Fun and effective character concepts

Advice

Liberty's Edge

I am starting up a module and want to create a few pregen characters for those that don't want to build up a character from scratch. The adventure starts are level 9 and a few people that don't like the tedium of character generation.

I am look for some basic ideas on characters that I can build up around. I appreciate any help I can get! I have not had a lot of luck making fun concepts effective as well.

For clarification, things I see as not quite so fun are fully optimized stat dumped characters with no real personality

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

As most of the forumgoers will tell you, you can have both fully optimized characters AND real personality. It's true.

Personality is the spark you give the character. It can't be copied, at least not perfectly.

The crunch? That you can copy, and that the boards can provide you. Check out the Guide to the Builds, or RavingDork's character emporium.

Of course, it's hard to guess what you consider fun, and even harder to guess what your players will consider fun. You haven't even told us what module it's for.

Two-Weapon warrior (Fighter Archetype) that uses unarmed strikes and ONLY kicks. Dip in MoMS or some other monk for quick unamred stuff. Now for the semi-optimization. Don't crank up dex to the max. You don't need the full two weapon fighting line to really gain the benefits of Equal opportunity and Double Strike. Use Style feats to get lot's of attacks of opportunity or just dragon style to shore up the power attack/Strength and a half loss.

Now This character can only use his legs for a number of reasons. Main reason(As exhibited in many things I've seen) is that hands are for creating and not destroying. Give him a craft skill of some sort or a profession of some sort.

Edit: How about a pseudo- Vow of chains so his hands are cuffed and he refuses to remove them (Ala Regal from Tales of Symphonia)

Chaotic fighter, that reminds me of the dual nature of nethys.

Whazzat?

Thanks! Will check that out

CG barbarian with cha 15, arcane/eldrich heritage (abyssal) dreaming of becomming a paladin but can't fight the chaotic blood...

Melee sorc, focus on touch spells...

Warpriest Gnome with a Battle Ladder. Strength Domain is great for CMB builds.

Honestly if you're not using Sacred Weapon to fight with something stupid you are sorely missing out

But Warpriest's don't get domains.

A halfling fighter, wield an earthbreaker or Lucerne hammer with the Glamered enchantment so it appears as a broom. Take the Childlike feat and pretend to be a child, at all times. Naturally when it comes time to hit the tavern or Callistrian temple, you act your age, but at all other times, pose as a harmless pauper child. Then whack them with a power attack vital strike from your broom and annihilate them with your fighter goodies. Be a fighter who plays like a rogue. When you can afford it, get your heavy armour glammered to look like a fancy butler outfit and insist everyone uses proper etiquette, if they don't...

Liberty's Edge

A halfling Paladin/Summoner who rides his eidolon.

Silver Crusade

The Crossing Guard - Reposition and Reach weapons.
Gastrologist - Focus on Breath weapons, Sonic, Acid, Fog and Cloud effects.
Thriller - Dirge Bard + Crossblood(Serpentine/Undeath) Sorcerer 1
Greyskull - Barbarian/Mobile Fighter with a big sword and a penchant for fur bikinis. Remember to describe the musculature as "thews".
Trauma Kit - Defiler Magus, but use Dirty Trick not Trip
Dr. Migraine - Knife Master Sap adept Rogue who focuses on doing as much non-lethal damage as possible in one hit.
Pandora - Summoner with focus on...summoning...named the Eidolon Hope, which should be the most hideous concoction you can devise. There's a reason it was left in the bottom of the box...
Speed Racer - Charge based with a very fast mount
Glam Rocker - Hair Hex Magus, Shocking grasps...
Baptist Preacher - Paladin/Gunslinger
Who Needs a Hug? - A very affectionate Tetori Monk.
Mysterious Kill Stealing Bastard - Inquisitor/Gunslinger
A Good Colonic - Dazzling Display, Enforcer, Thug, Shatter Defenses, etc..

I was picturing a young girl running up to monsters and yelling "puppy!"

Crushing the life out of them in a hilarious manner.

Woops, meant the Strength blessing. You get Strength Surge, only you don't need to be rage cycling to use it effectively. Warpriest is probably the best trip class at the moment.

But "when she makes a sneak attack with a dagger, kerambit, kukri, punching daggers, starknife, or swordbreaker dagger, she uses d8s to roll sneak attack damage instead of d6s. For sneak attacks with all other weapons, she uses d4s instead of d6s." So wouldn't being a knife master make her so less damage with saps?

I meant Scout Sap Master. Guess I should proof read.

I'm not exactly certain what you want: rules-based character concepts, or origin stories? For me, those happen sort of independently. Or maybe I put together a combinations of feats and abilities, and a role playing concept emerges.

How about a oversized crossbow-wielding goblin alchemist? He'll have Rapid Reload, Crossbow Mastery, and Explosive Missile. I'm naming mine Godfrey Gloop. He decided learn how to read and join human society in order to meet the greatest human that ever lived: Larry Walters, the Lawnchair Balloon Guy (Hey! TAKE your hat off man! Somebody said "Lary Walters!").

I recently posted a bull rush build under the thread "Bull Rush Build." He uses Thunder and Fang: (earthbreaker and klar). Since he'll be taking a levels in Inquisitor, the earthbreaker will be mithril, and I'll call him Father Maxwell MacKenzie. Bang, Bang Maxwell's silver hammer on all the lonely people, where DO they all come from?

I have a build for a Tiefling melee fighter/monk that uses Feral Combat Training for her claws, is a MOMS so she can wear armor, gets multiple attacks though Snake Fang. She also takes 2 levels in Ranger and takes Improved Natural Attack. She's going to be named after Lee Ann Hester, who recently won a Silver Star in Afghanistan.

A character modeled after Jose Mendoza Lopez would have to be a Gunslinger, I think.

A Halfling sorceress or oracle modeled after (Granny) Nanny of the Maroons?

How about a straightforward fighter with Furious Focus, Great Cleave, and Great Sunder? I envisioned a little anime girl with a sword bigger than she was, maybe a catgirl. Her sword is enchanted like a Maul of the Titans, and she calls it Dowry or sometimes Homewrecker. It had belonged to her grandmother who was exactly 60 years older than she was, making them both Fire Horse women.

How about a halberdier Highland Scot with some sort of Trip and Brace build?
