I don't mix European and Oriental classes either, just me. They advised against it when they released the original Oriental Adventures and I have stuck to it since.
you can always reflavor the "Oriental" classes to be more "European" or the "European" classes to be more "Oriental"
the classes are merely mechanical packages, and there is literally very little difference between a rogue and a ninja, a cavalier and a samurai, or a feng shui master and a druid.
so yes, with a bit of reskinning, you can easily mix eastern and western classes. hell, most of them bleed over into each other.
a Wakazashi could easily serve as the mechanical stand in for a sabre, and a scimitar, a stand in for the Jian.
Gygax, who wrote first edition, was a hardcore fan of mixing east and west. he included a shaolin monk class in the players handbook with the paladin and druid.

@fitzwalrus
actually you do not want to fire with cannon too much. you never know which part of the opposition's cargo you might damage/spill (yes, overly realistic). shoot some barrels of rum... ouch, major fire hazard. Rip apart those fine silks, Split open the bags of pepper and other spices. Trash the porcelain... Hey, even kill the enemy crew/potential slaves. But yes, they add flash and bangˆˆ
It also perfectly eludes me, why cannon fire should be so much more useful than having a flying/mounted caster striking the enemy ship without chance of a miss, in precisely the indicated spot, usually with a spell designed for maximum carnage in that area.
Cannons in Morgan's and Bartholomew's age where more intended for intimidation, unless one actually encountered a warship. Which often ended very badly for the pirates - perhaps less so in their hometurf, the Shackles....where they have facilities for repair
Our finalparty consisted of :
Tiefling fighter/rogue 8th/6th (raised once)
Tiefling Witch 15th
Rosie fighter/Bard (street performer) 1/14th
HalfElf bard/fighter/Arcane Archer 2/5/8
Human Wizard/Oracle of Life/Mystic Theurge 3/4/8
Although with a much changed final three AP paths. Everybody stuck to his "piracy" concept", nothing too exotic racewise or gunslingery. Noone actually wanted guns, though some were left lying about. The only "gun" they had was a limited shots sonic projector (weighing over a ton), which they used mostly to criple ships or blatt through obstacles

Me: Kain Silverforge - Half-Chelaxian Half-Varisian Human Fighter 3 (Two Weapon Warrior)
Chaotic Neutral-Chaotic Evil (True Chaotic, as I like to call it) : A man who acts on a whim, with a craving for violence and reasons to throw the shackles in chaos underneath his boots. Doesn't care for chelaxians in the least, and goes out of his way to insult them. Replaced Aedric.
"Dr. Genzo": Jasmine Hondo - Kitsune Rogue 2, Fighter 1
Chaotic Neutral : Kitsunes are a strange breed, especially in our version of Golarion, where their moralities tend to fall upon the blue and orange spectrum. Has gone out of the way to administer a roofie to a crew member and take her away. Sorta follows the party around as a source of entertainment.
"Darth": Rosa - Cheliaxian(?) Human Sorcerer (Draconic) 3
Lawful Neutral : Captain of the ship, though not of her own right, a former maid of a nobleman of some place. Due to GM meddling, found said nobleman dead on Bonewrack isle in place of more generic critters. Probably the most well liked of the party amongst the crew.
"Willow": Meepo - Kobold Cleric 3
? Neutral : A neutral cleric of some god that drowns people, over 500 years old, after being trapped in a well. Generally a nice guy, though has done some very vicious things behind closed doors, such as channeling negative energy into the heads of an ambush of people that didn't like us. Certainly most liked of the party members amongst themselves
Former Characters:
Me: Aedric - Sylph Alchemist 2
Chaotic Good- Chaotic Neutral : the catalyst for many events upon the wormwood, more than Rosa and her player would like to admit. A lover of freedom of choice and a dislike for staying in one place. Lost a lover in the pillaging of a town by pirates. Came to wipe the ship of hostile NPCs in a single encounter, with some help from the cleric, the night before the storm in an attempt to initiate his own mutiny. Turned down the spot of captain in an attempt to take place as first mate to keep whoever became captain in check, due to a general opinion of him as being volatile.

PC crew of the Foxfire:
Bertrand: M Saltbeard Dwarf Fighter 4
LeSay: M Elf Rogue 1/Admixture Evoker 3
Mo: F Human Ranger 4 - Archery focused
Nitsiu: M Kitsune Sorcerer 2/Summoner 2 (our new captain) Died
Pari: F Undine Cleric of Besmara 4
Ranyan the Kind: M Human Bard 4 Player left. It's been a hoot! No deaths yet, but lots of close calls with folks in the negs, at times.
Had 2 replacements.
Now, it's:
Bertrand: M Saltbeard Dwarf Fighter 7
LeSay: M Elf Rogue 1/Admixture Evoker 5/Arcane Trickster 1
Mo: F Human Ranger 7 - Archery focused
Pari: F Undine Cleric of Besmara 7
Reiko: F Kitsune Oracle 7 - Mother of Nitsiu
Unnamed new person F Cat Person Rogue 1/Bard 5/Shadowdancer 1
We've moved from a patriarchy to a matriarchy! Pari's the captain, and this is the first party I think I ever played in where the female characters outnumbered the males.
Players are 3 men and 3 women. We all enjoy the humor of the game, and there are plenty of tense moments, too. S&S is a fun ride! :)

Paladin of Baha-who? |

Running a family game for my wife, girlfriend (we're poly) two daughters and a son. We're at level 2 but about to be level 3.
Wife's character: Homebrew race called Jungle Pixies that are tiny sized with wings, but don't resemble normal pixies pretty much at all. Playing a witch. Having fun riding her Osprey familiar (reskinned hawk bumped up to Small size) around while shooting crossbows and casting hexes on people.
GF's character: Kitsune Ninja, houseruled to allow the Kitsune trickster archetype to replace Poison use and No Trace. Using dervish dance and having lots of fun, heading for shadowdancer prestige class in a few levels.
Daughter E: Undine Oracle/Rogue (Rogue dip 1st level for her background before being chosen as an oracle) - plays being the daughter of a human woman and a Marid she's never met. Having fun using water-based abilities, and sneak attacking through fog, mist, and rain.
Daughter K: Catfolk Druid with a tiger animal companion, mostly melee-focused, greatly anticipating being able to wild shape soonish.
Son: Sorceror/Trapper ranger, heading for Dragon disciple. Sometimes he wields the Boarding Pike of Repelling, and sometimes he tears into things with his claws, and sometimes he casts spells. He likes having a variety of things to do, but all of them involve violence :D
This is far from an optimized party, but they're having lots of fun, and that's what counts eh?

Captain Siorcan - F Human CN Shark Shaman Druid 4. Really paranoid about losing crew, because the people closest to her have a tendency to die (both in her backstory and during the campaign). Didn't want to be the captain, she just wanted to go back to being a regular sailor on a merchant ship. Is incredibly rash, and gained respect from the crew by the sheer number of times she did something that was clearly suicidal, and came out on top. Is the best sailor of the bunch. Has a pet shark that is brilliant (for a shark), and judges everything based on how tasty it is.
Halbarad Derygis - M Half-elf NE Rogue 4. The smooth talker of the group. Has a very romanticized view of piracy, and is in it for the glory. Considers himself to be very sly and quite the ladies man. Nominated Siorcan as Captain, and then took position as First Mate.
Tyr - M Human NE Gunslinger 4. Ill-tempered, and seldom speaks. Has a lust for violence, but the rest of the party has earned his respect in combat. Often plays the role of enforcer, and tends to get carried away if left to his own devices.
The Weatherwitch - F Elf CN Stormborn Sorcerer 4. Despite her high charisma, the Weatherwitch is completely inept at reading social situations, relying solely on her good looks and natural likeability to get by. She has no experience with sailing or ships, and thus is as much a hindrance as a help in running the ship. Has bonded with Elin due to her having a familiar.
Elin - F Half-elf CN Oracle of Lore 4. Drifter who is keenly interested in collecting knowledge and stories. Has a raven familiar that is fascinated by Siorcan's shark companion, and is the object of The Weatherwitch's fascination. Has a tendency to be left in charge of the crew while the rest of the party charges forth. As a result, we have had to teach the crew basic Aquan, as Elin only speaks Aquan in battle.

Our Party (halfway through Tempest Rising searching the spy):
Captain Sandara Quinn (meanwhile lvl 5 cleric). The Party and I agreed to have the PC take on the NPC after her original character (a halfling Rouge - the cook and helping Hand of Ambrose) was swalloed in one gulp from the devilfish in the caverns in Wormwood mutiny. After the mutiny, the PCs collaborativly agreed to make Sandara the new captain as she was the best sailor.
The other crewmember are:
Queepeg, male human barbarian 5. He got pirate-like married to Lady Smithee.
Wiski, female catfolk ranger (freebooter)5. Of course, she beats everbody on climbing the masts. As most cats, she´s a Coward and tends to climb as high as possible pempering foes with arrows and insults.
Xhu-Hu, male human ninjy 5. He is no Tian but was raised as one. He is a perfect Acrobat and killer and just recently is playing around with his alchemy lab - but not always to full success...
The we have two Undine Brothers, one water-druid 5 and one sorcerer 5 with the aquatic bloodline.

We just finished price of infamy tonight, our party is:
Babashk Fade-caller, NE mwangi juju oracle 13
Many of the named villains have spent time as her undead servitors. She harassed Barnabas for many weeks with daily doses of the nightmare spell, and has begun to do the same to Captain Bonefist. Shes a passable sailor and a shrewd negotiator. When all else fails, she fills opponents with the fires driven by her blackened curse. She's been selling "zombie" slaves for some time. Subjecting defeated pirate crews to her charms and dominations, and turning a profit selling them to other captains with low morale standing.
Erevan Ilesere, CN half-elf rogue 3/wizard (dweomerden) 3/arcane trickster 7
Erevan is a born liar. He'll wiggle every inch that he can out of deals that he makes. He picked up magic more just to make his life easier on seas, but it has become an extension of him. Many have died to the unseen forces that he has wrought on them. Now that he is no longer just a dabbler, he has taken to hunting down other mages to expand his spellbooks. Currently the most skilled sailor on the Harlot Queen, he looks to pass the title of acting captain away asap (our captain was brutally murdered by Barnabas tonight). His time is already drawn thin with running an tavern in Hell Harbor, and an inn and thieves' guild in Port Peril.
Melaku, LN garundi fighter (brawler) 4/monk (drunken master) 9
Not one to pass up a tavern, Melaku has led us to many a dangerous evenings. Unfortunately, he's apt to give his word while drunk, but the demands to keep it once he's sobered up. Many times this his put him at odds with other members in the party, but through bribery and a solid fist he breaks even on getting them to see his way. Melaku is an apt sailor, but is lazy. He enjoys life at the sea, but more as a guest than a crewman. He has to purchase his own rum rations for any expedition.
Juju Barnabas
Thats right! we where not content to let this bastard just die. Now he is just the latest in Bebashk's stable of undead flesh. I look forward to the roleplay that will come from this.
Our fourth player, who's character was butchered beyond recognition (Kazmus, saltbeard dwarf fighter 5/inner sea pirate 7), will be rolling another character and joining us again tomorrow, and I'll get his character posted then. We're trying to hammer in as much as we can before college starts back up.

Brian Bachman |

Just started. One of the more "unique" parties for our pretty conservative group. I'm playing this time rather than GMing, and we're having fun. Here's our lineup:
Bron "Cookie" - NG Human Inquisitor, a former slave who has vowed vengeance on all slavers and slave-owners. For some reason chosen as cook, and instantly became very popular in crew with an outstanding and lucky success making "rat stew". Morally conflicted about being a pirate, and will likely push group toward targeting only those who "deserve it".
Viviana "Bluelocks" - CG Gnome Summoner with a toothy amphibious eidolon. Icky the Eidolon has been very useful and will probably eventually be our best melee combatant.
Ryan "Ragdoll" - N Human Wizard Scrollmaster. Mostly has distinguished himself thus far by getting knocked unconscious repeatedly, both in melee and from punishment.
Ripley "Frogface" - CG Grippli Gunslinger. Fire support and occasional creative tongue deployment.
Vivanca "Swimmy Elfy" - CN Aquatic Elf Bard. Most dextrous party member. Bit of a showoff and good sailor. Not known for her courage.
Kriton "Magoo" - N Human Magus. Strongest member of party and currently best melee combatant.
Gordon "Doodad" - N Human Druid. Still hasn't chosen an animal companion.
Haven't mutinied yet, so no captain chosen. I think Bron, Vivanca and Kriton may all want it.
Party is heavy on spellchuckers, and will probably eventually be pretty potent, but still learning to work well together. Weak in healing and melee power, but that will likely improve rapidly with levels.

I am GMing this party...(25 Pt buy, all Pathfinder and 3.5 Sourcebooks allowed with GM approval)
Monk (Evil):Has taken a Vow of poverty (exalted re-flavored as Vile) and instead of exalted feats allowed access to style feats.
Sorcerer (Aquatic): A Ladies man, got into a fight and almost died fighting a Hobgoblin in session 0 when he refused to stop "poking the bear".
Ranger (Archer): Weak willed, but strong in heart, Hates water Elementals. Only good aligned player I have.
Rogue (Pirate): Through the background generator it turns out he is a Child of the Hurricane King himself and Old lover to Duvaria Thune.
Session 0 was a month ago, I ran them through Hangman's Noose in order to give me my fix of horror and undead before starting down the pirate journey. I was suprised that no one wanted to be anything other than a core race/class. None of my players are interested in being captain either; kinda curious to see what happens.

I'm gming this level 2 party in my ''Serpent's Skull and Shark's Shackles'' E6 ''lower magic''sandbox. After 8 sessions the finally finished Smuggler's Shiv and are now on the Wormwood.
My party consist of (sorry, french here):
Bernard le barbare (Bernard the Barbarian)(Human Barbarian 2): A human of great strength, but simple of mind. His motives are simple: gold, women and alcohol. He is a great cook and eat almost everything edible (Cook).
Les jumeaux Ratpine (The Ratpine Twin) :
Yl Ratpine (could translate as: He plunder)(Ratfolk Rogue [Pirate] 2): Wise little bastard with a sharp tongue. He is playing the dating agency of Bernard. Motivated by gold and fame. A jack-of-all-trade, loved by almost everyone (Rigger).
El Ratpine (could translate as: She plunder)(Ratfolk Witch [Gravewalker] 2): Evil little witch, using his brother to hide herself. She is power hungry and is looking why the magic became scarce and weak. She is loathed by everyone on the Wormwood and would be dead if her brother didn't intervened. (Swab)

Zaister |
My campaign's cast of characters looks like this:
Odilia Glenharrow: female half-orc inquisitor of Besmara form Little Oppara
Nestor Rezha: male human stormborn sorcerer from Taldor
Genar Ulver: male human oracle of battle (origin yet unknown)
Kalthor: male half-elf fighter from Ilizmagorti, wants to becom a Red Mantis assassin

We are starting soon, today we formed our party (I'm GM).
-LN male human garundi monk (four winds/qinggong). Learned his ways from old Ghol-Ghani plaques, and is out for more.
-CN male human chelish rogue (pirate). Well-aged washed-up pirate, who has been continually drunk for late few years.
-CN male human varisian fighter (cad). Man from Riddleport, who escaped his bad reputation to souther climate. Plans to take levels in Shadowdancer.
-N? male half-orc mwangi druid (packmaster). Half-orc from deepst jungles, he dreams in battles and discipline and commands birds of prey. Bit bitey.
Names and deeper backstories are still work in progress, but We're staring soon, so not for long!

What's exotic in some place like the Shackles ?
They have "native" populations of Halflings (local and "imported" ), Tengu, Sylphs, probably Undines, Elves (and I suppose Half Elves), Half Orcs, Humans (of various ethnic backgrounds) and are a pretty good place for disenfranchised exiles. Tieflings (of Chelian origins) should be present in fair numbers ?And having played through this AP with a night-blind Halfling, I can only state that frequent fights in the dark (say in AP#2 and AP#4) are a real bother, and I understand people don't like that disadvantage at all- picking half-whatevers.

Angry Wiggles RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32 |

We're just about to wrap up the first book, and so far all is well.
The party consists of
Half-Orc Barbarian - Self designated chef of the party, he has so far cooked every non-toxic, non-humanoid enemy they have slain to serve to his crew mates and reacted so poorly to the first bloody hour that Scourge ended up thrown off the boat and both he and the monk were sentenced to keelhauling on their second day sailing.
Human Sea Singer Bard - Raised on watered down and glorified pirate stories, and still considered by the rest of the party to be a child, she has undergone many a rude awakening so far, but has been spared the brunt of it by the combined efforts of the rest of the party.
Sylph Hexcrafter Magus - This character has spent so much of her life drunk that she has forgotten the real names of most wild species, instead referring to the majority of them as "mah octopus". Wildly delusional, she somehow became the de facto leader of the party.
Aasimar Maneuver Master Monk - Disapproving of both whipping and outright slaughter, his reaction to most combat has been to throw his opponent off of the boat, and fish them back up after they've apologized. He has spent almost the whole book searching for more crabs for Owlbear.
Vanara Gunslinger - One of the best riggers and thieves on the boat, she has a tendency to miss a disproportionate amount before confirming a crit at the first sign of a genuinely tough enemy.
Halfling Heavens Oracle - Generally reserved, she is adamantly anti-slavery and managed to shut down almost the entirety of the Man's Promise with well-placed Color Sprays

I don't think so in this case. The player is actually a fairly talented pastry chef, and finds the idea of making sushi out of reefclaws, sharks, and giant eels fun.

Aerodus Baradin, The Dawnlord |

My group tends to stick to historical accuracy whenever we have the chance to, and two of is are amateur pirate historians, so we chose to follow the hierarchy of actual pirate ships. Thus, are ranks are a bit different.
The Burning Maiden has nine officers, three of them being NPCs. I'll list them in order of authority.
Captain Aeyras "The Hangman" Dawncrest is our Captain, as the name would suggest. He's a Half-Elf Sea Singer Bard with a monkey familiar called Caspian. He's a bit like Captain Barbossa in personality and he likes to use animate rope similar to how Blackbeard used the rigging of his ship in On Stranger Tides. He earned his nickname from his habit of hanging enemy captains from the top mast by the neck as a sign of victory and intimidation for prey. He is from Quent, home of Captain Tessa Fairwind.
Alizra "Trigger" Odair is the Half-Elf Pirate Rogue Quartermaster and her authority is second only to the Captain, of whom she has a begrudging but ultimately loyal respect. She runs the deck through Intimidation and is a harsh taskmaster. A fervent enemy of Cheliax and any who partake in slave trade, she earned her nickname from her affinity for flintlock pistols. She's taken a fond liking to Owlbear, who assists her in rationing pay, rum, and plunder. She also has an otter that she keeps for companionship.
Char'olin is the Drow Daredevil Bard boatswain. She has shared little of her past with the crew, but has proved to be loyal to Captain Dawncrest. She favors the use of a cat-o'-nine-tails and whip when running the main deck, and her punishments are only dwarfed by those of the Quartermaster.
Skender "Crow" Tranith is the Varisian Cad Fighter Master Gunner. He's the least experienced sailor, having acted only as a hired deckhand and mercenary prior to being press-ganged by Harrigan. He is a skilled cannoneer, however, and is stronger than anyone on the ship, wielding dual cutlasses with cruel skill. He never leaves an enemy alive if he can help it, and his cannons have seen the demise of two ships thus far.
Vors Pomek is the Taldan Mysterious Stranger Gunslinger Sailing Master and Navigator. He's a quiet sort who befriended Fishguts when he was assigned to be the cook's mate. He's a skilled sailor and navigator, knowing the waters of the Fever Sea almost as well as the Captain. He wields dual flintlocks and abhors melee combat, but he carries a brass knife as a last resort. He is a devout worshiper of Besmara.
Ciran Fendrall is the Gnome Oracle of Waves Surgeon and Carpenter. Apart from his skill with a carpenter's saw, he is adept at the use of a harpoon to grapple enemies. He has demonstrated his magical ability, but has yet to give much evidence of being an Oracle.
Sandara Quinn is the Chaplain and assists Ciran with surgery if she's needed. She finds the new ship much more exciting than many of the ships she's served on, and respects Captain Dawncrest for his boldness and leadership ability.
Crimson "Cog" Cogward is the Gunner's Mate. He shares a cultural brotherhood with Crow and respects him for his fighting ability. Although initially unsure of Captain Dawncrest and the Quartermaster, they have proved their worth in battle since the mutiny.
Rosie Cusswell is the Master's Mate. She was glad to be given authority over Conchobar Shortstone and she respects Vors for his sailing and navigational ability. She often plays her fiddle while the boatswain dances or the Captain relays one of his many pirate tales or sings a sea shanty.

Icehawk |

We've certainly gone through our party... I present to you, the magical place known as Poseur Pirate Party Land.
Current party consists of:
Human Seasinger Bard 7: Current captain, bit of a coward and takes the backseat. Party face, if under protest. Last surviving member of the original Wormwood group.
Human Fighter 7: Typical twohanded fighter who is also the Master Gunner. Most likely to succeed if (when) the current captain kicks the bucket.
Half-Elf (Drow) Summoner 7: Current quartermaster, while the Eidolon is the pilot. Originally cabin girl of one of the slave ships that sail the Sekamina enormous lake thing before escaping. Ended up instantly made quartermaster after saving the party at Tidewater Rock from unpleasent events that claimed lives.
Orc Scarred Witchdoctor 7: Teleported in due to unknown circumstances and was made by the current captain immediatly into an officer. Was demoted after awkward circumstances involving charm person and a bar fight in a certain port and lightning bolting through the ship.
Merfolk Ranger 7: Sister to the previous merfolk. Much like the predecessor, has permanently made everyone in the Shackles dislike us by extension.
Fatalities/Retirements:
Tiefling Spellslinger 5/Soulstealer 1: Original Captain and cultist of the Horseman of War. Vicious, and definetly not party face, was killed by a random encounter by Sea Ogres.
Human Rogue 1: Didn't make it off the Wormwood. Wasn't liked by a couple people. Guess who and what.
Half-Orc Antipaladin of Gorum 4: Retired and wandered off into the woods. Was part of reason Tiefling was captain since was the only one the Antipaladin respected.
Merfolk Fighter 3: Eaten by a Giant Eel.
Catfolk Ancestor Oracle 6: Sea Ogres random encounter.
Ifrit Gunslinger 6: Within a minute of encountering the party, got in a fight with the captain spellslinger, who promptly knocked out the Ifrit, took their stuff and set them ashore in an alley with naught but their clothes. Shortest pc intro to "retirement" since the pixie punting event 14 years ago.
Human Shadowcaster 5: Killed by spellcasting familiars/summons during unpleasant events at Tidewater Rock.
Human Gunslinger 5: Drowned during unpleasent events at Tidewater Rock.
At the moment, none of the original npcs are on the ship anymore due to the high turn over rate of officers, dislike of the new captains cowardice and the promotion of new pcs out of the blue and various tomfoolery that occured last session. Indeed some of the current pcs are ready to walk as well. My name for the campaign originating from the general feeling of incompetence and of course no one taking us seriously/insulting us/looking down on us cus merfolk.

Archangel_Crow |
I'm going to be running this sometime soon when the first part of the adventure gets in, I've got a party of 3 and me. Using a combination of D&D and Pathfinder, it is the style I am actually most accustomed to.
Me a merfolk (strongtailed alternate racial feature) Sorcerer (air elemental bloodline) using words of power instead of normal spellcasting
a succubus (using savage species racial breakdown) who will eventually become a swashbuckler, or a rogue with the pirate archtype (friend)
elf (not sure what type yet) fighter, he'll either be using a bow or two daggers (friend)
and a human alchemist ragechemist named Dr. Llekej (little brother)

Captain Sakhbet "The Sandman" |

Going to TRY to keep this short.
Alianora Faebloom: CN drow fighter 1/rogue 5/Shadow Dancer 1 [Let's spin the alignment roulette]
A drow who found her way up to the surface, Ali was rounded up and tossed into the Wormwood, though nobody really knew what she was. She has since become the quartermaster of The Endless Hunger. Alianora is deceitful, often randomly acting a different alignment to keep her real capabilities a mystery from everyone. Only the captain knows the truth.
Gareth Solomon: CN human gunslinger 7 ['Sup, b!%@*es.]
The most honest follower of the pirate life, Gareth came to join the crew by willingly seeking them out. Since joining, he's become the ship's master gunner and cannon-craft. Though handsome, Gareth's crude, overly insensitive personality makes him a casanova wannabe, but does not stop him from being a very capable marksman and pirate.
Maxime "The Galtman" Constant: CG human rogue 3/gunslinger 4 [The fourth wall is a toy]
Over-the-top, comedic, and theatrical, Maxime came to the ship under equally unbelievable circumstances (launched from somewhere far off in a barrel). He entertained the captain and showed himself to be dangerous, earning his life. Max lives for the moment more than anything.
Malvolio Sharma: N undine witch 7 [It's healing time]
Mr. Sharma prefers to disguise himself to prevent others discovering he is an undine. He has masterful at bluffing his way through situations and loves to use his magic, but is also very reserved. Sharma has been in three other ships previously, all of them shipwrecked, and he hopes this won't share the same fate as the others.
Captain "Bad Gas" Sakhbet: NE Osirian human alchemist 6/rogue 1 [You pulled the wrong lever]
Ruthless, ambitious, and capable of great acts of cruelty, Sakhbet nevertheless does nothing without a reason that benefits him. He maintains loyalty in his ship, The Endless Hunger, by regularly hosting feasts and providing regular, extensive medical care to all crew members so they can indulge in whatever they want without fear. A cannibal, scientist, and worshiper of Urgathoa, Sakhbet wants to become Hurricane King of the Shackles but hopes to achieve far more than just that.
Previous Members
Ryunai: NG kitsune druid 4 [Tasted delicious]
Became captain of the second ship in the fleet, The Acheron. Attempted mutiny against the crew of The Endless Hunger. Was assassinated by Alianora, then skinned, cooked, and eaten by the captain, her head and heart mounted on the ship's figurehead, the Pale Mistress. Her pelt is now lines a +1 leather armor. (There was some drama behind the scenes in this that I won't get into.)
Vicnan Trickfoot: CE halfling aquatic sorcerer 6 [I'm still here, guys]
Not gone, but player is currently unavailable. Vicnan will re-enter the fray once things settle, but for now serves as one of the crew's spellcasters in the background.
Ssardan: CE kobold barbarian 4 [OM NOM NOM]
Became part of the backdrop crew when Gareth's player decided to reroll. Still doles out punishment and intimidation in spades as the Hunger's boatswain.

All in all, once I went down it basically was over then and there. Usually my deaths happen after I've saved the party, or mostly saved them, died, then saved them again with the next one. This time I went down instantly so there just wasn't anything to help them. So we all died horribly, and now we're playing Shattered Star.
Oh and I forgot, the second Merfolk died to uh...

Haladir |

Our Skull & Shackles crew consists of:
Xelia, captain. CN Female human (Garundi) fighter.
Del Burblesquall, first mate. CN female gnome sorceress (elemental [water] bloodline) (My character!)
Tom, boatswain. CG male human rogue (swashbuckler archetype).
Markus, quartermaster. LN male human monk (drunken master).
Pip, navigator. CN male halfling rogue.
(Oh, we promoted Sandara Quinn as an officer, too-- she's both the chaplain and ship's surgeon.)
(Everyone has a last name, but I don't remember what they are.)
We're just finishing up at Rickety's Squibbs, and are about to start our careers as actual pirates!

![]() |

Here's our band of pirates. We have only been on board the Wormwood for about three weeks and have no idea what is ahead for us.
I'll start with myself.
Sarev Grimm CN Human Male Inquisitor of Besmara (Preacher): I've been told I'm a nasty, loud-mouthed scoundrel. I'm very interested in getting my own ship one day and plundering the seas in Besmara's name, and I'm starting to get the idea that the Wormwood might make a fine starting vessel. Not a great charisma, but is able to use Wisdom for Bluff and Sense Motive (Heresy Inquisition), so he's functioning as the party face. Right now, I'm a swab. It's suits me just fine for the moment. It's easy work and leaves me lots of time to snoops and and ferret out some allies.
Amelia Pond N Female Elven Druid (Aquatic): Amelia is our cook's mate. She blanches every time she is expected to kill the sea turtles. She's been a pretty gods awful cook so far, but her spells have come in handy already so I suppose we'll keep her around. She has a jaguar companion. Yes, even though she is an aquatic druid(?). She says she can "switch" to a shark occasionally when she knows she going where 'Leafspot' can't go. She seems a little unstable if you ask me, but, hey, we're pirates. We've all got our issues.
Shorty (real name unknown) CN Male Halfling Sorcerer (Marid): Shorty is my fellow swab and a total waste of rum rations so far. Halflings just don't seem cut out for pirating. He is whipped almost every day for failing in his chores. I consider him an investment though. If I can keep him alive and allied long enough, maybe he'll prove useful eventually. I think he could the be pretty persuasive if it occurred to him to try. Unfortunately, he is too busy recovering from whippings to talk much to the crew. Plus, he isn't that bright, so he hasn't shown much skill at anything yet. Time will tell, and we can always throw him overboard later if we find a better wizard.
Chum (He says that's his real name) CN Male Human Barbarian (Drunken Rager): Chum's the opposite of Shorty in almost every way. He isn't much of a conversationalist and is almost never sober, but he's one hell of a pirate and I'm glad he's on my side. We've been in a few scuffles already and Chum is invaluable. He's been pretty easy to manipulate so far. Rum rations are a cheap way to secure an ally this powerful. I give him mine and most of the ones I win off the rest of the crew at night. As long as he keeps hitting what I point at, we're going to be 'friends' for a long time.

Oh my, oh my. We're halfway trough the second book, and things are looking good:
Captain Morian Grimmjoy CN human male rogue (pirate): Man with troubled past. Captain and the veteran of the sip, man closing forty years old is rough, silent but efficient captain with right words for right situations. Just recently he married Agasta Smythee and became the lord of the tidewater rock.
First mate Dario Crimwill CN human male fighter (cad): Varisian scoundrel, with big dreams and loud mouth. Very charismatic and likable, but moment you become his enemy he will kill you in a snap. Wields Plugg's magic sword, and will soon become a Shadowdancer.
Bosun Roku LN human male monk (qinggong/four winds): Big muscle of the group. Roku is big, strong and disciplined man who mainly is pirate because it gives him freedom to do whatever he wants-mainly search for the Ghol-Ghani ruins. Also very dangerous of made enemy with nasty habit of snapping necks and crushing trachea with fists of fire and lighting.
Quartermaster Mitaba N half-orc male druid (packmaster/reincarnated druid): Half-orc, half-mwangi, Mitaba is the free soul of the ship. Big, scary and hard-boiled man who does everything as good as possible, and dreams big of his future. Has a weak point for birds, and has two birds as his companions (Frigate bird and ara-parrot). Just recently got his Ankheg-skin armor and is very proud of it.

I'm running two simultaneous S&S campaigns as PBPs, and they've just gotten underway thus far. I have a feeling one party is going to be a bit more 'heroic' and the other a bit more, well, 'horrid'. They definitely have different feels to them.
Sail and Sea party
Jaina Swift- LN Female ifrit monk (empty hand)- A bit taciturn, but one Hell of a hard worker. She seems to have the least amount of BS tolerance out of the whole group. Rigger
Percival Asploric- NG Male human fighter- Something of a dandy in terms of behavior, but kind and thoughtful. Very Chelish, but not in a bad way. Swab
Xiakon the Blade- N Male tengu rogue (swordmaster)- A bit of a chatty Cathy who absolutely loves food and cooking it. Cook's mate
Lilly- NG female half-orc druid (aquatic druid)- A bit quiet, but very deep. Has a dimorphodon animal companion named Eyeball. Also a competent cook (I ended up flipping a coin between her and Xiakon, she lost the flip). Swab
Randall McNally- CN Male human bard (sea singer)- A charismatic Varisian with an eye for the ladies. His loquaciousness already got him assigned bilge duty day one. Swab
Radval Zardill- CN Male human sorcerer (shadow bloodline)- Quite standoffish, if handsome, and brooding. Seems the most upset about being press-ganged. Swab
I'll put up the other party when they've been assigned their roles (there was a bit of a snafu when the rogue fast-talked Master Scourge into letting him go see the Captain... only to fail in fast-talking the Captain)

We have a lively party of Dun Society (my campaign's southern kingdoms competitor to the pathfinders and aspis consortium) adventurers:
1. Tim - Tiefling Sorcerer/CN 5th level
2. Flynn Greywalker - Katapesh Gnome Rogue 4 (survivalist)/Cleric 1 of Calistria.
3. (Captain) A cavalier/CN with a boarding pike and an attitude. He is 5th level and running the show... or is the goblin Steve... or the Orc... or is Flynn?
4. Steve - CN/Goblin Magus 4 with a big monster attitude and trickster mindset
5. The Orc Barbarian (no name) - CN Barbarian 5
6. Brother Stanuslas - CG Daruma Human Cleric of Desna 4 who tries to convert all pirates to non-slavers and to hate the Chelish.
7. Xilius - Paladin of Sarenrae from Qadira. He is Aasimir and a devote follower. And, he has a mold and sword that has taken him over somewhat for the sake of a Brotherhood of the Wind to win back their good reputation.
We are a motley lot that makes the world a more fun place...

hashimashadoo |
1. Kyras - half-elf gunslinger. The voice of moderation (when he isn't drinking). Likes to think ahead since he created his character without ammunition or gunpowder.
2. Merisiel - elf ranger. A dual-wielder who really just wants to hit things.
3. Jer'Kai - human cleric of Besmara. Inferiority complex personified. Repeated failures caused her to resign herself to being a healbot.
4. Qaroline - goblin swashbuckler. Maniacal kleptomaniac.
5. Choden - dwarf monk. Quiet and reserved but always willing to punch things for justice!
6. The nutter with no name - half-orc fighter. Known as 'Captain Coffee' by some. Zany and eccentric but also very intimidating.

Update on the Members of the Endless Hunger (Isle of Empty Eyes):
New Members:
Charlik Jungle-Stalker [CN lizardfolk ranger (beastmaster) 10]
Survived for 1 year in the Isle of Empty Eyes, Charlik is a marooned mercenary. Rather than out of desperation, he wants to leave the island because he feels it has become too comfortable and is making him weak, and seeks the crew of the Endless Hunger as a source of hardship through piracy to strengthen him in exchange for his services. Though not quite trusted, his lethal skills and (as yet unknown) pet companion are assured to earn him a place among the Hunger's elite.
Zalan Voidwalker [NE sorcerer 10 (oni bloodline)]
Mysterious and foreign, Zalan's reasons for being in the Shackles are unknown at the moment. His skill at dominating and fooling the weak-willed is highly prized enough to have earned him a unique spot on the Hunger as a magic specialist.
Retired Members:
Gareth Solomon [CN human gunslinger 10]
While still a part of the crew and loyal to its captain, Gareth has decided, with the captain's blessing, that once the Isle has been claimed, he will remain to make it great.

Velkyn, half-drow/half-Mwangi shaman of the Juju spirits, from Mgange Cove (bonded witch archetype, modified to replace a spirit animal instead of a familiar)
Toechopper Stabknacker, goblin rogue from Mediogalti (thug and poisoner archetypes)
Vash, gnome alchemist (our only character without an archetype)
Samantha, human gunslinger from Alkenstar (buccaneer/pistolero, or "buccalero", with adjustments where the archetypes overlapped)
We're still in Book One, and so far Vash is having the hardest time adapting to shipboard life. He can't understand why he was chosen for the press-gang, except that it was easy to stuff him in a sack. With the least nautical aptitude (and attitude) in the party, he's become the favorite target of Plugg and Scourge.
Velkyn has made the most of his time in the galley, organizing Kroop's chaotic kitchen and striking up a very close relationship with Cut-Throat Grok.
Samantha hasn't fared much better than Vash. She's nearly drowned on several occasions. She was recently pulled from the sea, half-dead, within a few feet of the Wormwood.
Toechopper was a shoe-in for rigger as soon as Mr. Plugg recognized his Mediogalti clan markings. Sure enough, he reached the top of the mast first, and now spends most of his days in the crow's nest. Among the party members, he has the strongest lust for plunder (and unrequited lust for Riaris Krine).
If this crew survives to sail their own ship, it's going to be a floating lab, with chemicals, poisons and gunpowder in the mix!

Currently as a player I'm playing:
Free Captain Saaren: A Strongtail Merfolk Draconic Bloodline (silver) sorcerer 5/Dragon Disciple 2. Favors touch attacks and ice magic, thinks of himself as nigh unkillable due to his draconic heritage and fights rather recklessly. His followers seem to think he'll wind up dead sooner than later.
Other players:
Wurgoth: Half-orc barbarian 7. Favors cleave attacks with his greatsword and potions of enlarge person. Little regard for his own safety, but his recklessness pairs well with the captain. Relies on Mistmail for concealment due to his downright awful AC. (8 while raging and enlarged)
Barrid: Human Archer Fighter 7. The deadeye. Deals nearly as much damage as Wurgoth with his Rapid Shot and Deadly Aim. Doesn't say much, spends most of his time avoiding all the drunken banter and keeping watch in the crow's nest. He is also the childhood best friend of Saaren.
There's also a Ninja 7 who's name escapes me at the moment. He's a first time player that is really doing well. He isn't built the best and doesn't deal tons of damage, but could very well be the stealthiest character I've ever played with. Unfortunately he might be leaving the group soon.

LadyIrithyl |

I'm running a mostly good to neutral group of PCs.
Varisia - CN female Dhampir Rogue (Sniper) - So far in the first 21 days she has seduced several of the hostile npcs to turn them friendly towards her. She convinced Sandara Quinn that the reason she could not be healed with cure spells was because she was put under a curse.
Link Lightriver- CG Male Elven Wizard - Cooks Mate, and excellent singer. Has befriended nearly everyone thanks to entertaining the crew, and even getting Grok to given extra items to crew members.
Fyvle Vancaskerkin- CN Male Cleric of Besmara - Befriended Owlbear after showing him mercy and healing his wounds. He also has become somewhat of a bare knuckle boxing champion on the ship, despite having a strength of 12! (in rise of the rune lords the player was running Orik Vancaskerkin, so he wanted to keep his characters in the family. I have it that he is a cousin of Orik)
Flynn - CN Male Rogue - Stared the bare knuckle boxing in the bilges with Cogward. The Wormwood Fight Club! Saved Sandara Quinn from getting raped by Scourge after the storm at sea.
And if our other player shows up he is either going to be Rosie Cusswell who has sworn a life debt to Link for saving her during the storm (I told Link to think of her like a mini Chewbacca) or he'll play Owlbear who is best friends with Fyvle (Owlbear's like Sloth from goonies)
So for the first 21 days at sea they have been an interesting lot!

(I'll preface this by noting our GM was very flexible with races and classes and let us do some interesting and crazy things.)
We're currently level 9, soon to be level 10, and are in the process of...
The crew of the Flogging Molly (current total of 63 including PCs; 35 female/28 male):
- PCs -
Calling Montague a force of nature would be an understatement. Undoubtedly the driving force in the game, he is in all ways the protagonist, and the only reason the entire party is still around. As true a pirate as you'll ever find, his one goal is to pirate so successfully and epically that when he dies he sails for eternity with Besmara. His charisma is intoxicating, and he never fails to spread his infamy whenever he's in port. He has a ferocious hatred of sahuagin, and slaughters them any chance he gets, which has given us quite a stock of deep platinum. If Montague isn't doing something completely over the top, something is wrong. He's also a very talented cook, and loves serving up whatever exotic beasts we end up slaying in our encounters (dinosaur meat anyone?).
He reasoned with the GM to allow him to maintain full caster progression when he prestiged into Master of Storms in exchange for the things he'd gain but already had from being Undine (swim speed, resists, etc). He's the most experienced player at the table, and at times has trivialized encounters, which has forced our GM to throw some difficult things at us. But even though it's the Montague Show, it's a show I enjoy being a part of.
Shoot first, sort the bodies later, Ms. Fortune has no qualms shooting and killing anyone or anything. She rather enjoys filling her enemies with bullet holes, and is just as deadly with siege weaponry. Not much for talk, she leaves the social interactions to Montague, unless the conversation can be punctuated by the pull of a trigger. She takes particular enjoyment in harassing the "Cat" when she can, but never actively tries to get her killed.
Fortune is damage incarnate, and has ended fights and decimated foes with well placed critical hits, often cutting encounters short but ultimately keeping the entire party safe. Our GM tries to shut her down if he can, but has to be careful not to throw something out of our league just because Fortune does 150+ damage with two shots.
A shapeshifting assassin who is never far from her captain's side, Kyuubi has sworn to serve under and protect Montague with her life. She has a general dislike of pirates, fueled by her desire for vengeance against the pirate who slayed her parents ten years prior. She follows Montague despite him being a pirate mostly because he is her best shot at achieving her vengeance, while also out of obligation for him helping her stay alive this long. She has died once protecting her captain, but he resurrected her soon after. She maintains her human form when in port or during negotiations, and her natural form while sailing. She also can mimic other individuals she has met, and can assume the form of a tiny cat to scout or sit on Montague's shoulder appearing harmless. She is most at home in the rigging, and watches over the ship and crewmates while effortlessly climbing among the ropes, helping and disciplining the crew.
She is the offspring of a Catfolk and Kitsune, inheriting her father's catfolk form and strength and her mother's kitsune magic and cunning. She has a climb speed and bite attack in her natural form, and though planning on hiding her natural form was forced to assume it after falling during the rigger test at the start of the adventure.
As short fused as they come, she never leaves a fireball or magic missile uncast. She often spending her time locked up in the quartermaster's store crafting any number of wonderful items for her captain and shipmates. Her time on the Wormwood was not pleasant, getting a fair share of lashes for failed duties. Montague often guides her in matters pertaining to magic, letting her play with all the magical things we find.
- Former PCs -
An amnesiac who was found adrift near the start of the adventure, named Steve by the PCs (from a running joke of introducing an NPC and before the GM can give their name a player goes "Steve?! Steve the <class>!"). Master of all things related to smashing, and became best friends with Owlbear. Simple minded (either from the anmesia or normally, we don't know), and often would be told either "big smash" or "little smash" in the event of conflict. Player left the campaign, but Steve remains part of the crew.
- Key NPCs -
Sandara Quinn - currently Montague's cohort, romantic partner, and moral anchor preventing him from doing more evil necromantic things
Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop - our master cook who spent a great deal of time with Montague during our time on the Wormwood
Owlbear - best friends with Steve the Barbarian
- NPCs -
Most of the crew from the Wormwood that came with us on the Man's Promise, plus a large slew of others.

Can't remember the names except two of my players at the moment. But we have a half orc shark shaman druid nicknamed jaws, a halfling stormborn sorcerer, and the two named pc's:
Grey Thunder - Tengu Inquisitor of Hei Feng the Duke of Thunder(recently turned wereshark so he looks somewhat like a nitro from Toriko)
Marcus Wavecrest - A Human (kellid) Corsair fighter wielding a golf bag. I think he has a boarding pike, falchion, bastard sword, and a great club hidden in his bunk.

Shadowborn |

Current line-up, as it stands:
Barnacle Bill: human storm druid
Peri LaCroix: human gunslinger (buccaneer archetype)
Zokay: goblin alchemist
Phinneus: half-orc fighter (marine archetype from Wayfinder #8)
Also a yet-to-be-named seasinger bard, an undetermined arcane caster, and one player as yet undecided.

Finally get to start this Sunday. Barnacle Bill is going for a name change. The seasinger will be a dwarf. Caster is a human sorcerer with the destined bloodline. Final player, still undecided (sigh) but leaning towards an oracle.

Our party just finished day 1 and are at round 2 of the 2nd day at which the knuckle fight with 4 npc has started.
Ranak: CG half-orc sorcerer. The cook's mate.
Dario: LN human (drunk master) monk.
Highlight: punching Syl square in the face for 10 dmg as the 1st to start the actual fighting.
Jesal: N human aquatic druid. Nothing of note yet
Alabaster: CN human warpriest of Besmara. Has a thing for Sandara.
Edward (me): CN human bard. A slightly sarcastic smooth talker.
Highlight: gave Sandara a flashy serenade with lights and summoned instrument, resulting in her blushing and sighing when i left.
In the discussion tab there has now started a competition over Sandara's affection between Edward and Alabaster.
