Another player is playing a cleric, and they're casting the spell prayer, and they're stating that it gives a +5 bonus. When I asked them how they got the spell to be this powerful they said it was a feat.
I'm pretty confident that there's no feat that makes prayer a +5, so what feat did they see that might have lead them to think this? (or maybe I'm wrong, in which case where is this feat located)?

ok, it seems that it truly isn't a spell or ability that actually exists.
The group I play with is not very rules savvy, and I tend to ignore rules oversights b/c the GM doesn't tend to care, and I used to be pegged as the rules lawyer (b/c I would let people know when they were incorrectly using rules which I now avoid doing unless it affects my character). With that said, I thought the ability seemed ridiculous OP, but when I asked what feat it was, they just said, I don't remember but that's the affect.

If such a thing existed, it would be in EVERY clerical optimization guide from Alabama to Amsterdam.

Everybody hates rules lawyers until they need one.
Quote:With that said, I thought the ability seemed ridiculous OP, but when I asked what feat it was, they just said, I don't remember but that's the affect.Shouldn't it have been written on the character sheet?
probably, but since I'm just a fellow PC and not the GM I get the feeling that it'd be rude of me to ask to read over their character sheet. At the table I play at, looking over another character sheet is considered bad form, which is fine with me. It just results in weird glitches where this person (who I think is just mistaken not trying to cheat or anything) is completely misinterpreting the rules and I'm just sitting back knowing it's not right.
This wouldn't be the first time this person has made a mistake. They use the reach spell meta-magic feat without paying the associated cost, they don't roll to hit with their ranged spell attacks (spiritual weapon), and they combine mutually exclusive buffs.
It bothers me a bit because I work towards making a character who will be successful under the rules system, but I'm constantly getting shown up by characters using misinterpreted rules. Meh, I guess it's the price I pay for playing with long time old friends.

Um...I have had the exact same experience. I took the fella at his word and said "Hey that's fricken amazing! I want to build one, what feats/powers did you use?"
I wrote them down and went home. And looked them up. That's when I found out that none of them do what he claimed they did. I thought it was an honest mistake. Then I found out he made other honest mistakes which all resulted in tremendous power for his characters with other DMs in other games.
We had a quiet private talk with him and kept correcting him politely when he repeated his mistakes when they became excessive relative for our groups' comfort zone.
I want to believe the best in people so we kept being polite and addressing it like adults.
Since I'm not a witness to your game...all I can say is I do not know of any such feat...but it could be an honest mistake. So just jot it down next time and look it up.
If it turns out that this is a pattern of behavior then that's a matter to be discussed outside the game as adults. Or if it's not a big deal roll with it.
One thing that comes to mind, is that perhaps he used a character generator that accessed non-Paizo sources without realizing it. It's one thing to make a Pathfinder character. It's another to make a Paizo-only Pathfinder character. I know a good friend of mine made that goof without realizing it. He googled "Pathfinder feats" and didn't realize he was using third party sources.
If it turns out it is a real Paizo-source feat...please post it here. Me want! :)

That's fair. I don't necessarily thing they're a dirty cheat or anything; it's easy to screw something up in this game.
I still send out mea culpa emails between sessions when I realize I royally messed up a rule, GM or player. It happens all the time, but as long as it's addressed and doesn't get in the way of the game, no worries.

So, you're going to bench the feat that gives +5 to Prayer and put in one that gives +2 to Prayer while claiming that's the one you wanted all along, that the other feat only got in there because it's friends with the GM, and that it's the reason your character is so crappy rather than the fact that your AC is under 10 and all your weapons have the broken condition?

People shouldn't post at all. It's at least a minor infraction leading towards the chaotic neutral alignment to even talk on here.

Well there goes the Paladinhood, honey. Time for this guy to go Bandit before you and the kids starve.
But, on topic, I've misinterpreted things before, as I'm sure every one of us have. It's the patterns I'd watch for. If its a habit, it could be hard to break.

Wow, nobody gets the reference?
He mentioned Shanahanigans...referring to, I assumed, coach Mike Shanahan of the Washington Redskins who just benched RGIII for Kirk Cousins and blamed everything on the owner instead of their terrible defense, historically bad special teams, and lousy receivers in a last ditch effort to save his job (not that Snyder isn't a horrible owner that ruined his team, he's just not the only problem)...
Come on, people, football stats aren't that far removed from game mechanics, and Madden 25 is a great RPG :)

mplindustries, nice Redskins reference. Very clever actually.
Although the benching of the feat should have been because it's broken and needs an offseason to recover.
I think a lot of people want that to be the reason, and it's a damn good reason since the feat never had an offseason to practice what with the, uh, feat lockout (ok, I'm reaching) and catastrophic injury recovery, but I am pretty sure Shanahan is just losing his mind and burning bridges left and right.
Hey, maybe he's trying an elaborate plan to get hired by the Rams, since every loss from here on out helps them get a better draft pick!

Heh, totally off-topic of course... but as a Denver area resident, I watched Shanahan win two Super Bowls with the team that Wade Phillips built, then saw him screw up every draft and get snookered on the majority of his free agent deals. The exact same thing is happening in DC. Shanahan may be a great play designer and caller (although I would challenge even that) but he is unquestionably a horrible personnel and talent evaluater. If he insists again on full control in those areas, he may not get hired anywhere.

fellow PC and not the GM I get the feeling that it'd be rude of me to ask to read over their character sheet.
Yes
But that this approach (that I frequently use) which kinda goes like this:
Wow that is uber. I've been tinkering with a [insert type of build that fits] and this would be great for him. How does that work? I've gotta know. So I take [blah] and [blah] right?
| Sub_Zero |
OK, did I miss it in the Feat sacking sidebar? Did it ever get revealed what he did? I am curious because I have seen similar misinterpretations and I would love to know the source. I usually see a misread of Divine Favor/Power being applied.
I still don't know. That's one thing I'm still curious about is where they might have found some feat that could be misinterpreted to give the +5.

I've tried a similiar approach on other sketchy feats and I'm usually met with, "I don't remember what it's called".
