Just die you sissies. It's ok to be Tak... I mean, it's ok to have a character die.

While I would love this item in real life, I'm rather surprised it made it through the cull.

No guarantees, since I'm not tracking everything like Feros or Garrett, but it's at least possible I've seen it post-cull.
There's one item I won't even read because I dislike the name so much.
Naturally, it survived the cull.

Caution, slight language.
Oh wow, a new item that I really really like.
And it's one that's been referenced in this thread in a somewhat negative way a number of times.
I read that item three times and I still don't know what it wants to do. Can't vote for that, I guess.
So, item, why did you choose to use "harem girl's silks" as your example?
And again...
Jeff Lee wrote: Okay, did not see that item making it through the cull.
Isaac Duplechain wrote: I found the Dresden Files item! Bingo! (It had a bonus "true powers awakened" clause.) Huh. I must have found a different Dresden item, then. Well, if the other one is out there post-cull, there's still hope for my scorecard!

If it's mine, I'm sorry.
Actually not at all sorry. I wish I knew if mine made it through. It was at least correctly formatted. =P
Well, for the purposes of remaining as vague as possible: If I can do what a magic item does by either: a) making a relatively easy skill check or b) doing something in-game that's so easy it doesn't even qualify as a skill, then the item in question isn't exactly "wondrous."
A little spritz of Tilex mildew remover should clear that item right up.
oh man...I hate when I read posts here and link them to my item...only one post was specific enough that I knew...with others it may just be in my head.
I don't think I'll make the top 32, but I can't help but have a sliver of hope.
Oh why did I let my gaming buddy talk me into this???

How do you know when it's time to stop for the day?
I just leaned over to look at my cat, who was wearing a very big-eyed expression, scratched behind his ears and said "Skritch of Comforting"
Also...Who's voting for some of these things?????

Best to think of it this way: If this made it through, I can't imagine what got cut!

Not getting into the Top 32 isn't as bad as you think. I've been doing that for the last six years.
You learn from your mistakes and you get better, if that's what you want. The things people say in here aren't nearly as bad as judges' feedback has been in past years if you ask to see it. "Reject...reject...reject..." isn't exactly comforting, but if you take the time to find out why your item was a reject, then you just might improve.

:p Joking aside for a sec, that's actually a pretty accurate way of looking at it. I've only just got home and made my first 10 post-cull votes. One item that popped up is one that hasn't exactly impressed me, but I remember upvoting a few times because it was up against vastly worse competition. So went back and checked my tally, and sure enough: I'd seen it five times pre-cull, and upvoted it three out of those five because it was at least better than the alternative. (And I adamantly refuse myself the comfort of the 'just as good/bad' button.) So... 60% approval rating just from my (admittedly one-man) sampling.

I'm trying to have fun with the contest. I mean, I would love to make the cut, just like everyone here, but alas, there's just room for 32. I'm looking forward to posting my item after the 32 are announced. I already imagine what some of the feedback will be, but as you said, it will just help me out next year.

I'm looking forward to getting feedback as well. I also have a revised version of my item I thought of maybe four days into the voting period. That, to me, is one of the most incredible parts of this contest. It's my first year entering, and while I'm very happy with how my item turned out as of submission, I've already seen enough to teach me new and exciting things.
I think that by this point, I already have learned what people will say about mine. =P
I'm not looking forward to a critique, but I realize it will be beneficial. Kind of like getting a shower on those days when you wake up late and the shower is only going to make you more late.

I can understand that. Years of having my writing critiqued in university has hardened my heart considerably, but it's always at least a little nerve-wracking to put a piece of yourself out there for critique. It's always worth it, though.

Most of the people who give critiques in the threads post top 32 are pretty good about telling what they liked about the item, and then suggesting ways it could have been improved while nicely pointing out where a designer might have missed how the mechanics of the item mesh with the existing rules system. Reading your own is hard, but remember that everyone involved with this contest wants to do better and wants everyone else to do better too.

Excellent, the board game item I liked made it through the cull intact!
