Hey Matt!
Right, and for 2 PP an Oil of Daylight is starting to become my "buy right after a CLW wand" thing.
Deeper darkness can sometimes be a bit of a pain. Some GM's will apparently say that Daylight wipes out the effect, but now you need darkvision to acutally see anything. I guess it depends on the ambient light in the room.
It seems to me that Deeper Darkness and Daylight should cancel each other, so then Light should be enough, but who knows?

![]() |

I didn't know about Oil of Daylight! That's great. Someone should have it as a 2 PP purchase in each group, certainly. Hopefully, the continuing groups can coordinate a few things like that.
I don't get the whole situation, either, since they talk about "ambient light" levels: what if the "ambient light levels" are caused by everburning torches (Continual Flame spells), etc., centered, at least, outside the radius of the particular darkness spell. Maybe magical light is just different and more easily negated than natural light coming in through windows or from regular sources of light, but then couldn't one have the ambient light coming from regular torches?

Shifty |

Its a very misunderstood part of the game.
Continual flames are of no benefit within the area of darkness, and if they are taken in their effects are simply suppressed. A heightened continual flame cast on a Ioun stone is also a popular choice, consult your nearest friendly player cleric.
'Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness. Magical light sources only increase the light level in an area if they are of a higher spell level than darkness'.
So the only way around this is to play Magical Trumps.
That said...
If they open with darkness, area damage becomes a boon - setting the area on fire (fireball, etc) or Webbing it, etc.

(Garedon appeared because I selected the wrong player. Sorry.)
Shifty, It still talks about ambient light levels, though, as affecting how dark either Darkness or Deeper Darkness can make it, by one or two light levels, respectively. So, the question becomes, what can be included in the category of ambient light. If the whole area of the inside of a room - i.e. "the illumination level in the area" - is lit by 1) torches, 2) magical torches, or 3) natural sunlight to a level of normal or bright light, what is the affect of a particular level of magical darkness in each? The spell Darkness only take Bright Light to Normal, or Normal to Dim and the spell Deeper Darkness only takes it two steps, from Bright Light to Dim, at least in the 3rd case.

![]() |
As far as I am aware, the ambient level is the natural default setting, ie starlight, pitch black dungeon, or natural sunlight ie what it was before people brought a light source in. I think I prefered the old 2nd ed explanation better :)
Anyhow, Svetlana can see in the dark, so at least we shouldn't have a blind tank.

![]() |

Hmmm, we've always played that all light sources effect ambient light - there seems to be nothing to indicate they do not. Ambient means relating to the immediate surroundings, and a torch, sunrod, etc., would be part of the immediate surrounding - I think they would have called it out if it weren't.

Ugh, Dietrich has become my PBP/FtF mess. Dates overlapping, scenarios re-played, other issues... Anyway, earlier I edited my old session, then tried to switch it back when I caught the date overlap. Even so, it messed up how things appeared in the sessions section of my character (showig his name but no Prestige).
I ran a game on the 18th of November. That's the same day we had the first encounter of this session, so I'm calling it good and putting the GM cred on him. We "started" this game on 13 Nov, but I'm too frustrated with reporting issues to go back now. Usually, when things are close, it's ok to say the PBP game "offically and legally" began with the first encounter, so I think I'm ok here.
Maybe I'll give Dietrich a nice long rest after this series of games. I certainly won't drop any more GM creds on him until we're all through. If we manage to finish all 5 scenarios, though he'll get just past level 4, which should be cool!

![]() |

Dietrich - I have one that somehow, under the "Sessions" for one character has the name of another character, even though the hyperlink associated with the name is to the other, correct name (if that makes any sense).
I also have ones where, because of the less-reliable, gameday reporting system, didn't get the credit they were supposed to. Instead, it was assigned to another character and I had to quickly find a GM credit for the character when I discovered the error. (Oti, actually, was illegal at the start of this game because of it. ^^; I am sure I typed his name and number into that Google form correctly but something happened between it and the Paizo records. But, I finished another GM cred and that time it assigned correctly.)
And, I am still looking for them to sort out a GM boon, too, since I got one for the VTT gameday instead of the Online PbP gameday. Oh well. Things will probably be a mess if I ever find a F2F game and really have to worry about it. (I doubt most people know about the new-ish Inventory Tracking Sheets, either.)
But, there are a lot of humans and too few aasimars involved in these things, so mistakes are bound to happen. ;-)

Shifty |

That's reassuring. I am still waiting for credit/boon for the tables I ran - none of my players have reported getting anything to me, surely ONE would have by now :p
I'm also not a fan of the Inv Track Sheets, I put everything into an .xls spreadsheet, MUCH better and more comprehensive (You can use your own sheet).

![]() |

I do the Excel sheet, too, and that is my most reliable one. Parts of my online character sheets are often accidentally out-of-date, and my PCGen characters don't have everything available nor do that have any kind of history, but the Excel keeps track of purchases and sales well, so I am really filling that in and have a record there down to the copper.
The only problem now is I have so many things in so many different places: the printed, fully filled out sheets; the online, minimal originals from the GM; and these other record keepers. I think I will become an accountant at this rate (not a lion tamer).

Quite a discussion. Looks like many of you at least have a idea of what you may be facing when we run DV anyway. I have faith that I won't kill the party off... much. A big point will be party make-up, and since the GM is effectively the VC, it's my job to put your team together well enough to face the challenge ahead. If we feel iffy about it by the time we reach our third act, I might postpone it a bit.
Sorry for going MIA yesterday, went to the doc and had to get shots in my SI joint and the meds I took had me dozing all day. Good news is I'm feeling a good deal better now. ^_^
Working on your updates now!

bluedove |

Nope, no red x. Don't worry. I actually painted them on your final map. You won't miss them. Good thing too, your fellow Pathfinders would likely not be pleased if you told them you planned to tote that gold to your faction leaders. ^_~

bluedove |

I will be needing your Pathfinder numbers and email addresses post haste!
I'm still not sure how I plan to create the Chronicle sheets. I don't think I have anything to edit it in PDF form, so it's probably going to be an image file I put text over.

![]() |

Standard practice seems to be to host the chronicles on Google docs or photo bucket send the link in a PM and keep it up for a week or so warning everyone to save it.

I just do them up on Foxit PDF editor and email them out.
Once you have everyones details it tends to be pretty quick and easy. Everyone seems to have their own system though :)

Beta is now through the final combat and we'll have a bit of wrap up and cast the die anew, eh?
Still need Gaius' PFS info, and I will have the Chronicles out soon. How soon will depend on how motivated I am after I've had some sleep. Z_Z

bluedove |

Ok, Chronicle Sheets have been sent out to everyone but Tresca, as I'm giving her a chance to make her Day Job roll.
Now to report it!

GM bluedove, Have you decided on the groups yet?'
Also, if you need to recruit, some of us know some other good role-players and could spread the word, especially if we know what is needed.
~~
Oti is selling his Scale Mail and buying Air Crystals; Alchemist's Fire, 2; Antitoxin; Banded Mail; Caltrops; Mace (Heavy/Alch. Silver); Oil of Magic Weapon; Potion of Touch of the Sea; Smelling Salts; Wrist Sheath (Spring Loaded), 2.
I still haven't decided about spending 2 PP on a dose of Oil of Daylight since I've already bought a Wand of CLW, but we should probably have someone in our group with it. It might be best not to be a front-line person since it would need to be retrieved and applied (MA and SA) and you wouldn't want to provoke two AoOs.

bluedove |

I've contacted our alternates to see if they respond in a timely manner, but it all depends on how many you prefer to have in your team. I'd like to see at least 5 team members and the roles of healer and trap-spotter covered. You guys are already anticipating going underground, so think dungeon crawl!

![]() |

Tanselle will purchase a wayfinder and 8 alchemical cartridges in anticipation of this next mission.
Should I use my first 2 PP to get a wand of CLW even if I can't use it on myself?

![]() |

Day job roll (26) is on the previous page, about 10 posts from the bottom.
As for purchases, I'm interested in doing the 2PP for the wand of cure light wounds as well. Can somebody give me a hand figuring out how making purchases off of the always available list works? I'm trying to figure it out, and I seem to just be going in circles trying to find the list of items I can purchase from my faction

![]() |

Tanselle, it seems to be the general consensus that you should buy a Wand of CLW soonish so as to be able to cover most of your non-combat healing. So, probably at least by 2nd level it would be good.
But, for their first, for example, monks tend to get the Wand of Mage Armor and have someone else cast it on them, archers get a much better strength bow, etc. My wizard purchased a Wand of Magic Missile with his first so that he would almost always have something to contribute to a fight, and got a Wand of CLW second. (Probably should have picked up a Wand of Shield or Mage Armor, but I didn't know who was going to have what.)

I don't know about the other group, but I thought ours should be well set, even with the loss of Svetlana and Li Shuo.
Jorag and Frindlikh fill the cleric and trapfinder roles, respectively, and then Otiophon, Mujenbai and Unapp, and Marco round it out.

![]() |

Li Shuo is in to, so we should be all set. I'll probably use my spells for things other than cure lights this time since we seem to be set on healing, does that sound alright to everyone? Not sure if I'm going to pick up a cure wand, I might go for something druid specific.

![]() |

Sounds good to me, Mujenbai.
For general spending (or perhaps even a 2 PP purpose), I think it is probably general knowledge that derro (and dungeons) mean darkness, magical and otherwise.

![]() |

I'll be getting the wand of cure light wounds as well. alchemists can use spell trigger devices for spells on their list (clw is one of them), so Tresca can fill a healer role for her table!

![]() |

I do not know if it will be required for the upcoming scenario or not.
But please remember CLW isn't what I would require the most important 'healer role' capability.
Things like neutralize poison, lesser restoration, cure disease, etc... are much harder to take care of then hit point damage. I always start trying to buy at least 1 of those type of potions or scrolls each scenario. But then people always seem to get upset that I don't have one for everybody.

![]() |

Very good point. Backup healing is still an option, perhaps, but Tresca cant use scrolls without UMD to cover the other things you mentioned.
Still trying to figure out what Tresca's combat role should be, to be honest. Her extracts can only be self targeted until she gains a few levels/alchemical discoveries, but she'll gain some versatility once she does. I'm thinking I need to try using bombs more often. Hitting a grid intersection splashes all 4 adjacent squares for decent damage, and the AC of a grid intersection is rediculously low (5 or 10 I think?). Low damage, but hard to avoid damage.
