One of my players wanted me to pass on to Richard Pett her admiration for his creativity when it comes to treasure:

"Richard Pett’s adventures have always been very fun and scary and exciting, but the most enjoyable part for me is the vivid and creative descriptions of pieces of treasure that we find. Some of my favorites include:

-A rhinoceros horn drinking vessel depicting herons in flight (Jade Regent)
-An iron bracelet with silver filigree work depicting a moon eating an owl (Carrion Crown)
-A huge gilt-edge tureen depicting a dragon turtle set with a trio of diamonds (Shattered Star)
-A silver alter set with lotus flower decorations in a leather traveling case consisting of a candle stand, flower vase, and incense burner each depicting a crane standing on a turtle’s back (Jade Regent)
-Mummified hands with needles thrust through them which are actually fancy hatpins ending in tiny rubies (Carrion Crown)
-A magnificent mithral tray depicting a murder of crows around a dead tree featuring tiny little flakes of jet for the crow’s eyes (Shattered Star)

And so many instances of treasures inside treasures like;

-A glass jar containing a two-headed owlbear fetus that clutches a stone of good luck in one beak and a stone of weight in the other (Shattered Star)
-A small cork box containing a rolled-up scroll of heal tucked into a ring of protection +4 that doesn’t work for evil creatures and turns their finger a nasty shade of green (Shattered Star)

These treasures are so much fun that my PCs often end up keeping them rather than selling them. Who wouldn’t want to drink out of a massive silver tankard etched with rams attacking stirges?

Thank you for making our gaming more fun, Richard Pett!"

There you have it. I can't wait for his chapter of The Mummy's Mask and all of the amazing Egyptian-esque treasures he'll come up with.

Paizo's farm of authors all have individual strengths. One of Pett's foremost talents is evocative descriptions. This is one of the reasons he's one of my long-term favorites. If it says Pett, I'll buy it.

I am so eagerly looking forward to finally getting to Sound of a Thousand Screams.

On the other hand, I'll be playerside for The Skinsaw Murders.....

Do check out Pett's wonderful "Your Whispering Homonculus", by kobold press. Lots of Pett awesomeness, I use it my home game on a regular basis!

I'm gonna jump on the "Let's Praise Pett Party" here. Besides the crunch-tastic treasure he writes (I still remember some of the ones from 'Serpents of Scuttlecove'), he creates some of the most interesting opportunities I've seen in modules for role-playing experiences, whether its piloting 'remote-controlled- Cockatrice' (Prince of Redhand), performing an Asmodean play in Westcrown (Six-Fold Trial), defending a Golem in court (Trial of the Beast), or exploring a classic Haunted House (Skinsaw Murders) its always unique and memorable. All the authors here have had shining moments within the APs and modules, and I don't mean disrespect by not singling anyone else out (I want more Brandon Hodge, Greg Vaughn, and Jason Nelson!), its just that Pett has had so many that are so diverse and completely unique. I am playing in Kingmaker, and am terrified that he wrote the last module.

Pett is one of my favorite authors too -- his adventures and writing are so incredibly creative.

For those of you interested in checking out his "Your Whispering Homunculus" articles at the Kobold Press website, you can find pretty much all of them at this link. He's particular outdone himself with his Feb. 21 article about 100 strange pets.

Owlferret, anyone? :D

If you like Rich's work, I recommend you check out his novel released last Fall- it has everything I like about Rich's writing, but amped up a 100%. The book is called Crooked.

Pett is awesome. Your Whispering Homunculus has done wonders for the atmosphere of my weekly game.

I've made my Fanboy status known for Greg Vaughan around these boards, but I would like to add Pett to this list as a VERY CLOSE second.

And Jim, your stuff also is guaranteed to be a good read. Thank you for what you've done!

If I had to rank AP Authors, my top Five would be:
1. Vaughan
2A. Pett
2B. Groves
2C. Neil Spicer
2D. Tim Hitchcock
3. Mike Shel
4. James Jacobs
5. James Sutter

Well, goodness, you step away from these boards even momentarily at your peril:)

I'm deeply flattered by all your kind words, and do love working on twisting things a little, I'm glad you like them. It would be remiss of me not to mention the wonderful Mr Jacobs who I was very lucky enough to meet not so long ago and who was every bit as charming as I'd hoped - James does wonderful things with my words.

We're all lucky too as you mention in having an awesome crop of new writers coming through thanks to Paizo - times are good:)

I hope you're enjoying Locusts, I was very honoured to be asked to bring in such a tricky adventure, those stat blocks gave me some sweaty moments so hopefully they're OK, and finding challenges for 20th level characters with 10 mythic levels was a challenge. I hope it lives long in the memory, and hope those of you who are about to embark on thousand screams will forgive me. Shifting Sands is very much back to roleplay at its heaviest and most uncomfortable, so I trust you'll all find it very squirmy and enjoyable.

I hope also you'll keep an eye out for 2 things from Frog God Games in the next 12 months that I'm more or less concluding now - a city state called the Blight, and a 9-part adventure path called Levee to go with it. Levee is a hefty mix of sticky roleplay and is a full-on entirely urban adventure, and the Blight is very much like another slimy place I once wrote about called the Styes a long time ago. I hope you can support both these products as they'll be kickstarted and your help will be greatly appreciated. Plus any success annoys Vaughan which is always a good thing.

Now to slither away and ramp up the twisted treasure chart, thank you everyone for taking the time to post, you've repaid my vileness and the nasty places I've put you in with great kindness, I'll try to repay it ten fold.

Mnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnaaar and Huzzah!

Well you've piqued my interest Mr. Pett. Looking forward to more goodness from the Frog God.

It's a big book! I'm hoping we get a sequel at some point. I encourage anyone who's a fan of Rich's adventures to check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Also, my players just ran into some Jezurein cultists with a map to a certain tomb...
