Having read the blog, most of the theory sounds great.

But theory doesn't always get the theoretical results you expect.
That and it is still a living document, so changes will likely happen.

I am also wondering about how much visual character variety there will be?
Will the character meshes have mesh morphing or vertex deformation like the Characters in Skyrim, or Age of Conan to increase the variety of appearances.
Though I would prefer it, if character stats were reflected in there appearance (like in the Fable game series) and could use sheldon's body types to assist in this part.

I copied the above out of the feedback on the latest blog. I hope they do use this idea. A human with a Strength of 18 will have a sizable body mass (within parameters of course). They should be forced to select a weight based upon their stats. This may at first seem silly, but if mounts can only carry a certain weight, this could be a big deal.

This is relevant to a previous discussion we had concerning flying mounts and how they should be limited by their endurance. The flight time, ceiling, and maneuverability would be much different for a griffon carrying an Orc in full plate versus a gnome in cloth.

Of course, if they just decide to allow ponys to magically grow to 8 ft tall to accommodate large characters like WoW...well then never mind.

Although we can still use this thread to discuss character creation...

Agree, no adonis like character figures with the underlying stats of an asthmatic bullywug!

Strength = Muscley / Scrawny
Constitution = erm.. healthy / unhealthy looking :D
Dexterity = Lithe / Clumsy

Of course the non-physcial stats would be harder to represent..
Different RP emotes would be cool though.
Someone with a higher charisma gets nicer social options.
Someone with a high Intelligence gets a series of academic responses (Shaber nods in understanding at the Elf)

Tying different facial options to Charisma might be fun too :)

Would be nice if we control more then just the head as far as looks are conserned. It's boring to have everyone look similer except their heads. Definitly use stat representing modals but also allow other things like body scars or tattoos or maybe a gnome that's started losing her color or should they allow catfolk fur patterns and such.

You know, the tools for creating 3-d models and textures really are mature enough that it should be possible to allow the community at large to submit them for inclusion in the game. Maybe even allow the players to control access to them? So that a guild can design a tattoo that all of their members have, but other players aren't allowed?

The problem with custom assets is that they can quickly spiral out of control. How many models and/or textures do you want to have to download every time you walk into a major trade center?

That's a very good point I hadn't considered.

Would it make a difference if you only saw the custom textures and models when you did a more thorough examination of a person? I'm imagining that you see their basic model in-game, but that you can select them and inspect them more closely and really see their face up-close, as well as any custom gear like sashes or armbands, and any custom textures they have as well.

well... maybe a single .bmp file that represents a guild's tatoo is not a problem. neither are thousands of them...

You'd want a .png, but yeah I didn't mean that there couldn't be any custom assets, just that a handle needs to be kept on them. Guild emblems/heraldry would be a nice area to use them.

Custom tatoos/heraldy would be nice... assuming people don't immediately use this to put genetalia on every banner they fly in the city. Unless they're a crazed cult of Shelyn, which would make for some insane roleplaying...

However, I like the idea. Having more customization than most other MMOs would be nice.

I expect there will be many die-hard "lore-ists". I think allowing players to vote in the forums on the appropriateness of custom assets would be appropriate and not use GM resources. GMs then would only get involved if there is a dispute.

well... if someone does it, i'm expecting someone (probably me) to burn their house down. or a ban. burning something is always awesome.

Limiting submissions of custom assets and voting on proposed assets to subscribers is one way to improve quality, but there still needs to be some person who checks the highest-voted item and says "this is legit". Downvoted stuff doesn't need that check, it just gets dumped.

Agreed.
