Guy hangs back and graces Nikki with another blessing of the faithful for a +2 sacred bonus to hit.
Nikita Volkov |
It looks like I can draw a line on the map from the corner of the square where Nikita stands to the corner of the square where the blue mummy stands. In other words, I can shoot at it.
Nikita shifts the scope of the revolver to another mummy and shoots at it, trying not to hit the fire elemental.

@Nikita
I do not see a +2 in there for the blessing of the faithful. Do you already have a sacred bonus to hit?
Nikita Volkov |
+6 = +2 Heroism +2 Hunter’s Blessing +2 Blessing of the Faithful. Did I miss something from our baffs?
UPD, wow, Hunter’s Blessing is a sacred bonus too. Suddenly. Maybe if I didn't miss anything from the other baffs, I should have -2 on both hits.
Guy du Loc |
Yep, forgot about that. So I should just not do the whole blessing of the faithful. Bummer.
Katswiri |
You have blessing of fervor now, so can take another attack or a bonus to hit and AC.

Guy gasps as Taresh runs into the thick of things and gets walloped. Since most of his spells are area affecting, he is not sure what to do now that he has figured out that his blessings are pointless. So he moves forward and reverts to using an old school firebolt on green.

Katswiri |
I think that misses because of Blessing of Fervor, actually, though there's also mirror image to contend with.
Katswiri casts Cure Moderate Wound to heal the Elemental, then steps out of the way to give Nikita a clear line of fire around the corner.

Taresh steps aside from the mummy's furious swipe, but the undead is distracted by the flickering images around the Varisian and the wrapped fist merely snuffs out one of them.

Feeling the righteous burning within himself, Taresh presses his attack on the red mummy, striking twice with the sword. After a low feint, his heads suddenly sprout bull horns which he uses to rake the mummy when rising back up readiness. The horns vanish as soon as he falls back to stance, giving the mummies no time to grab Taresh by the horns.

We have come at the behest of the Diamond Sage to explore this part of the Sanctum of the Sages and discover what still lies here from ages past. We were not expecting to encounter elemental and undead forces fighting each other. May I ask who you are, and how you came to be in conflict with the mummies we just helped fight?"
Taresh Mel |
Before Guy can heal him, Taresh bows to the priest. "No need for that, dear fellow. Mummies didn't get a chance to touch me. It was thanks to your magic that I dared to engage them in the first place, so you contributed plenty to this impulsive rush of mine!" Taresh and Katswiri spot a scroll in a fireproof case. The text records the deathbed account of a wizard who witnessed the Pharaoh of Forgotten Plagues binding the daemonic harbinger Zelishkar of the Bitter Flame.
The presence of the fire elementals continue to cause all the other scrolls in the alcoves to char.
Gurgle recognises Saruna as a mummified gynosphinx. The chamber she leads you into what looks like a chapel. This air in this chapel carries the scent of incense and old parchment. A simple altar occupies the east wall. An ibis statue sits behind it, silently gazing over any visitors. Pale light shines on the altar from a painting of the moon on the ceiling,
illuminating stray motes of dust. Although battle-damaged, the sanctuary is otherwise well maintained thanks to Saruna’s regular sweeping,
dusting, and polishing of every surface. An ancient sitting pillow, repaired countless times and sized for a large creature, rests before the altar.
Nikita does detect evil and senses some in her.
Guy manages to change her current attitude from unfriendly to indifferent. Saruna

Once she realizes the scrolls are burning, Katswiri will attempt to get the Fire Elementals to please step out of the way and wait in the hall so they don't burn the scrolls. I'm not sure where the alcoves are, exactly, but Katswiri just wants them to move somewhere where they won't hurt anything. The hall between A1 and A2 looks possible, or at the back of the chapel with Saruna.
She starts by asking the elementals themselves in Ignan.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 29
She will then hurry to try and salvage as many of the scrolls as possible, placing them in Guy's pouch or her handy haversack, and ask Saruna if she can direct the elementals.

If they cannot withdraw, their presence unfortunately will wither and burn the writings stored here, and" he turns to look at the statue, "such loss would be undesirable in the presence of Thoth. Saruna request your aid in defeating Badru and escaping the archive. She knows the Amethyst Sage sealed the library and only a sage jewel can reopen it, but she offers her scheme to create a flawed sage jewel.
She also tells you that In life, Saruna studied alongside the sages and considered the bearer of the amethyst sage jewel her favored colleague and mentor. When Keleshite forces conquered Osirion and began their campaign against the Jeweled Sages, the sphinx stood at her allies’ side to aid as best she could in preserving the nation’s history. At the sages’ request, she guarded the sanctum for several months while the Amethyst Sage sought some secret that might preserve the scholarly order. When he returned, he asked for her aid in a ritual he had found deeper in the Pillars of the Sun. She accepted, not knowing that the ritual required the removal of a sphinx’s heart—her own. Before leaving the sanctum forever, the Amethyst Sage revived his favored student as a mummy.
Badru, the one behind the mummies, also used to be a mortal apprentice andIn life, Saruna studied alongside the sages and served the Amethyst Sage with zealous devotion, hoping that his contributions might allow him to climb the order’s hierarchy and be honored with stewardship of a sage jewel. At the outbreak of Keleshite aggression, Badru watched his mentor with awe as the sage undertook dangerous missions to preserve Osirion’s history and the sages’ work. This apparent sacrifice in the name of the greater good inspired Badru to volunteer when the Amethyst Sage first asked for assistance in his immortality rites. The experiments in transferring a soul from one vessel to another was a success, so to speak, resulting in Badru’s transformation into a soulbound construct.
She also offers to help in your efforts in preserving the knowledge here.
Katswiri |
"I am so sorry that happened to you. That must have been a terrible shock, to be slain by a trusted mentor and brought back in that way. It sounds like you and Badru have common ground in that aspect; could you tell us more about why you're fighting? And can you elaborate more on the flawed Sage Jewel plan as well, do you believe its possible to create a Sage Jewel or fascimile sufficient to unseal the library? And where is the library?"
Taresh Mel |
"What sort of undertaking is the creation of this imitation sage jewel? And why did Badru send those mummies here now? Does he want something from you, or has he just suddenly decided that only one former student should reign here?"
phaeton_nz |
Whereas I despise my undead existence, he revels in it. I wish to preserve the knowledge here and ensure it is not lost to the world. He seeks to turn everyone into constructs. We have fought for millennia for control of the Archive, each seeking to destroy the other.
As for the gem, we need Badru's Soul Focus. With that, it needs to be purified by a special ritual then absorb the blessing from the glass golems downstairs.
Guy du Loc |
"Soul focus? Does that mean we need his cooperation too?"
Katswiri |
"To me that sounds like we would need to kill him and take the gem holding his soul to use as a base for this. Is that accurate?"
Taresh Mel |
"These glass golems. Do they need to be fought to absorb this blessing of theirs, or is there a non-destructive way to gain it? Golems can be troublesome things." Taresh snaps his fingers. "And what sort of protections Badru has at his end of the complex? More undead probably?"
Taresh racks his mind to think what he might have heard about soulbound constructs.
Do we have a chance of knowing anything about Badru with skills at this point, or is the information too vague?
Removing shield of faith and remnants of mirror image.
Guy du Loc |
"Also, are we trapped here too, or is that something that bonds only you two?"
phaeton_nz |
*to Guy* No. Killing him should be sufficient.
*to Katswiri* Accurate enough for me
*to Taresh* I am not sure. See what happens when you show them the blessed focus[ - but I do not think so
*to Guy* Now that the Library is unsealed, no you are not.
All you know about Badru so far is that he lurks on the lower floor and he is a soulbound construct. Knowledge Arcana may be the most useful
