Celebrate Valentine's Day with Pathfinder NPC Core!

Tuesday, February 4, 2025

Next month we’re releasing Pathfinder NPC Core! This upcoming tome comes with over 250 stat blocks for all sorts of marvelous characters to add to your games. In addition to whole towns full of human NPCs of varying flavors, the book also includes guidance for changing the ancestries of any of these NPCs to suit your campaign. Plus, alongside all of the NPCs of non-human ancestries breathing vigor into your gameplay, like a tumbleweed leshy courier and an iruxi masked mummer, Pathfinder NPC Core also comes with fun extras like goblin songs, allowing GMs and players alike to expand the characters in their adventures with ease. Pathfinder NPC Core comes in three versions: the standard hardcover, the FLGS and paizo.com exclusive sketch cover, and the Special Edition faux-leatherette! Pathfinder NPC Core will be available on March 5th, and you can pre-order your copy today!

To celebrate the addition of so many wonderful NPCs to our world, we’ve made a collection of character-themed NPC valentines for you to share with your friends, loved ones, and potential partners!

This is the worst author credit I've ever been given and I apologize for none of my actions.

These are horridly adorable in all the best ways! If you can attract someone with puns, then you know they have a sense of humor [even if it may drive you nutty!].

Oof.

These really run the gamut from cute to cringe to either "I don't get it" or "doesn't make sense without additional context" and I'm not sure which.

Can someone explain the Tengu? The words make me infer something about playing cards or gambling, but nothing in the character design says that to me.

The The Incredibles reference felt the same way. Is that character notably similar to Syndrome? I'm not familiar.

Mr.23 & >6' gets a cringe pass because the designed leaned into it with the fish picture. Funny.

Orc together strong is a surprising reference.

To not be too dour, I quite liked the investigator, the earth kineticists, and the plague doctor.

But boy the weak opening with the Kholo (I think)
and the other two I mentioned first really took the wind out of the sails for how much I might have enjoyed these.

That is a specific NPC in Strength of Thousands and probably lands better if you have met her, because that is absolutely the correct tone for the character.

She (and her familiar) are pretty popular in my game.

Was not expecting to wake up to a Valentine's post using Pathfinder NPCs including a reference to The Incredibles, but sometimes you just have a good day I guess.

What in the world is that plant creature on page three, in between the regency noblewoman and the Yakuza looking guy?

I'm pretty sure that's a Ghoran from Lost Omens Impossible Lands.

Either that or a Cultivation Spren from the Cognitive Realm. Oh, wait, wrong universe. Not sorry.

Hmm, maybe a Khizar from Starfinder: Pact worlds, maybe just a vine leshy.

I cannot WAIT to hand these out (with candy) to the organized play group at my FLGS next week. Absolutely impeccable!

Looks a lot like a khizar. They're from Castrovel but I think they've only appeared in Starfinder so far. Wouldn't be that surprising if some were living in Kyonin though.

Horizon Hunters

These are all meant to be from NPC Core, and the blog post introduction text mentions a "tumbleweed leshy", so maybe... (they're tumbleweed leshy).

Ah! That makes sense. That's what I get for skimming the intro!

The secondary caster one had me. Great job on these.

Good to have some free Valentiney art-filled stuff (courtesy of Pathfinder NPC Core for PF2e+) out there, Paizo. ;)

For those of you who play PF2.5, I hope it's as good for you as NPC Codex was for PFRPG. NPC Codex was, IMO, the best book Paizo put together and I always wished they'd done more.
