I'm thinking of trying my hand at another play by post game after a number of attempts. This time, I'm looking to see if there is enough interest in a game set in Kobold Press' Midgard setting in the Wasted West. The West was devastated by warring magocracies many years ago, leaving much of the land ruined. Cthonic titans, summoned by the fallen city states in their arcane arms race, stand frozen in near-stasis across the wastes where their presence warps the magical leylines and issues mind-shattering horrors. Dust goblin tribes worship them or scavenge for strange ancient technology in the waste's many ruins. Human civilizations still survive on the borders of the wastes and there is always a need for those brave or foolhardy enough to venture into and across the desolation or into the strange Western Ocean to the edge of the world.
If I see a good amount of enthusiasm, I may start recruitment as early as next week once I lay out digital maps and complete some preparations.

Can we use Kobold Press materials to make characters with, since this is set in Midgard? I'm thinking a perpetually-drunk-on-gear-oil Gearforged Cleric with the Hellfire Preacher Archetype would be awesome! Also, are you playing up or playing down some of the Lovecraftian horror elements of the Wasted West?
In case you haven't noticed, STRONG INTEREST in this campaign, at least from me!

I love Lovecraft so it will definitely be an element- but I also don't want to overdo it. My aim is for a good mixture of styles and adventures and I think one of my favorite things I've seen from Kobold Press was the idea of epic adventures even at low levels- no glorified extermination jobs, just memorable and punchy adventures.
I plan on allowing Kobold Press material, yes. Where is the Hellfire Preacher archetype from?

I will do some prep-work, re-read some adventures and put things together for a recruitment thread soon.
If you're at all interested in learning about the setting, the Player's Guide series are quite good and the guide to the Wasted West has some interesting character options.

I was a little surprised to see that there were no Half-Giants in the Wasted West, though there is a Sorcerers bloodline. Any chance you would consider the Half-Giant from Dreamscarred?
I was think of a Half Gaint Wastelands Seeker.

I've had an unorthodox (read: weakened) Summoner build idea in mind for a while that I might try to outfit for this, if they're allowed (the setting feels perfect). Otherwise it looks like I might finally give a Gunslinger a whirl.
There is actually an archetype in the Wasted West book called the Wastelands Summoner. Plus some new Summoner related doohickeys. I'm not very familiar with the class, so I can't tell you how good/interesting it seems.

Yeah I had glanced at it but didn't really love it.
The problem with the summoner is that it's a strong casting class with a companion that has the power equivalent of a fighter, so it's basically like two characters in one, which is why a lot of GMs ban it - it's a b*$*@ to balance for.
I'm really not into optimising characters, particular when I have an idea that makes the character somewhat weaker but more interesting at the same time. (For instance I have a character in a game now who is a spell-less archaeologist bard.)
My summoner would be a weaker caster with an Eidolon who isn't a tank. Which is probably basically unheard of. But the idea behind it is neat.

I'll have character creation guidelines later when I'm not at work.
For firearms- they're early in their development and very rare- a secret of the Cantonal dwarves, along with their airships. A gun-toting PC will need a connection to the Ironcrags in order to carry gunpowder weapons.
I've never seen a summoner played before, so I need to read up on them.
I can't say I'm a fan of the Half-giant. If you really want a monstrous PC, I could look into the Trollkin race, maybe re-skin the Half-Orc race.
