I took a arrow to the knee .. ok not really

After a million and 2 paladin falls threads I decided to help people out these are just somethings I've seen a paladin fall for:

Someone sneezed and he didn't say 'deity' bless you

Mind control

Forgot to clean up his room before adventuring

And bard with a whip trip...

Stairs

And flat surfaces

If anyone else has anything that has made a paladib fall comment below

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS MAN

Roll-playing a fighter with smite and expecting actions not to have consequences.

Not clarifying in advance with the GM what your code requires, when adhering to a stated code is a prerequisite for your class abilities.

...

Will think up a few more and return.

A GM being dumb.

Forgot one fell because he forgot to tie his shoes ... alright I'm done joking around.... for now

One fell by slipping on a puddle in a department store. They got a settlement and decided to retire.

Have you ever seen a paladin fall . . . in love?

Elaborate, please.

"All Paladins fall, unless they play, the right way. My way."

Something along that whole badwrongfun line, I guess.

Sovereign Court

When I was younger and more immature, my Paladin had a habit of hitting on female NPCs.

That is, until one day when he encountered a lady of the evening in a plague-infested city. Out of character, I stated "Well, my character has the gold to spare, and he is immune to disease."

He lost his powers. And contracted the disease.

(Got an atonement afterwards, and I think a Remove Disease spell, but it was still pretty funny. Oh, the memories of Living Greyhawk; I even think that was a Jason Bulmahn adventure)

Blackbloodtroll actually got it right, more or less. If you're legitimately complaining about paladins falling, odds are you're probably engaging in badwrongfun. But hey, go nuts.

Uh... Why?

I used to be a paladin like you until i saw the blackguard in the 3.5 dm guide and decided to disembowel the entire population of a small thorpe to become one.

Grand Lodge

I miss the Blackguard.

Scarab Sages

I used to be a paladin, but then my party members attacked me for being one.

I intentionally had a paladin fall once. The DM had set up a let the villain escape or let the hostage die situation. I killed the hostage, and then killed the bad guy. I rped that I felt the hostage was doomed no mater what and a quick death was a mercy. I was only second level, so I just let ex paladin levels sit there, moved to a LN Judge Dredd outlook on life and leveled up as a sorcerer into dragon disciple.

THAT is falling with style. I approve wholeheartedly.

One of my favorite characters to game with was a paladin named Androval (Fighter Paladin) arranged his own fall.

He had the whole party snowed. Eventually made a pact with a demon, acquired some fiendish grafts. Kept adventuring with the party, thanks to an amulet of undetectable alignment and a hat of disguise.

His sister was another paladin (Cleric Paladin) who had no idea, or if she did know, refused to believe it.

Eventually they faced off in a titanic clash. There was a gate that was going to let a Demon Prince/Archdevil into the world, and she was going to close it. (Needed to channel a bunch of positive energy into the gate to close it, and would have taken both of them to do it.) "I can't let you do that, Torea. I have a bargain to uphold."

It nearly shattered her spirit right then and there, and if she had fallen (Androval's goal) it would have meant the end of the heroes, and ushering in an evil campaign.

As it stood, the archfiend still manifested into the world, and in the ensuing chaos, he fled, and she was forced to retreat.

(Eventually their conflict was resolved, the archfiend banished, and remains one of my favorite campaigns.)

Very Respectfully,
--Bacon

It is markedly hard to remain standing with an arrow in one's knee, so I think this qualifies.

Posted in a Paladin thread, which is known to be an Evil act.

Scarab Sages

Why was the Paladin made a scapegoat? ...Someone had to take the fall.

Why did the Paladin lose his powers after arguing with his deity? ...They had a falling out.

A Paladin walks into a bar. ...He falls.

There sure are an awful lot of paladin threads on this subforum nowadays, aren't there?...

Kobold Cleaver wrote:

That time of the month.

Next up is rogues or monks.

Paladins always comes up after fighter thread.

Fighter threads comes up after the monk and rogue threads.

and so on and so on.

Sometimes the devs will do something that breaks up the cycle, but eventually everything will settle and the next round will begin.

It is known.

What about player entitlement/GM jerkitude? Or is that a wild card?

Scarab Sages

There's a few paladin threads here right now that refer to GM Jerkitude and/or Player Entitlement, actually. I was shocked by one GM's posts in one.

Awhile ago on GitP there was this long-running forum joke that each day of the weak had a specific argument associated with it.
Initially, it was really just one day: Monday=Monkday. But eventually it got fleshed out to other days (Tuesnamerday, Sat-tier-day, etc).
Of course, people who started monk threads normally didn't pay attention to the day, leading to accusations of "Monkday came early!"

But here, there's also the More Playable Races vs Fewer Playable Races threads...
and the Real Roleplayers vs Fake Roleplayers in which both sides claim to be the Real Roleplayers...

Ah, but doing something just because it's cool is dishonest, causing the paladin to Fall!

How is it dishonest if I admit it?

2 paladins in my game fell for killing my innocent, unarmed, mostly helpless rogue after she surrendered and was handcuffed... The only reason I can think of for them to kill my character was when she confiscated the alchemist's fire after one of them drank it. They were trying to enter the Blackguard prestige class, apparently.

NoncompliAut wrote:

Did she have a warrant?

SHE'S OUT OF HER JURISDICTION
THEFT
SHE FALLS

Oh, wait, she's not a paladin, she's a--
...
ROGUE
SHE FALLS

I love Paris in the springtime... and paladins in the fall.

Scarab Sages

How did the wizard beat the paladin in a debate?

...

He found a logical FALLacy.

Everyone knows rolling up a paladin is enough to make you fall.

Grand Lodge

Saw a Paladin summon an Ice Devil in the middle of a crowd of townspeople. We referred to him as an ex-paladin for the rest of that adventure.

Sovereign Court

Home PF game. The Paladin was seduced by a vampire and then turned. Became the big bad of the campaign. Ended up killing three PCs.

Actually, since no one will stop feeding the trolls that come here as first time posters and start a thread about paladins and goblin babies, this is what we should do- post silly stuff. make it clear we know what he is doing and derail the endless & ridiculous debate about morality into sillyness...without getting our hands slapped for out & out calling the OP a troll. The boards have been infested by "pala-trolls" recently. Since some people can't resist feeding them, we need to change the diet to spun sugar instead of meat.

Who is with me? Let's get silly!

Scarab Sages

Hm... Well, folks? Who wants to...

*Sunglasses*

...FALLow Deth's advice?

Spoiler:
In seriousness, I approach every post initially as if it's a serious question / not a troll, except when I don't. Forgive my awfully vague post here; I'm just trying to keep all my options, both silly and serious, open.

In this thread, yes.

Shadow Lodge

My paladin fell because he took 20 to search a door for traps, then opened the un-trapped door and stepped forward... into the 70 foot pit trap.

Your paladin actually fell before that. Because there are no paladins, only anti-paladins.

Well and those broladins...those folks are just weird. Taking the divine bond thing a bit too far.

Scarab Sages

Forsooth! Thou hath no respect for man's brotherhood with man! THIS PANSY SHALL BE BROSMITTEN!

Fear not, my brothers! Those who fall shall never be brogotten!

In a recent game I was DMing, I bull rushed a paladin into a wall with and elder earth elemental. He fell via death, does that count?

Liberty's Edge

What's a paladin's favorite TV show? Fall-ty Towers!

Why do paladins make bad farmers? Because they always let their fields lie fall-ow!

What's a paladin's favorite game? Fall-ow the leader!

Who's a paladin's favorite comedian? Jimmy Fall-on!

Hmm. Character idea: Paladin (or cleric, or inquisitor) that summons demons or other such creatures in an attempt to convert them to the side of light.

Dying is cowardice and emboldens the forces of darkness. Paladin falls.
