Just mind boggling when you think of it. Could the numbers in the past maybe be wrong? Some one is always saying that such and such scientist possibly has under estimated how many people were in such and such region. Or some historian is always saying that the notes listed of the past were greatly exaggerated, unless archeological find show otherwise, which they seem to often do. Even then the numbers are staggering. The estimates are even larger. 9,746,000,000 by 2150 barring disasters or wars. Yet we cut funding for space exploration? Where do we think we will put everyone?

CJ, there is plenty of room for people already. Go explore how much of the world's population live in coastal regions and you'll see that in terms of just land, we're still golden. It's feeding people and getting food to them that's likely to be challenging. Water is likely to be even worse, as fresh water is used by everybody, everywhere, for everything from consumption to cleaning to industrial processes.

Yes we have plenty of room, but we have to use some of it for, well not people. Food production, highways to transport the food. Honestly we produce much more than we use right now, transporting most of it is the issue. Water resources are another concern. While still manageable in the US and in many countries, others are not blessed with the resources and framework we have set up.
Sorry just a general musing.

Where do we think we will put everyone?
In Cities...Given a Modular house in a Cargo Container costs about 10,000 dollars per family member - for what has been squandered as financial debt by the USA - we can build a billion population city in the USA which will consist of a Single row of commercial, governmental, and industrial towerblocks about a 600 mile diameter ring; a single medical, commerical, governmental, educational tower at the centre of every square mile within that area; and 200 million families on single acre farms allowing them to live a high density rural lifestyle where they can grow their own food.
Given we can do that in China, India, Europe, Africa, South America, and Australia, and North America...there are Cities for the first Seven billion people.

No problem with musings. Half the population of the world lives in cities as it is. There's plenty of room for housing, it's just getting food and water to everyone that's the trick. We can't do so quickly enough to avert famines as it is, and it's a problem that will get worse with time as there are increasing numbers of people to feed.
