"Breaks the Rules" question - Formatting

Star Voter Season 6

Just wanted to check something. Is there a preference by the judges as to flagging something for formatting?

I've voted for some items and I've noticed that there might be instances where certains words aren't bolded as appropriate, or the title of the item isn't in the main submission, etc. Often times on the boards we'll see posts of how the judges overlook these "smaller" issues if the item is truly good otherwise. Should we as voters be doing that as well?

I only ask because I don't necessarily want to send a bunch of items to the judges for review just for formatting issues if the judge is just gonna say that's fine and let the item back in. This would negate the whole point of the voting, as far as saving time, etc.

And on a side note, REALLY digging this initial voting decision for RPGSS2013. This is making the whole contest feel a lot more involved this time around, like I have even more of a stake in it. Kudos to you Paizo!

You should really only flag if it actually breaks the rules. We think we have already removed the majority of the rules-breaking items from consideration. The flagging link is more of a belts-and-suspenders thing.

Missing a bold tag or not italicizing a spell isn't breaking the rules. Going over 300 words, or posting "Harry Potter's Wand of Wanding", or submitting a GURPS item or something is what we're looking for here.

Excellent, thanks for the response! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Do items that do no contain the title in the body of the text violate the rules? I was under the impression this was the case.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If adding the title into the body of the text makes it go over 300 words, then yeah that's a rule breaker. Otherwise, it's just kind of sloppy and should be taken into consideration when voting but it's not flag-worthy.

What about cursed items, such as items that require a will save to dispose of? Are they things I should vote against, or report?

Designer, RPG Superstar Judge

It's ok to flag a cursed item.

If I recall, items that are over 200,000gp should also be flagged, because they're artifact territory, not magic items. Right?

Paizo Employee Developer

That's not a rule that's expressly stated anywhere, but it is true that the most expensive wondrous item has a price of 200,000 gp and artifacts don't have prices. So it's not automatically an artifact if it's worth more than that, but it is certainly something to consider when voting.

Hmm, well I flagged one item for being well over 350,000gp. I'm going to stand by that one. ;)

So far, I've flagged four items. :/
