It just puts the bleak nihilism of the Cthulhu Mythos into a setting that didn't really need it in the first place.

Some people prefer to give the players a chance to earn a happy ending. This just shot down any canon ways of doing so.

Something to keep in mind is that the Great Old Ones, while some may be evil (Bokrug isn't), are just not really active. They aren't out to enslave humanity or raise armies of darkness to rail against the light. Like demon lords, archdevils, etc. Their more like natural disasters than anything else.

Also, as far as PC's are concerned, Rovagug, Asmodeus, Lamashtu, etc are also unkillable. So it's not like Mythos beings are the only things that are hands off for destruction.

It's kind of hard to take a demon lord or devil seriously if it's name is Amy, so I am hoping they don't stat that one :P

Heck, there are even NON-MYTHIC critters out there that are unkillable, that the best you can do is drive them back into slumber. See: The Tarrasque.

If it wasn't a joke I wouldn't mind a one horned, one eyed, purple people eater.

Speaking of the Demon Lords, let's see what we have so far:

* Dagon
* Kostchtchie
* Pazuzu
* Xoveron (Pathfinder #73: The Worldwound Incursion pg. 84)
* Shax (Pathfinder #74: Sword of Valor pg. 84)
* Sifkesh (Pathfinder #75: Demon's Heresy pg. 86)

Paizo has dozens of Demon Lords as presented in Lords of Chaos, and they're all waiting for stats. You can see the list here.

Same for archdevils.

Good to know, I wasn't aware about this list ^_^

Bear with me, there's actually a demon called like that in the Ars Goetia...

Yup. Aside from Nyarlathotep, they don't really seem to have much inherent malice...the death, destruction, and insanity they cause is simply a byproduct of their existence.

And dude, if you slept for a few aeons and when you woke up, some tasty little morsels were jumping up and down on your front door, you'd probably scarf down a few as well.

:D

Oh yeah I am familiar with the Ars Goetia. I still Think Amy the Demon Lord sounds like Bob the ArchDevil

Don't you mean Bo'ob?

They should put in Razor Eddie, the punk god of the Straight Razor. :)

Some good aligned outsiders. They're so underrepresented! It almost seems like the higher planes are pretty much vacant. Just something to counterbalance the glut of demons would be nice.

It would take at least three hardcover bestiaries to counterbalance the glut of demons and that is if all three of those books had no demons in them.

To me, it makes sense to have a huge number of different outsider races from the planes of chaos, while is would expect far less for each of the planes of order (perhaps only one per challenge rating).

Which kind of makes the limited number of proteans all the sadder :(

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I would be happy to see one creature for CR1-20 for Angels, Azatas, Proteans, Inevitables, Agathions, Oni, Qlippoths, Azura, and Rakshasa.

If they add in more of the outsiders I hope to see:

Non Giant Oni's, I like catfolk, Tengu, Kitsune, Goblin and other such race oni's there are enough giants as it is...

More interesting Rakshasa and Asura's as for the ones we have so far I only like the normal Rakshasa and the Raktavarna and the Adhukait Asura, I also would like more Asura's that don't have multiple arms.

I love all the Agathions we have so far so that is pretty well done and just continue with those.

More proteans are a must for me!

don't care for Inevitables or angels.

HOLD IT! I got [yet] another request. Ok, many of the templates I've seen in B4 are taken from Green Ronin's Advanced Bestiary:
- Broken Soul
- Fungal creature
- Devil-Bound
- Divine Guardian
- Nightmare creature

So, does Paizo have an agreement with them to publish some of their templates in other Bestiaries and Adventure Paths? If so, how about adding these to B5?

- Celestial-Blessed
- Demon-Possessed
- Feral Dragon
- Manimal
- Metal-Clad creature
- Verminoid

While I almost agree with you on no more giant based oni, I still want a Cyclops type oni.

As for Nekomata, I would like there alignment to be a 50% split half for CG and half CE. Same for Bakeneko.

Giant races that resemble other humanoid races such as lashunta, catfolk, goblin, lizardfolk, etc. Lashunta based giant has antennae, telepathy, maybe some other psychic abilities. Catfolk one has fast healing, scent, immunity to disease. Goblin one can shapeshift and has some fire based spell powers.

Incorporeal undead formed of many spirits into a sphere shape with many faces and maybe arms.

Also like to see more giants with multiple arms or heads.

Spirit of vengeance(native outsider) that forms from the massacre/genocide of a village or entire culture to seek revenge against this culture's killer(s).

Pigmy dragons, single CR1/2-1 range, and swarm version CR5-7 range.

A ghost like undead too weak to be dangerous on it's own so must posses a host to accomplish unfinished business it had in life so it can rest in peace. Can be any alignment.

1. They don't need an agreement, as the Advanced Bestiary was Open Content.

2. It seems that Green Ronin has plans to republish the Advanced Bestiary, in a Pathfinder edition.

3. Paizo doesn't seem to really like more complicated templates, especially outside of something like a lich or a vampire. They've only made very sparing use of them, preferring "simple" templates.

Alien/made up animals that are actually the animal type.

Almost finished my bestiary 4 read + just finished up my note-taking on the Native American little people book that I had out on ILL.

I am going to start producing a master bestiary want list this week, going through this thread. When I have this thread finished...I will post a link to a public viewable copy in a new thread. Keep the hits coming until then.

Alien animals that don't have more than 4 legs, they get overused.

I voted for fantastic animals (and vermin) in every wish list so far. All we ever got were giant versions of existing animals. While i'm glad we finally have dire weasels, i think it's time the design team sexpanded their horizon considering the animal type.

Colossus, Gazebo

I have to agree about that word, Gazebo, it would make a great creature name:)

We have the Nue in Bestiary 3.

I never understood this American humor about a gazebo, it's on every forum but I never understood why the Gazebo is suppose to be so funny?

And I agree about the real-world animals that should get some magical & fantasy versions instead of the dire/giant versions.

Gazebo explained

And my point about animals is for there to be some that are NOT real-world animals. I mean just a plain, hum-drum animal that the people of Golarion would consider to be nothing special...but that does not have an Earth equivalent.

There is a story attached to it. Supposedly actually happened during an RPG session.

I have been ninja'd

Thanks for clearing that one out for me, tho I don't find it funny, probably another level of humor, too simple and not dark enough.

Anyway, I really like to see a Autumn Spirit creature, one that destroys plant life with it's aura and who'm brings Autumn with it's aura and one that depicts autumn with its appearance, of course autumn should be somewhere inside its name. They are creatures that hate nature and especially plant life and destroy it wherever they go.

I also want a winter spirit creature, one that wants to turn the entire planet into a frozen wasteland and which attacks anything warm hearted or warm bodied.

Alternatively a Distant Worlds Bestiary could be something for the Campaign Setting line. (Although I'd still want 64-page gazetteers for Castrovel, Triaxus, and Akiton before that.)

I would love a hardcover book for distant words but this is the Bestiary 5 wishlist so lets get back to that.

Well if were going to have a Gazebo then we also need a wild Fandango;)

on page 3 of this thread and already have 5 pages of monsters and monster idea compiled. I totally sympathesize with the developers comments on the first page :(

Admittedly if it were almost any other creature type...

>_>

<_<

I'd like to show my approval for statting up the gazebo for a future bestiary.

Lords of the nine, and the Dukes of hell, at least some of them.

And I'd like to say that if they stat up the Gazebo, other funny creaturs like Hoop Snake and Drop Bear must be done as well.

Well they could say that creatures like the "Gazebo", Hoop Snake, and Drop Bear are from the dimension of dreams.

Well in all fairness MMCJawa there will be a lot repeats after the first 3 pages.

As I said the Gazebo would make an awesome colossus.

The group finds themselves in a peaceful garden, with a white painted gazebo in the center. One of the players, jokingly, starts attacking the gazebo, when suddenly the ground underneath starts moving and the Gazebo rises up into the air, as the head of a body made otherwise of earth, cobblestone and finely cut grass.

What I'd like to see;

Distant Worlds creatures mentioned but not presented in the beastiary section, with player options. Yeah, I know most are just "slightly different humanoids," but still....

Templates. Many templates!

Good aligned creatures. Including Good dragons. Pet peeve, there are so many evil dragons. Heck, even the Primal and Space dragons have evil members, but no good ones. Oh no no no.

Affordable, craftable constructs.

Leviathan.

Sentient/living spells.

Another good aligned outsider subtype of multipul creatures (we have archons, angels, agothians, azata, while evil has devils, demons, div, daemons, demodad, rashaka, krytan, qlipoth, asura.....)

More creatures with DR Law or DR Chaos. It seems that the war between those two alignments is barely touched at, but the good/evil one is all over the place.

That said, excellent work on B4. It filled many of the least represented creature types (aberrations, magical beasts, monstrous humanoids, and fey).

Sounds like a good way to get bizarre, alien celestials into the game. :)

Huh...going through the Appendix N reread project on Tor, I found another possible good source for new monsters:

A. Merrit's books, including The Moon Pool, are past copyright, and were huge inspirations for DnD.

There are some good monsters in here, like the Silent Ones/Taithu (benevelent bird-angel-lizard things), The Dweller/Shining One (sort of an evil intelligence) and he Akka (Subterranean Frog people)

More Great Old Ones plz! And everyone else so far has had excellent ideas. Keep them coming! Paizo has a year to put this together... although I wish I didn't have to wait so long. :-)
