But this may be 95% based in my current aggravation about map issues.
100 % agree here. My main(almost only) aggravation with paizo(and others) products is map issues. More battle maps of locations featured in the adventures would go a long way toward making me a much happier customer. And all the reasons(or excuses) that have been presented as to why they cant(or wont) have not convinced me.
Now I do love a lot about Paizo, and sometimes that does not come through in my rants, so I would just like to state here, that Paizo is wonderful at answering questions and responding to their customers wants ... just does not seem like it on the map issue ... although there is a promising new development in Dragons Demand ...

I honestly don't see the point of battlemaps inside the AP. As additional electronic maps? Yes, i see the point in that, but why would you put them inside the book? You wont be using them out of the book, the most probable thing will be that you will photocopy or scan and print them.
I've been hoping for battlemaps for a long time, but I dont mean bound into the book. I mean the way WotC do it - a poster map or two included in the book's cover.

I would prefer for the AP Map Folios to be revamped into battle maps of key locations instead of regional maps that are not that much use to me. For me Battle maps will always be more useful ...
How they make them or how they may or may not be included in the books, or separate products is not important to me ... I just want them made so I do not have to spend the time to make them myself ... and I am not good at it.

Folks will note that we're now including a battle mat poster in our modules line. We're watching closely to see how folks and sales react!
Well, I'm hoping they'll all be as happy as I am. One can never have enough maps. I loved getting them with the comics, and I love getting them in the modules now.
It's a shame some of the smaller ones don't work well together, but really, that's a very minor quibble.

Personally, I don't read the fiction. The only exception were those in Carrion Crown; everything else I've not read (past maybe the first page or so). I'd rather see something else there, as well. I'm not opposed to the fiction if there's nothing else that would go there--it seems to has its fans--but I'd be happy to see another option explored.

I actually think that the battlemap in Dragon's Demand is pretty lame.
It is a small, boring area with little sense of dynamic terrain in the cartography.
To each his own, but I beg to differ.
First, given that it's the location of some pivotal events in the story, it was the logical choice as a battlemap.
Second, no similar map exists—the amphitheater has six tiers of varying height, chairs, two enclosed performer huts on the stage, and four sets of stairs. It's generic enough that a GM could re-use it for other adventures, but unique enough to make for an interesting combat.
As for the size, I created its dimensions to the limit a twice-folded book insert would allow.
Suggestions for clever alternatives or improvements, of course, are always welcome.

Yeah location that was chosen is not what I would have went for
My guess why this location is used is because a) something dramatic/important happens there, and b) it fits on a poster map at 1" scale. That battlemap has to fit on the poster and that limits what they can put on it.

EDIT: Or, y'know, what Mike said. :p

I love the idea of the new battle map in the module line, although in this particular case I would have liked the map to cover at least a street around the amphitheater seeing as how this is such a big encounter with a lot going on. I also love when the AP's use maps from the flip map line, I think there is a great synergy there.
I agree you can never have enough maps.

And by doing this, you've increased the number of maps you produce by a third again! I approve :)

At first glance it's similar to the auditorium in Map Pack: Magic Academy, but this one will be far more generally useful, I think.
