasant. Couple that with my bad back and shoulders, and I’ve had about 6 hours of sleep since Friday morning. Today we drove back.

So, like I said….f@$~ing tired.

Scarab Sages

Still, the camp out was a big success, with lots of fun all around.

Scarab Sages

Oh, and I got a potentially new scar out of it all. Slipped while tending the fire and burned my wrist on the metal of the fire pit. We’ll see if it fades or not.

Damn! And I thought I had problems with anger.

Scarab Sages

Then again, I prefer to think of myself as not so much angry, but merely very cranky.

Scarab Sages

One of my former co-workers, the only one whom I still (very) occasionally communicate with, had a birthday yesterday. So I sent him the usual "Another Year Closer to Death" happy birthday wishes.

Scarab Sages

Today is seven years since my father passed away. I do still miss him. He was a good man. I cannot help but think that, if he were still alive and with all his mental faculties, his guidance would have helped me get my own life back on track.

That's neither here nor there, however. If there are two things I've learned over the years, it's that (a)The Universe is an unfair place, and (b) most people are self-interested a%%@%#~s, who only care about you if you are useful to them.

Scarab Sages

It has occurred to me that (in real life) I need to start presenting the outward appearance of being more positive and content (if not downright happy). This comes after briefly contemplating that my daughter's own penchant for a drama queen style negative attitude probably has something to do with my own penchant for treating the world as it truly is, and living my life accordingly.

I think my faithful Keurig is finally ready to s+*% the bed. Its performance has been increasingly erratic. Sad to say, might be time for a new one.

Luckily, I needed to go to the store to pick up a few things for the kidneys, so I also took the opportunity to get my new Keurig. And I’ve already had a cup of coffee brewed by it.

Mmmm…..coffee.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods!

Up since around 5 am. Had some of the scouts over for a few hours to work on their AoL requirements. Then a quick lunch before heading to the grocery store.

Finally have a bit of time to sit and relax.

At least, until I get around to washing clothes, unloading the dish washer, re-loading the dishwasher…..

Looking at a FB memory of my boy and I from 8 years ago. Damn! He was so tiny at one point.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
A beautiful day in this neighborhood.
Could you be mine?
Would you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?

Please note, I do not actually want you to be my neighbor. I’ve already got enough that I don’t like.

Scarab Sages

I’m not sure why, but this is the third day in a row I’m having some after-dinner coffee.

Scarab Sages

I find myself…..torn.

On the one hand, if the current round of grar ultimately causes the company to collapse, I’ll most likely laugh my ass off.

On the other hand, without these message boards, I’d have one less way to relieve my boredom. That would suck big, hairy goat testicles.

Scarab Sages

On the third hand, I’m pretty sure the dog is conspiring against me.

Scarab Sages

Well, f@$&! I’ve heard they’re going to go all f/$&ing cuss-police on us.

Scarab Sages

Luckily, being the father of two young children, I’m very good at Cuss Code Words.

Fudge!
Son of a Biscuit!

Scarab Sages

HAIR!!!!

HAIR EVERYWHERE!!!!

Stoopid shedding dog!

Scarab Sages

SON OF A BISCUIT!!!!

I was telling the boy he’s still two or three years too young (only 10) to be ready for Stephen King.

That got me thinking of best vampire novels (spoiler alert - the only two truly worthy are Dracula and Salem’s Lot), which in turn got me thinking of best vampire movies.

My top five (so, basically, the best ones ever) would be:

Dracula (Bella Lugosi)
Horror of Dracula (Christopher Lee)
Lost Boys
30 Days of Night
Fright Night (the original, not that crap remake)

Scarab Sages

Hopefully, with the future remake of Salem’s Lot I’ve heard might be coming, that list will change.

I agree with this completely, though I haven't seen the last two movies you mentioned so I'll have to go looking for them.

Salem's Lot is an amazing book, one of my favorites!

Have you seen the 3 episode miniseries on Netflix about Dracula? It has it's moments.

According to The Book of the Face, 12 years ago I had an offensive post removed from these boards. I’d forgotten all about it until now.

To this day, I have no idea what the post said, or why it was offensive. It is a mystery that will haunt me forever.

Stoopid Facebook. Why’d you have to remind me of that.

Scarab Sages

Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!

Scarab Sages

Took the dog out to potty last night before bed. As I sat down in the chair to let her do her business, I saw movement in the grass.

It was a snake. Very tiny. Maybe a baby. So, now I’ll have to keep an eye out.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of the dog….

….it has now become clear we cannot leave pretzels unattended in her presence.

Scarab Sages

It sucks that my shoulders don’t work as well as they used to. I’m constantly having to find makeshift back scratchers.

“It’s not the years. It’s the mileage.”

Scarab Sages

‘Tis me favorite time of the month - fresh Red Beans and Rice Day! Huzzah!!!

Scarab Sages

I saw that Universal is making a Renfield movie - with Nick Cage as Dracula. Pretty sure that might be a sign of the Apocalypse.

Scarab Sages

Last week, when my boy was looking for something new to read, he mentioned the Percy Jackson books. I bought him the first book in the series to see if he'd like it. He did, and this morning he told me he wanted the rest.

While I was out at my local comic book store, I popped into Half-Priced books next door and picked up the other books in the series. Once he's done with those, I understand there are other, related books.

Ha. Mine is burned into my consciousness, and I still don't trust the person who deleted it (and yes I know who it is and he isn't at Paizo anymore.)

Scarab Sages

The boy and I went camping with a Scouts BSA troop this weekend. He’s somewhat certain this is the troop he wants to cross over to.

Anyway, the troop had three giant flags to retire, which involves burning. Since we were at a local reserve/park, and there are apartments bordering the area, they kind of spotted the black smoke from the flag burning and kind of freaked out.

And called 911.

So we got a visit from the fire department. It was all good, however, once they saw we had everything in hand.

Still, it’ll make a good story for the kids to tell.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid federal jury duty.

1. Agree -- good future story-telling value.
2. Ugh

Scarab Sages

There was a Book of the Face memory today, from 8 year ago. It consisted of some words about how, just a year prior, I had been working for the Navy, but was now in Houston doing oil and gas work.

In hindsight, not my best move.

I'd have been better off staying in the dead-end, government parasite job. At least it would have been something.

Scarab Sages

My baby girl is 8 year old today. It's hard to believe. Seems like just yesterday I was watching the nurses clean her up.

Scarab Sages

Despite the pain in my shoulder, yesterday was a pretty good day for us.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah for my term of federal jury duty being over!!! And, once again, I was never chosen to sit on a jury! My winning streak continues.

Scarab Sages

My mother is coming to Houston for the holidays. She'll stay part of the time with my younger brother, and part of the time with me. The kids are very excited at the prospect of seeing Granny in person, which hasn't happened in a few years (for reasons).

Normally, I'd be worried how the dog (who doesn't like strangers) might react to my mom, but considering my mom will be accompanied by her own small dog (a Shiver-Rage), I'm a little more worried how that will go down.
