The "Wayne Reynolds" treatment....

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I love Wayne Reynolds art, and often find myself wishing he would do a rendition of this or that character/monster....

If you could pick one creature or character from Golarion to see rendered by Mr Reynolds....what would it be ?

Mine would be an Uniila (AKA Cabal Devil).

Yours ???

I want to see him draw each race as each of the classes. This includes some of the monster races, like full orcs, gnolls, goblins, kobolds, lizardmen, etc. If not him, then some of Paizo's other artists they commission. I want to see a gnoll paladin, gnome barbarian, elf fighter, dwarf sorcerer, half-orc rogue, etc.

If I could draw, I would do it myself. I look all over deviantart and google image search, and all I ever see is the stereotypes (half-orc barbarian, halfling rogue, elf archer, dwarf fighter, etc). It makes it hard looking for an image for my characters (like my kitsune barbarian that I was able to utilize, but I had to settle for the image of a kellid barbarian as it was impossible to find a kitsune in hybrid form as anything but a rogue) or my half-orc paladin. It's even difficult finding an image of a half-orc druid.

But to be slightly more on-topic: I want to see a fully armored gnoll, not a gnoll in a loincloth with a tattered shirt.

The Kolyarut drawn by Wayne Reynolds for the 3.5 MM is part of why I love that monster.

His art has been the reason I have enjoyed many creatures I probably wouldn't have looked twice at otherwise ;)

I wanna see him do for orcs what he did for goblins!

I would rather not have him ruin orcs. I seriously do not like the look the Pathfinder goblins have. And their hobgoblins and bugbears are horrible as well.

But, that's just me.

Actually, I believe he has done Orcs. I seem to recall a couple of his Panoramic spreads for Eberron had Orcs in them rather prominently. Of course, this might not be what you are looking given that D&D and Pathfinder Orcs do have some visual dissimilarities.

Wayne Reynolds Orcs

I could write a novel's worth of praises for Wayne Reynold's art, and still wouldn't be able to find enough words to express my adoration.

Him and Todd Lockwood really helped to define the look of 3rd edition with monster art, and I think it's a real shame that neither is doing much monster art for Pathfinder.

I love his art, both in 3rd edition, and what he's done in Pathfinder. I think he has done some 4th edition art, too. Him and Steve Prescott were my favorite artists from 3rd edition, and I really wish Paizo would get some of his art. But I just do not like the pathfinder version of goblins/hobgoblins/bugbears. Though I believe those are due to Paizo and not so much Mr Reynolds. His art of the goblins is nice, but I just don't like the look of them.

So glad they didn't get Wayne England to do any art, same with Dennis Crabapple

He did the orks on Ultimate campaign, and they look good.

Also I think the change to bugbears and Hobgoblins is a golarion change, not artist licence, as in "WotC did Brown hobgoblins and bugbears, we need something darker, and theres nothing darker then black!".

This guy is one of my artistic role models.

It would be cool to see a Waine reynolds depiction of a wizarly duel, as they each try to ravage each other the arcane energies twist and roil in an ocean of colors between them. A grand swirl of crazy things manifesting in the energies as they mix together, dragons heads, leaping salmon and spiderlegs might be some of the highlights in the chaos. One wizard would stand at the far left of a wide (desktop resolution) canvas, perhaps standing atop a tower, with the other wizard neatly on the other side of the picture on a mountainside or perhaps just flying somehow, no steed.

And yes, they need to get him to do more monster art. Some of his works are quite old now (by some standards) and i´ve seen re-depictions by other artists of monsters he´s done years ago and they sure lack that oompf Wayne is so good at bestowing his creations. Some of those critters had their own charm mind you but I like Waine´s agressive looks.

I actually like what they did with Goblins...in fact the Paizo goblins are the only ones I have ever used.

Bugbears and Hobgoblins....REALLY need some work IMO.

But then...I hate the WOW style Orcs as well, and prefer something more like the LOTR Orcs. WR version of Orcs works fine for me :)

My mother often told me: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything."
I feel bad every time I say something unkind so I feel bad a lot. I am happy to not see more WR art. I've never been attracted to a PF product based on WR cover art - in fact it's something of a turnoff. There is just something about it that rubs me the wrong way. Fortunately, most of the interior art of the various books are by people who imo are far more talented.

This isn't to say I dislike everything. A lot of the designs are good, it's just the exceution that doesn't work.

I like Wayne Reynolds art, but I agree with Adjule - the pathfinder goblins, and even more so the bugbears, aren't my taste at all. The hobgoblins are okay I think, though. I don't know how much say WR had in the design of the goblins though. I just don't like pathfinder goblins at all, they're a bit too much comic relief.
