[Dreamscarred Press] Upcoming Miniature Kickstarter

Product Discussion

Publisher, Dreamscarred Press

We've talked about it, we've asked for feedback, and we got lots of interest, so we're going to do it. Psionic miniatures are something missing, and who else to provide them but Dreamscarred Press?

To do it, we've sought out professional miniature sculptors to turn our iconic characters into miniature figures and have already approached a company capable of turning those figures into metal figurines.

To prove we can do it, we've already hired a sculptor to do an initial miniature. Once that's done, we plan to launch a Kickstarter to fund the remaining figures. Our estimated timeframe for the Kickstarter is May-June, pending the completion of that first miniature.

The great thing about this project is that it should not distract us from Ultimate Psionics, as neither Andreas nor myself will be doing the sculpting or production.

So, how many psionic miniatures do YOU want? Because we've got big plans depending on the support!

Ooh, I do love minis...

Contributor

A set of at least ten player minis and five enemies. Should be a good start.

(Or anything at all, I'm not too picky.)

Dark Archive

I am more interested in Dreamsccared races more than Psionic Minis, but one miniature in particular I am looking forward too is an Ageis.

I would definitely buy some psionic minis.

Things I would like to see:

-Non-robed female minis - maybe holding up two fingers to their temples like they are concentrating

-Astral Construct

-Monk females

-Female with a mindblade

Silver Crusade

I would like some psionic minis. yes please.

How about a male and female for the various classes? maybe a couple of monsters?

It would be cool to see a mini of a Psionic Warrior using 'natural weapon' powers such as bite of the wolf and claws of the beast in addition to 'standard' weapon using versions.

If they're doing the iconics, I don't think any of our handful of female iconics are robed. Based on the iconic art, at least the Cryptic, Marksman, Kineticist, Phrenic Slayer, Soul Archer, and Mystic Archer are female characters without robes. The Wilder is a female in a dress (not really a robe).

On top of that, Jeremy and Andreas have put out a high number of Females in the NPC book that their art is not in a robe as well.

You might check the UP kickstarter updates (link) to see some of the art previews.

Interesting.

Any thought about pledge/price point for the level that would include "all" of them?

Liberty's Edge

A psicrystal or two would be handy.

A customizable psionic construct would be neat. Where it has a comes with a couple alternate arms so you can tweak the look slightly.

Dividing it into GM and Player mini packs/ rewards would be a good idea. A GM who likes using psionic monsters doesn't need PCs and PCs don't need monsters. But there could also be an "everything" package.

Unfortunately that's only available for backers of the Ultimate Psionics book.

I'll see about putting together a public artwork update. :)

I'm in. Total miniatures junkie.

Somewhere in the dozen to twenty molds would work for me. I accept the realities of random distribution as well, so if a set of 20 molds meant a box of 40 minis at around $120, I could live with that.

Mindblade users are the obvious. A couple of them, a couple aegis, an a few psywars would be essential. Basically mind-armor/blades and natural weapons on people are just not something you find in existing minis.

From there, a few random manifester types I figure.

Judicious use of transparent plastic would really light these up.

Sigh. A couple hundred Reaper Bones to paint, not yet arrived, and already I'm ordering more. Good job.

Well a couple of the best thought out miniature Kickstarters have been the Stonehaven Mini's one. Whereby you built to enable the complete set being available, with the unlocking of stretch goals.

Although as psionic characters are severely under-represented it should be very successful.

So I just wanted to bump this up because we just got the nearly-completed pictures of the soulknife sculpture and are really excited about getting this project going! Once it's done, we'll be launching the Kickstarter (probably in early June) to fund the first set of minis and potentially more depending on the success of the project - including psionic monsters and astral construct miniatures.

It's amazing as a psionics fan to bring these characters to life like this. :)

That's really cool, actually having some greens for a couple of the mini's will help as well as a well-planned campaign. I am looking forward to this.

Just wanted to share that the green sculpt is finished and we've gotten the Kickstarter approved!

So, what would YOU want to see as a miniature?

And the countdown to kick off has begun!

Woot. Can't wait to Friday to find out how empty my wallet will become.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised - we try to price things what we'd likely pay - as long as that price covers the actual costs + shipping + fees + etc.

To me, Psionics has no place in my fantasy genre. (Please take your gasps, pleas and defensive rant elsewhere. This is my opinion after decades of gaming and it isn't going to change.)

D&D minis were affordable off the second market, if I was choosy, and I am content with my collection.

Pathfinder miniatures were way too expensive for my budget.

If I were to invest in your product, it must not scream 'psionics' very loudly, instead leaning towards the generic [see below] and must be priced lower than Pathfinder minis.

Thank you for hearing me out.

More on 'Generic': The aforementioned girl with two index fingers to her temples in concentration is a good one. Lightly armored types with glowy weapons are fine.

Hey, incidentally, telling people "don't try to tell me otherwise" is pretty much rude. I'd add "don't try to tell me otherwise" but...

Elsewhere in the news, if you've been following the art previews for Ultimate Psionics, the style suggests that things should be fine. Check the Kickstarter page for a few samples.

So are these going to be plastic or are they metal minis?

From the original post...

Hah, I was going to quote the exact same thing, but you beat me to it. Some people just don't read...

Now, now.

Let's keep the snark to a minimum. :-)

Only a few more days until we launch!

You know, you're absolutely right. Some people just don't.

For instance... me.

I was partway through my reply explaining how these are pre-painted plastic when I went back to gather my proof, and found that I have been absolutely delusional since Jeremy posted his first tease.

Funny how the brain works. And I - unlike k_v didn't even have the excuse of a long thread. Sigh.

Sorry, let me rephrase the question as it seems too many people were busy point out the metal vs. plain plastic as opposed to what I was actually looking for.

Are they going to be your standard metal like the old school ones, or the new metal with protective plastic coating style?

Man this thread is taking a hostile direction. If it makes you feel any better, I apologize for being too busy answering the question you asked instead of the question you meant to ask. <Grin>

But seriously, I've never heard of what you're talking about. Jeremy would be the one to directly answer you but I confess to being intrigued. Where have you seen/heard of such a thing as plastic-coated-metal?

It was a proposed Kickstarter that unfortunately didn't get funded. Was just wondering if DS was doing up standard minis or if they were going to try and complete what the other Kickstarter wasn't able to.

It was essentially a plastic resin that would help protect the metal inside from getting chipped or scuffed.

Publisher, Dreamscarred Press

It's just standard metal.

This project is very new ground for us, so we are keeping it standard for now.

So, I'm a little confused on something, since I've never actually played psionics. For the minis of the psionics classes, how does one differentiate them with arcane or divine casters? Wizards, Clerics, Druids, and Bards at least has some ways to differentiate between themselves (pointy hat, leaves, holy symbol). How will this be down with the psionics classes?
