When making a Kitsune PC for PFS, do you use the version in Dragon Empires Gazetteer or Advanced Race Guide? I would think ARG would trump the earlier source.

Either is fine, as they are both in the additional resources list. Use the one you own.

I should also clarify that you need a chronicle sheet giving access to the race, but I get the impression you may have one already.
I do. I am just running into a character generator issue as to which source should take precedence. The ARG version is more generic while the DEG version is Tien-centric.
Thanks.
If I remember right the boon says to use either the ARG or the bestiary that the race is in... not sure if the DEG is valid as a source for for the race
I don't have the boon in front of me just now to confirm, but the issue appears to stem from Additional Resources where kitsune is mentioned for both sources.
One of the boons states both as acceptable sources. If you want a Tien-specific Kitsune, use the DEG, if you want a more generic Kitsune, use the ARG.
I hadn't realized there was a difference mechanically.

I'll have to look when I get home.
ARG, Bestiary 4, Dragon Empires Gazetteer and Primer are the 4 sources that I know of.
Two items that are different:
1) DEG mentions Kitsune Feats found in the Dragon Empires Primer. These probably would be available for all Kitsune.
2) DEG and ARG have different starting languages and bonus languages.
My Kitsune boon says that "You may play a kitsune character (Advanced Race Guide 192 or Dragon Empires Gazetteer 9), beginning at level 1 as normal. Other than access to this additional race, all character creation rules are the same as those outlined in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play...."
There is no mention of any bestiary. Hope that clears it up a bit.

ARG Kitsune get Common and Sylvan.
DEG Kitsune get Tien and Senzar (plus the free Common for PFS play).
We know that SOME Kitsune hail from Tian Xia.
Further details are unkown untill Blood of the Fox comes out. Please vote for it in the provided link. :D

My Kitsune grew up in Oppara, and speaks Tien with the absolute worst Taldan accent.

DEG Kitsune get Tien and Senzar (plus the free Common for PFS play). Got a link for Common being a freebie? My Kitsune spent one of his extra languages getting Common, either from a 12+ Int or a point of Linguistics....

Thanks. Guess I will fix him then, and get another language.
At least he is still only 3rd level...
I had a player asking if the Kitsune in one book was an errata of the other, and if he had the boon and one sourcebook, could he use the stats from the other sourcebook? Answer: No. This is an option, not an errata.
If you have both sourcebooks, you have a choice at character creation, though if you only have one sourcebook but not the other, then that's the culture your Kitsune was born into, and that defines your starting language.
You only gain access to the features from books you own.
I have most of the books. Not quite as long a list in my downloads as a VC, probably, but I have a good selection of PDFs and ePubs in there...
I used the ARG version and set my Kitsune as a "refugee" in Cheliax. As for the rest of the story... that's a story for another time.
For hero lab users, the "Dragon Empires Native" alternate racial trait will switch your starting languages to the DEG ones. You will however need to add Common back in manually as an adjustment for PFS.

Where do you get the kitsune boon? I have a player who really wants to play one in PFS.
fine_young_misanthrope wrote: Where do you get the kitsune boon? I have a player who really wants to play one in PFS. It was a convention boon in years 2+3, and I believe included on the convention GM boon for those years as well. I'm not sure if it is in the current rotation or not.
I won mine at AnCon last spring in Hudson, OH. Lucky nat 20 roll.
