Off the top of my head, there are at least two religious services to Pharasma outlined in the PF Tales novels.

In Prince of Wolves, Varian observes a high-holiday celebration where pharasmins walk through a body of water holding list flames. The flames extinguish in the water only to re-light on the other side.

I'm not sure if this is a Varisian-only celebration without checking. The book describes it much better and more poetically than I just did.

In Death's Heretic, Salim witness the high-priest of pharasma in Thuvia preach a ceremony where he uses a glass to almost extinguish a candle flame, only to let it re-light at the culmination of the message.

As a surprise third:

spoiler:
The end of Stalking the Beast has some details of in-ceremony call and response style stuff for a Razmiri temple. But Razmir is a weak false god anyways ;)

While I agree that Cale was, musically, very talented, can you shed some light on his credentials as either a tactician or a historian?

I can write a(n admittedly less-good) song that includes whatever words I like. That won't make those words true.

OK, when?

I would agree with your interpretation as a fair one. It's one round since the last save attempt:

Quote:
he/she/it takes the save at the initiative at which the spell was cast, probably when the caster turn come up if that hasn't changed, and before the caster act.
Quote:
Wery few creatures are immune to "held in place", even if they are immune to paralysis.

Being "held" counts as helpless. Good luck with all those FORT saves for Coup de Grace attempts from the whole party if you fail a save.

of course, stuff from Kobold Press is also included in these bundles, if that will also have an effect on said custom donation amounts. ;p

PS. Now two days and some hours before the bundle offer ends. ;)

Kobold Press are not listed as a recipient of any funds.

Only FGG, Chidlren's Miracle Network Hospitals and Humble itself.

So, that knowledge did affect my donation amounts :D

EDIT: To be fair to FGG, Kobold Press are only listed as creators of 7 things across the whole triple bundle set. The other 218 are Frog God's.

34 hours to go.

Bill Webb still at FGG?

That... might affect my custom donation amounts.

Doesn't some of the lore around the Asmodeus/Ihys creation myth specifically say that we're getting our information from a lying liar who tells lies and the story can't necessarily be trusted?

James Jacobs wrote:
Asmodeus can, and often does, lie. Whether or not he sees it as a lie is up to him to justify. He's smarter than most of us, after all. But no, he's not really called the "Prince of Lies" in Pathifnder. That bit that popped up in Prince of Wolves is an editorial oversight, I guess—should have been "Prince of Darkness" in those cases, which is and has long been his nickname in Pathfinder.

And is used in at least one, if not more, of the later books in the Radovan/Varian series. When Opparal becomes a key character.

That said, I'm sure from an authorial perspective, the two 'L' words was a big factor. And from a Watsonian perspective, propaganda is propaganda. It doesn't have to be accurate.

The analogy I would draw is that the positive integers are infinite, but in some sort of hypothetical "elemental plane of numbers" if someone started taking huge quantities of prime numbers then some math-elemental would get annoyed at that and want to fix the situation.

Like just because there's no shortage of water in the elemental plane of water doesn't mean that somebody liked the water you took and would like to replace it.

I prefer Perpdepg's solution of celestial NIMBYs. It's nice to know pettiness isn't a uniquely human trait.

Maybe do that or find another game.

TR_Merc wrote:

To be honest, it doesn't seem you know the rules that well either at this point.

By now you have:

1. Been told how your DM rules it
2. Run to the internet in hopes of being supported against your DM
3. Not been supported the way you hoped
4. Argued again about what the rules as written mean
5. Belittled your DMs knowledge of the rules, despite it being evident that your own knowledge is no better

At this point, if I was your DM and even tangentially aware of this thread, I'd boot you as too much effort and move on with my game without you.

What are you trying to prove?
Why are you trying to prove it?
What can't you accept that your interpretation isn't widely accepted?
What do you hope to get out of this?
Why are you playing with someone if you feel the need to pull this nonsense against them?
Do you want to not be allowed to play anymore because your DM feels you're needlessly argumentative?
Is that worth continuing to argue a point that nobody supports you in?

No it isn't.

Urgir is Koldukar. The Hold is a much, much bigger place.

Details of what's under Urgir have been covered in depth (pardon the pun) in the adventures of Eando Kline as covered in his collected Journals: The Compass Stone. These are serialised in RoTR, CoCT and 2nd Darkness.

Chapters 9 (Thin Air) to 16 (City of Serpents) relate to Belkzen and the world below it.

Where are you getting the idea that all games operate at your level of magic availability or familiarity?

Was there something I missed in the OP?

I don't see how this is complicated - Detect Poison pings on everything that is designated as "poison", by use of that game term. If the word "poison" doesn't appear in the description (or the description of anything referenced), it's not poison.

I'm going to end up being that dude who won't drop the PF Tales line, but in at least one PF Tales novel (Liar's Island) they go mad if away from their master for too long and become dangerously aggressive. In that case, it was homunculi and mandragoras who were deliberately sealed away to defend a place in the specific knowledge that this would happen.

At least one of the Tales line states that alcohol would ping Detect Poison (one of the Gantier brothers stories).

Do with this information what you will.

That's a shame. Maybe I should introduce you to my Tyrant's Grasp character, Kaius Ironstaff. He's often demanded the surrender of his enemies, or offered them the chance to quit while they are ahead. Why? He's just so damn old that its a little boring to engage in fisticuffs with the help and takes so much effort to settle disagreements with your fists. But if you are really eager to learn the hard way, well, he'll roll up his long sleeves and show you the meaning of "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was."

That's lovely and all. But he's still just bragging about how boring it is to engage unless he's also Kaius - Lord of the Metagame.

Unless you're only referring to the multitude of nameless mooks. In which case, where did he keep them all between combats and how did he prevent what is basically a mook-swarm?

When penalties don't stack they normally overlap, but for that to have a significant effect you need to have penalties that affect the same thing.

If you have an effect that penalizes saves and one that penalizes AC, the save penalty overlap on the N/A save effect of the ability that affect AC, and the AC penalty overlap on the N/A AC effect of the ability that penalizes the saves.

1. What on earth are you trying to say here?

2. What is the rules basis for a "N/A" effect?

There are some really cool other naming conventions in Africa which could be nice to look into, such as day-names.

This actually came up in my game (for future plans for a PC who wants to become a god). I'm just going to pick my top 3 fetch quests and go for it.

Might specifically go for high level stuff.

The Third Riddle is insultingly low level for being a third of the way to deityhood.

Breathing a little harder than normal but unless you're very sensitive this isn't a problem. A local peak just squeaks in over that, I've been up there several times. I've been above 12k without acclimatization once, and just under it two more times. With three days of acclimatization I've been to 18k--this is too fast and not advised, most of our group had to turn back. I'm not a mountaineer, just a hiker who likes mountains and other than that one trip to 18k (supposed to be 19k but we got stopped by conditions) every such venture into high altitude started from a normal US suburban location.

If one of your biggest concerns is that PF1E has been written in the way it has for over a decade I'm not sure the rules forum for that edition is the place for you.

Particularly when you refuse to actually explain what your issue is aside from the rules being shared between PCs and NPCs, which is a principle of the edition.

Following on from the Alchemist Fire thread, but separate enough to warrant its own:

If I use an Arrow of Slaying, or a Bane Arrow, for a specific species as an improvised melee weapon instead of as ammunition for a bow, does it still get the benefits slaying or bane properties?

What if it's used as an improvised thrown weapon?

Assume the user has Catch-Off Guard, Throw Anything, and Improvised Weapon Mastery for the purposes of this discussion.

Honestly, after re-reading Bloodbound by Wes over the weekend, I can see a fringe sect of Pharasma doing this on the sneaky.

However, I can't believe your party only has one big red button pusher.

My group has 3 of them who would do it for different reasons and one who might do it in pursuit of knowledge if he felt at the time that the benefits outweighed the risks.

I was actually gonna pop my head in and suggest an artifact.

Although, if you're going full cinematic on this, what's to stop the Paladin's deity from spreading their arms protectively over the Paladin and a choir of holy angels, or agathions or whatever floats his particular boat from singing in beautiful chorus and spaking unto him that while [DEITY] cannot (or won't, gods are weird) interfere more directly, his noble sacrifice has been noted and [DEITY] will see to it that he cannot fall until such time as his sacrifice will be guaranteed not to be in vein. Or something.

Is there a cleric of his deity in the village or some other way that an artifact that grants super-mega-deathless could be believably pressed into his hands? Heck even throw in Freedom of Movement and a couple of other spells to prevent other ways of being taken out. Or something.

Or maybe his blood hits the torch from an early strike and it starts to glow in the colours special to his deity, spreading divine empowerment in a 20' radius. Or something.

By something like this, the paladin can learn that he is definitely going to die, but he is going to die as a true champion of his faith. This is his first miracle on the road to sainthood.

Crown's End in Sargava is mentioned as having an arena in Beyond the Pool of Stars by Howard Andrew Jones.

I'm not sure what has happened to it with the transition to Vidrian as an entity, but it was definitely there.
