A Book of Creatures covered the Ookempan, and there's going to be another Tehuelche monster on Friday.


So I just heard from a buddy that WotC has put up their old gazeteer from the 90's that detailed their lands of North American Amerindian tribes. It's here if anyone wants to check it out. I haven't read it yet.

Good list but I don't actually think that the Wikkawak is a real mythological creature. It sounds and looks like some kind of Inuit bogeyman or a Wendigo subspecies, but I've tried looking it up a few times and only found sources related to Pathfinder. Inuit mythology is one of the most well-recorded of the First Nations mythologies online, not that that's really saying much. It could just be a weird variant spelling, or perhaps a rather strange play on "Witiko" or something similar though, so please, by all means, correct me if you know something I don't.

Yeah, I'm just barely getting back to work on my list today, and I realized my mistake about the Wikkawak when I was reviewing. It's definitely of Pathfinder origin with Inuit themes. Fortunately, I do have a much more thorough list now! Presented here for your viewing pleasure:

Hey, read a bit about Arcadia as part of some prep work I'm doing and noticed this part about the Kansari people: "The Kansari were originally hostile to the colonists of Valenhall, attacking with arrows and tomahawks, until unknown Ulfen diseases thinned their ranks."

This is a clear analogue to the plagues Columbus and his men brought with him, but I'd doubt the Ulfen, as viking analogues, would have sufficient plagues with them to do this.

Ulfen society doesn't seem to reflect a society that would develop plagues (large cesspool-like cities with thousands of domesticated animals).

Then again, it's one people vs. a whole continent, so perhaps the Ulfen settlers' diseases could be enough??

Suppose one could argue daemonic influence since this is Golarion and all, but I'd consider that outside of the scope of my argument. :P

The plague and disease thing is old and unfortunate canon and not ideal. It is something that I've tried to debride from out setting for a while.

It looks like you've pulled that quote from the Pathfinder Wiki, which seems to be using an old idea with the relatively new name for the Kansari (who, unfortunately, were originally called skraelings).

So! With that said, there wasn't really a plague/disease thing going on in Arcadia to any mass scale.

Was fan work on Arcadia just abandoned in 2018? Any new development since December 29, 2018? Did it move to a new thread?

If anything, I leave the plague and disease to have happened well before the Ulfen ever showed up and we can thank the Azlanti for that.

There was a Columbian Exchange in Arcadia, it just happened over 10,000 years ago during the Age of Legend and the peoples and the lands have long since adapted and recovered.

I can't speak to that, but I do know with Luis Loza on the Lost Omens product line, we're all pretty sure we're getting some serious Arcadia stuff here in the next couple of years.


Tyrant's Grasp was 2019 right? The 5th adventure of that is in Xopatl, a nation in Arcadia, and has an article detailing it. There's a page about it on PathfinderWiki too.

There was also that one society scenario set in far northern Arcadia. Has some neat lore but it clashes a bit with what was previously established as the main inhabitants of the area seem to be Mahwek rather than Kansari. Luis Loza wrote that and I believe he's also running a (non-canon) podcast campaign set in a different region of Arcadia.

Don't know about fan made stuff though.

This thread probably should note that Lost Omens Ancestry Guide has details on a few neat Arcadian tidbits, especially in the Catfolk section.

"There's also firing mechanisms and options completely unique to Golarion; in Arcadia, the land is covered with lakes hiding huge reserves of star metal scattered across the continent during Earthfall, and they've developed many unique weapons and forms of ammunition that can only exist thanks to those vast deposits of rare minerals. There's also parts of Arcadia that completely lack these resources but have innovated equivalent devices by harvesting biological components from fantastic creatures and repurposing them through alchemy and taxidermy."

Too late to edit so I'll just add on to this: Luis has addressed this in his Q&A thread. The Kansari are still around in that part of Arcadia, but the lore around them is being retconned somewhat to avoid any harmful stereotypes about real-world Native Americans/First Nations people.

Guns & Gears also describes an Arcadian tradition (from where, who knows?) of gunmaking that swaps out powder and shot for an arcane firing mechanism. I’d love to see that expanded on!

Most of Arcadia's firearm traditions and techniques come from a specific region of Arcadia, which gets a name, a healthy dose of lore, and some new mechanical options in Guns & Gears!

They’ve already said that lasers and other high tech are not in this book.
