Match 4- Orion vs Ulthor

Play-by-Post

51 to 100 of 102 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

GM:
So...does he have the movement to do this?

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

I suppose we are just waiting on GM notification at this point, as to whether or not you are able find me for grappling?

Ulthor:
He only gets an AoO if he can see you. Just a rules reminder. You also do not sense him.

Orion, yeah he has the movement to do that.

Pause game again.

GM:
I should cover the entire map with blindsense as I ascend. It is only 25' from my character to any map edge. Unless there is no line of sight.

If that is the case, I'll let Orion take his turn and begin my search pattern next turn.

One more question. Do I have to announce silenced spells while invisible?

Yes. I waiting for a resolution. Either way, once we have an answer it will be your turn.

Fighting an opponent with invisibility, mind blank and flight is not easy, even with an array of tools available for the task. Which is why I also have all three available 8P

The game is back in play.

Ulthor:
You are more than 25 feet from the edge of all corners of the map. The blindsense only has a 30 foot radius. You can choose any point or square you occupy to start that radius however. Even if you occupy H6 H7 G6 G7 as an example

Starting at H6 going to M1: All the following are diagonals.
H6 to I5 is the first diagonal so that is 5 feet
I5 to J4 is the second diagonal so it is 10 feet. We are now at a total of 15 feet
J4 to K3 is another 5 feet so that is a total of 20 feet.
K3 to L2 is another 10 feet which puts you at 30. That is the max of your blindsense.

This happens for every corner of the map. You are 5 feet short of covering the entire map for every corner.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

So...is he able to find me to grapple me? XP

No. It is your turn.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Round 12

Another wave of nullifying magic sweeps through the arena, most noticeably missing the northern most edge of the map. Nothing else happens...unless you have remarkably good senses.

Mage's Disjunction (DC 31), centered at H10 at a height of 30 ft (Marked on the Map for your convenience).

Stealth Check (While Casting Mage's Disjunction): 1d20 + 53 ⇒ (16) + 53 = 69

Other Stealth Check: 1d20 + 48 ⇒ (1) + 48 = 49

GM:
Stay at 55 ft, flying to A13.

. Bracers 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (13) + 43 = 56
. Ring 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (10) + 43 = 53
. Cloak 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (4) + 43 = 47
. Neck1d20 + 43 ⇒ (9) + 43 = 52
. Belt 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (4) + 43 = 47
. Head 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (18) + 43 = 61
. Eyes 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (10) + 43 = 53
. Hands 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (15) + 43 = 58

I become visible 55' above H7

Perception 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (17) + 37 = 54

That was a really bad stealth roll. I know where you are 8)
My movement and actions will depend on your location.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

I am located at A13, 55ft in the air. Ah the joys of the natural one...and why can't I get you to roll one. XP

I am closing and attempting to grapple.

Grapple 1d20 + 35 ⇒ (18) + 35 = 53

20% miss chance for total concealment: low is in your favor 1d100 ⇒ 9
I get to re-roll: greater blind fighting 1d100 ⇒ 14

And we're even on bad rolls 8)

You get an AoO. I'm not invisible

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Hehe. I would get an AoE, but why? I be a caster. xP

Two rays are sent forth, both composed of deepest cold. They come crashing into Ulthor and hopefully turn him into bits of monsterscicle.

Stealth Check (While Casting): 1d20 + 53 ⇒ (13) + 53 = 66

Spell Resistance on Polar Ray (If any): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (3) + 24 = 27

Attack Roll vs. Flat-Footed Touch AC: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31

Damage Roll: 20d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6, 1, 5, 4, 2, 3, 5, 4, 1, 2, 2, 5, 5, 2, 4, 3, 3) = 68 and 1d4 ⇒ 1 Dex Drain

Stealth Check (While Casting): 1d20 + 53 ⇒ (13) + 53 = 66

Spell Resistance on Quickened Polar Ray (If Any): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 26

Attack Roll vs. Flat-Footed Touch AC: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31

Damage Roll: 20d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1, 6, 4, 3, 2, 3, 3, 1, 4, 2, 3, 2, 5, 3, 3) = 66 and 1d4 ⇒ 1 Dex Drain

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 53 ⇒ (11) + 53 = 64

The arena, however, is quiet once more.

GM:
Moved to A8, staying at 55 high.

EDIT: Double-checked Polar Ray, and it isn't Dex Damage, but instead it is Dex Drain. My bad on that. I changed it appropriately.

I will simply absorb both rays. No apparent effect.

GM:
My ioun stone can absorb another 34 spell levels.

I cast Greater Invisibility

Stealth 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (2) + 33 = 35

GM:
I move to K11, 55'

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Might as well tell you I have True Seeing up. Where did you run off to?

I updated my location for you.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Round 14

A beam of black energy from an Enervation spell shoots forth into Ulthor, where he thought he was safe.

Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (14) + 24 = 38

Attack Roll vs. Flat-Footed Touch AC: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (17) + 21 = 38

Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 negative levels

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 53 ⇒ (19) + 53 = 72

GM:
Move back to A13, staying 55 ft up.

The beam has no apparent affect

GM:
30 levels left on the ioun stone.

Which square did the beam originate from

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

A8, 55 ft up. And you have some Spell Resistance, holy smokes.

I UMD a scroll of Disjunction targetting B7 at a height of 35'

DC 22

It should cover +-26.46 feet on the z axis at the 30' mark.

I put a lot of thought into fighting exactly this type of match, playing tag with a lich. Brute force is much easier to counter than a well prepared caster.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Belt: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
Boots: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
Bag: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
Hat: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
In-Hand: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35
Neck: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Ring: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
Robe: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
Cloak: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35

More to come once I get home.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Orion curses as he starts to float down from his position at A13, 55 ft in the air. Then he blurs as he casts Time Stop...and vanishes.

GM:

Time Stop Rounds: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Round 1: Activate Cloak, begin flying toward Ulthor.
Round 2: Cast Greater Invisibility, get to underneath Ulthor.
Round 3: Cast Dispel Magic on Bag to remove Disjunction. 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38. Place Rod of Quicken in Bag.
Round 4: Pull out Staff of Divination, use third level spell to replace a single charge of the three to cast True Seeing.

Current Positioning: K11, 40 ft. Hovering over the metal.

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 69 ⇒ (6) + 69 = 75

If see able to see invis:

Ulthor casts Evolution surge and moves to k7 35' up

GM:
Blindsense + Resistance 15 - Cold

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

You know, very few spells do not have to worry about Spell Resistance? So annoying, trying to find them.

Impacting Ulthor, a single burst of nullyfing magic easily identified as Dispel Magic to try and destroy the last spell he cast.

Dispel Check: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 39

GM:
Move to G7, 30 ft elevation.

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 49 ⇒ (15) + 49 = 64

Probably will not be able to post in the next couple of days. Wife just went into labor.

Take your time. much more important than this.

We will wait for you Orion.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

I am good to go once again, all is well on this end...though I am waiting to find out what happened with the Dispel Magic.

You got it

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Everything alright on your end, Ulthor?

Yes, got busy for a few days

Ulthor Casts Evolution Surge and lands at k7.

[spoiler=GM}30' Blindsense and resist cold. I also have 30' tremorsense if Orion is on the ground.[/spoiler]

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

So, you have really high spell resistance...crud...

Another Dispel Magic rips into Ulthor, attempting to cancel the last spell he cast.

Dispel Check: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27

GM:
Put Rod of Quicken back in the bag of holding as a move action, continue to hover at G7, 30 ft up.

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 69 ⇒ (2) + 69 = 71

27 won't dispell

For my move action, I run to C7, still on the ground. I have both 30' blindsense & 30' tremorsense

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Is that your entire action? You would have sensed Orion at G7, 30 ft up.

No, It was just my move action. I was looking for you.

Ulthor casts Glitterdust, centered on Orion's location.

DC 24 will save to avoid blindness.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Upon having the spell cast upon him: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21

Covered in glittering dust, Orion vanishes from where he was after clicking his heels together.

GM:
Using a charge from my boots to teleport to L11. I pull out my Tetsubo from my Haversack.

Saving throw at the end of my round: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25

Ulthor moves to G7 at 20'

If Orion is sensed Ulthor will throw another glitterdust

If Orion not sensed Ulthor will move to K7 at 40'

Just checking in to make sure no rulings are needed.

Orion you only need to make a new saving throw if you failed the first one.

Quote:
Each round at the end of their turn blinded creatures may attempt new saving throws to end the blindness effect.

You don't have to make a save to make sure it does not take affect.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Gotcha. I thought I failed the first saving through though, since the DC was 24?

Orion the Smooth wrote:

Ok. I did not even see that. You are correct.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Shot the GM a couple questions. Ulthor, you would not see Orion, at G7. However, Upon arriving at K7, you would see Orion at L11, on the ground (map updated for your benefit).

You're out of my range, I can only sense out to 30'
Your turn, I used both my actions moving.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

I am still covered in the Glitterdust I thought?

Also, do you appear to have wings of some sort, or do you appear to be flying with magic?

You would still be covered in glitterdust unless you took an action that would get rid of it.

Ulthor-The save for glitterdust only stops the blindness. The dust does not go away.

Ah, when Orion said he disappeared I assumed that meant he got rid of the Glitterdust.

Yes, I have wings, my flight is non-magical.

It is still your turn.

Run little man, no more ivisibility now!

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Oh, little Summoner, you have no idea what you have gotten into, have you? Comes a confident voice covered in glitter. That glitter blurs, vanishing from the view of Ulthor, replaced with a greenish mist of Mind Fog.

Time stop cast: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

GM:
Two castings of Spell Perfected Mindfog (The metamagic I am using is Persistent Spell for Spell Perfection, and I am adding 1 level of Heighten and Piercing, taking up an 8th level slot), overlapping the 20 ft radius so Ulthor is caught in both and I am unaffected, spending those two rounds moving to Last round is spent readying an action: When Time Stop ends, I use the Ring of Three Wishes to cast Blasphemy.

From below the mist, almost directly below the Ulthor, comes an intonation as part of a spell. "AND HE DID DECLARE HIMSELF GREATER THAN THE MOST HIGH IN ALL WAYS, AND WAS CAST OUT OF HEAVEN."

The First Heresy of Hell.

Blasphemy.

For the purpose of Spell Resistance on the Mind Fogs, your spell resistance is treated as 10 lower.

Spell Resistance for Mind Fog 1: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (19) + 30 = 49
Spell Resistance for Mind Fog 2: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (17) + 30 = 47
Spell Resistance for Blasphemy: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (11) + 26 = 37

Ulthor: You get to roll two pairs of Will saves for the Mind Fogs and take the lowest. The DC for this is 37.

Afterwords, you get to roll two saving throws for the Blasphemy. One for the usual effect associated with the spell (And since your in your Eidolon suit, you get to use your Eidolon's HD instead of your own). In addition, because you are in your Eidolon Suit, you get to roll a second saving throw and take an additional -4 for the banishment effect, in addition to any penalties from the Mind Fog.

The Will Save DC for both the normal Blasphemy and the banishment effect associated with it is 31.

Nice. Lets see how I do 8)

Saves vs Mind Fog
. first 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (19) + 43 = 62
. second 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (1) + 43 = 44

Got me with the mind fog, I rolled a 1

paralyzed 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (5) + 33 = 38
weakened 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (10) + 33 = 43
dazed 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (12) + 33 = 45
banishment 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (4) + 29 = 33

I am paralyzed for 1 round, roll the strength damage

Falling Damage 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 5) = 15

I am out of the Mind Fog, roll the duration.

HP 389/389
Temp 253/238

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Don't forget to roll the second Mind Fog, the effects don't stack, but the longest duration will come into play.

Mind Fog
. third 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (8) + 33 = 41
. fourth 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (6) + 33 = 39

I'm good

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Round 20

Ugh! Your Will Save!

Weakened: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10/2 = 5 strength for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 rounds

Mind Fog Duration: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12 rounds

Orion, now adjacent to the paralyzed form of Ulthor, grips something invisible in both hands, and swings with all his might at Ulthor's head...an attempt at a coup de grace.

Damage using a +1 Adamantine Spell-Storing (empty) Unholy Vicious Tetsubo while Power Attacking: 1d10 + 4 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 6 = 17*4=68 + 2d6 ⇒ 68 + (6, 6) = 80

If Ulthor is good: Add 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 Damage, resulting in 90 damage done. Fort Save or Death is 100.

If Ulthor is Neutral: Damage Done is 80. Fort Save or Death is 90.

For the purposes of bypassing DR, weapon is Bludgeoning, Adamantine, and Evil

Damage done to myself (Because of Vicious): 1d6 ⇒ 3

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Oops. Gave the wrong value for Power Attack...should be +9, not +6. My bad.

Fort 1d20 + 45 ⇒ (13) + 45 = 58

Good game. I made a mistake by not DDooring away.
