Scarab Sages 1/5

I just ran The Devil We Know Part I: Shipyard Rats and my players did excellent although they almost died as a group during one battle, burning a lot of resources to stay alive.
When the adventure was over I printed off the Chronicler Sheet and it said in the Items Block "No Additional Items". Does that mean there are No Items for the adventure? Or does it mean I have to hand write them in?

It means that there are no additional items on the Chronicle Sheet for that tier. Essentially, that chronicle doesn't "unlock" any items for that tier that they couldn't buy already.

Thanks.

So just to clarify; By defeating an enemy and gaining a magic item there is no reward? No discount on cost? Nothing like that? Seems unfair to the players.

They get to use it for free for the rest of the scenario...

But no, there is not discount in costing. If the item is not on the always available list, it would appear on the chronicle and the character would gain access to buy it regardless of fame. In this case, there should not have been any "loot" encountered during the scenario that wasn't always available.

EDIT: And of course, the item's sale value is used to help calculate the max gold figure on the chronicle sheet as well.

Certainly, there's a reward. Each PC gets his share of the value of that magic item. The reward system in PFS is an abstraction, but the "recovered loot" is actually pretty carefully calculated, to make the GP award on the Chronicle sheet add up properly.

That's the biggest reason why there were no specific items listed on the Chronicle: all the items which the PCs found during the adventure were things that are on the "Always Available" list, and such items are not listed on Chronicle sheets.

Conversely, any recovered item which is *not* on the Always Available list will always show up on the Chronicle, even if, logically, the PCs would all have enough Fame to be able to buy it anyway (e.g., a +1 cloak of protection on a high tier Chronicle).

Everything in this thread is accurate, but it's confusing to read through. Here's a quick summary:

Characters who find magical items during an adventure, or who recover them from enemies, may use those items (even consumables) during the adventure. At the end of the adventure, they give up those items and instead receive gold for them. This gold is included in the "Total Gold" listed on the chronicle sheet.

The Chronicle does not list items that are in the "Always Available" category. (eg: +1 swords, CL 1 potions or wands, etc.) Sometimes Always Available items are listed if their CL is higher than the norm (eg: a CL5 wand of magic missile)

If a chronicle lists items on it, the players do not get those items for free. Instead, they gain access to it and may purchase it for the cost listed on the chronicle.

OOC, this is justified by keeping the players from fighting over who gets to keep a particular item.

IC, this is explained as "You submit all magical items to the Grand Lodge in Absalom, and as thanks, you are able to purchase the item from the Society for its normal cost."

Hope this helped!

Thanks.

My Players were looking at me fairly dubiously when I handed them those Chronicler Sheets.

Also note that the scenario in question is almost 4 years old at this point, and we now make a concerted effort to ensure that there's something cool and new on every Chronicle sheet.
