The Game: RotRLs (anniversary edition) with some changes as listed
The Tools: CRB combo w/GM guide, Bestiary 1 (GM only), RotRL Player Guide (all players), Inner Sea World Guide (GM only), Magnimar City of Monuments (GM only), RotRL anniversary edition (GM only), Pathfinder SRD (misc. stuff, GM only)
The Pacing: GM [me] is using the suggested "level up" points outlined in the anniversary edition. No XP will be given. Items, bonuses, traits, or penalties (Sin Points, etc.) will be given to the PCs if they complete certain non-combat (optional or non-canonical) encounters.
The Difficulty: Minimum difficulty will be the suggested CRs in RotRL. Most encounters will be at least 1-2 CR higher. Players have been told that the main objective is to survive. After Lv3 the "gloves will come off" in terms of difficulty.
The Cast:
Barbarian Lv1 (GM-approved Titan Mauler archetype, Human [Shoanti], CN): An outcast from the Iron Spires Sun tribe, he wanders the world in order to gain enough might to return and lead his people.
Rogue Lv1 (Human [Chelaxian mixed blood], N): A former smuggler and "guest" of the Magnimar prisons, now free. He has decided to make an honest (?) living selling his services to adventuring companies.
Cleric of Desna Lv1 (Human [Varisian], Sandpoint Native, CG): A itinerant cleric of Desna, she has returned to Sandpoint to see the Festival and Temple Dedication, but may get more than she had bargained for.
Ranger Lv1 (Human [Varisian], Turtleback Ferry area native, CG): A wilderness guide and scout, he and his brother seek their missing father in Sandpoint. What they find may spell their doom.
Sorcerer Lv1 (Human [Varisian], Turtleback Ferry area native, CN): A suspicious and troubled man, he sought power in far Kaer Maga, but found only horror, and was forced to flee for his life. He joined his brother's quest to find their father out of convenience, not loyalty.

Burnt Offerings pt1:
PCs start off outside North Gate of Sandpoint, the morning before the Festival, and do not know one another [note: Rogue is already at The White Deer]. This was done to start the adventure at a non-inn location (!), and to allow the group time to explore.
Sandpoint Native (Cleric) has the Sandpoint Town Map, part of the Sandpoint Hinterlands (Surrounding Area) Map, a slice of the Varisian Overland Map, as well as the statblock description of Sandpoint [SP] including important NPCs. She also has Knowledge (Local, Sandpoint).
Rogue has a Magnimar Map, Magnimar statblock description with important NPCs, and access to the same Varisian Overland Map slice as the Cleric.
Ranger and Sorcerer will have The Turtleback Ferry Maps, and a slice of the Varisian Overland Map near that locale. They do not have these items yet [GM note: too distracting and might allow them to wander too much].
Barbarian will have a slice of the Varisian Overland Map for the Iron Peaks and parts of Storval Plateau.
PCs could choose to: stay at The White Deer and expore 2 areas of Sandpoint (morning) and 2 more (afternoon) each, or stay at The Rusty Dragon and explore 2 area (afternoon). All chose The White Deer.
None chose to leave Sandpoint or explore the Hinterlands. I have the Sandpoint Devil and Hinterlands random monster encouter chart all ready to go if they explore...
First session is nearly all RPing after this point [no combat]. Summary to follow!
