Dissolution of the Terms of Alliance - Aeternum and UNC

Two days ago, the leadership of Pax Aeternum moved to dissolve the formal Terms of Alliance with the UnNamed Company.

This dissolution was executed fully within the grounds of the ToA. With the shift in mechanics, Aeternum felt the basic principles of the ToA could not be met and thus required dissolution.

To Aeternum's knowledge, Terms were dissolved amicably and we have explicitly stated that if such a time comes where Terms could again be reached, we would welcome them back at our table.

We wish the UnNamed Company the best of luck in their future endeavors.

All that and not one day in-game. lol

The UnNamed Company agreed to this dissolution on the basis that the settlements of Pax would not be available to provide prioritized, chaotic training needed for our play style.

As a result the UnNamed Company will be entertaining the idea of establishing a Chaotic Neutral based settlement. Details of our settlement plans will be forthcoming in the next few days.

We've been in game for over two years now... since Wednesday, December 7, 2011.

As some have already done so, if you have an interest in discussing future plans for a CN based settlement, just send me a PM.

In light of the ever changing landscape that is the proposed game mechanics of PFO, I'm not willing to go into details of a settlement that may have to alter its goals, multiple times.

I have already made 2 or 3 changes to the UnNamed Company in the last year. With almost another year to go before EE, why waste the time and energy setting things in Jello?

Projected name for CN settlement: "Roanapour"

That is all I'm going to spill the beans on now..... Thanks to the person in TS for making the overall suggestion of not putting too much out there this early.

Goblin Squad Member

Unfortunate that the game mechanics are looking like they won't allow for this alliance. But I guess them's the breaks.

Well, at least we got more targets again.... :-)

As to the whole "not one day in game" comment, Areks is right. While we might not be in a playable version of PFO, the community is very active and things are happening in the meta game for a while now. Limiting activities to only what happens "in-game" is very narrow minded IMHO. Widen your view and see the whole picture and the community, and not just the virtual representation that is being developed currently.

I figured Pax for a CN or NE settlement to start, so I'm rather confused by this development.

I have no knowledge of either groups' internal or intranal communications, so I can only speculate on what other motivations might exist.

Best of luck to everyone in light of rapidly shifting expectations.

Our two proposed settlement alignments have been LE and LN. I don't think we have ever stated otherwise.

Goblin Squad Member

Also there is no need for speculating motivations, we have nothing to hide on that front.

Pax wishes to build towards the future with good as an option for our players. Under the current nation system that leaves us with the option of a chaotic or a lawful focus.

Since Golgotha was aiming Lawful, and Aeternum aiming Lawful, building towards lawful seems right now to be the most reasonable move forward.

That is in conflict with the desires of UNC, so unless the system itself changes later on down the road there is no mutual gains.

At least not for now, but as it was said, the terms of the contract could not be met from Pax's end due to the mechanics.

As to The Goodfellow's comment about our target list being expanded, let me be clear...

Having "Blue" standing with the UNC is based solely on having an active contract with an employer. Pax moving to Neutral "Grey" standing is not a reflection of a change in our personal friendly relationship, it is just business.

As for future contracts, we will not entertain any new contracts until EE. We are just too far out for making such arrangements and the fluidity of the game design features would create new circumstances such as this.

So the short of it is, you're all on notice! We want your sh#t, it belongs to us, unless you can hold it.

"intranal communications" is this when two a-holes talk to each other?

No, that would be inter-anal. Intranal communication is when one person talks to themself.

I'm sorry, Im not finding any such word as "Intranal" and not when coupled as "Intranal Communications".

The only talking I get in my head is the sense I get just before my wife aggros, and I debate whether or not to pretend I don't hear the impending doom or get off the computer before it happens.

Goblin Squad Member

Sorry to hear. I thought Pax was aiming for TN which still seems available for settlements. A TN settlement could support CN (UNC) companies. THe center of that NATION could be LN or NE which would then support other settlements at LE. THis did not need to happen now and will probably return. It was and will be advantageous for both (almost wrote good for both, but …).

Note that a LN center would also support LG settlements. If characters need to be one step from center of company, company one step from settlement, and settlements one step from nations, only CE is forbidden from the proposed mix. There are other combinations which exclude only 1 corner (given that one settlement is TN).

Wouldn't CG also be excluded?

Goblin Squad Member

Yeah, no one in PAX can play CG if both settlements are L

Goblin Squad Member

Xeen wrote:

All of the Chaotic alignments are left unserviced. This is the flaw in GW's thinking. They push the idea that lawful settlements will have advantages and I guess they will feign surprise that there are no chaotic training facilities in the PC settlements.

AHHH Flavor of the Month!!!

It will reign supreme in any game. Probably better stated as Flavor of the Year... It will take that long to realize and correct at minimum.

I like your confidence, but at the end of the day, they can destroy your character or design game mechanics so far against you that it'll be like everyone is wielding The Sword of 1,000 Truths (except you).

The mistake here might be in thinking that a game that's designed around PvP is PvP-friendly (since PvP is typically a CE act, unless it's within their confined little boundaries of what they consider acceptable).

Goblin Squad Member

I hear you Qallz

Yeah, I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that it would take a year to balance a thing.

The biggest problem is when the CEO of GW says that LE will be all powerful and LG will be difficult but all powerful... and CE will just suck... which means CG, CN, and etc will be mediocre.

Makes it obvious where the balance lies and what alignment to play so you do not fall behind... and the fact that those things will never be balanced so everyone can enjoy what alignment they choose...

Ryan plays LE (yes, let's start with what the dev's play).

LOL

Goblin Squad Member

I just had a thought. GW has said that your nation can't be True Neutral, but have they said the same of settlements? If they haven't, you could have a LN nation with a TN settlement which could have CN players and training, as long as I understand correctly. You'd still have to exclude CG and CE.

It's not the regular season yet, that would be OE. It's not even the preseason, that would be EE. It's the offseason, at best. And you guys just cut your 2nd rd draft pick before the 1st day of spring training because you think they MIGHT not fit the defense you're running.

Congratulations Pax.

We got flack for allying with UNC, we get flack for dissolving that alliance. It is almost like criticism for its own sake.

UNC is a completely free agent now. They stand to provide threat or a boon to whomever has the purchasing power to entice them. I honestly look forward to it.

Goblin Squad Member

Yeah, what the flack's up?

The problem with going with a TN settlement for Chaotic's training halls is that TN is unlikely to have the same opportunity for the highest tier of training as LN will, according to early reads of the info given. It should be better than CN settlements, but that might not be saying much at all.

@ Shane Gifford,

If you are at all concerned about your safety and the welfare of your cargo, come EE, feel free to contact me via PM and we can discuss a mutually beneficial contract between yourself and the UNC.

If you are in a company now, or you may be by then, they you may wish to represent them (I think that would be a good choice for them BTW).

@ Avari3

I have the same offer on the table for The Seventh Veil. Now that our channels are open.

@ Qallz

Any plans that we have in attaching with a CN settlement will wait until EE. If you or any other friends of yours are looking to join the UNC as recruits, we are open to almost everyone, yes even you!!

@ Being, Crimson Wing?.... Same offer

Thanks bro. But I was actually talking more about joining your CN Settlement, maybe with a CC of my own. I might roll with you during EE, but I don't plan to play the role of a robber long-term, just isn't my style.

The reasons you got flak for allying with UNC are completely different from the reasons you gave for breaking your alliance with them. The information regarding an expected 1-step alignment rule was available enough when you made the alliance that I concluded that one of the groups had reevaluated their alignment position...

No, we were just mistaken in our assumptions of the design intent of Nations

Sorry, after discussion any such agreement would have to include restrictions on the actions of UNC that we don't think you would comply with, specifically including a both an understanding regarding what targets are and are not 'fair game' and a blanket prohibition against violating the spirit of the agreement while complying with the letter thereof.

Personal Opinion and forward-looking statement:

If your actions in-game cause us to believe that we were mistaken about your intentions, the remote possibility of a reevaluation exists. It would be very surprising to me if your in-game actions differed that much from what I have come to expect.

It's not clear that a TN Settlement would actually be able to provide high tiers of Chaotic training.

If you mean we would not only limit our actions against you and your allies, but also against everyone else as well, we would be open to that agreement, for the right price. That agreement would be a very short term contract, or a very specific one.

But as I stated earlier, any new contracts will be discussed after EE and through PMs.

Appreciate it Bluud.

Crimson Wing will likely go LG but the Guild is still not investing time inPFO until it is on its feet and proven viable. We do get into PvP but we do have all types, including a few who would probably dovetail nicely with your interests.

But the word from on high is still that CW will aim for the LG alignment, even if that doesn't quite fit for yours truly what with all my treehugging ways, or at best NG all for me, Being, a.k.a. TibsBarkeep, OriginalTibs, Tibs, and Whack.

No? Ok, stab stab

Yes? Ok, travel safe
