Does Paizo's use of Smurfs break some kind of IP?

This is my first post. Where did you guys get the smurf avatars?

Hi Phyrexian_Jester. Welcome to the boards. I'm sure Lilith will be around with cookies shortly.

As you may have figured out, just typing 'smurf' in a post gives you a random smurf avatar. It is an ancient(in website years) feature of this board.

Cheers, Phyrexian Jester!
Smurf!

I hear there are cookies needed. *leaves cookies in thread*

Is your plastic pre-painted? 'Cause if it is, you'll have to randomize it. ::ba-DUM-tish!::

I am not ready to say goodbye to Kobold Cleaver's special smurf avatar.

A Kobold wearing a smurf's hat would be cool, but I wonder then if they could still nail you for making something with the smurf likeness, thereby we are in the same IP boat.

er..

SMURFITY SMURF SMURF, Gargamel is smurfing us again with legal smurfisms!

Someday I will figure out how you do that.

Aside. Blue goblins aren't even close to an IP violation, they're covered under the OGL after all.

I was looking up smurfs the other day, and found out that the hat they wear is a Phrygian hat which was worn in the Eastern parts of the Roman Empire, so goblins wearing smurf hats are safe.

It isn't a trademark violation that is at issue...it is copyright violation in the form of the avatar images.

It depends on where the images are from. If they are openly distributed then, much like the Paizo Blog images, anyone can use them.

It's morphin' time.

I know, I was replying to the concern that a 'blue goblin with a Phrygian hat' would still be an IP violation of the little blue buggers

What the smurf? Any particular reason for the thread necromancy, or are we all just feeling smurfy today?

Sovereign Court

I must admit, I find it humorous that all the smurfs who are questioning the necromancy are grouchy smurf ...

EDIT: Hmmm ... perhaps that smurf is an omen of much more smurfing to come ...

Yeah, I can get that. Though when it comes to smurfs it is the literal and not metaphorical "little blue" ...

Smurf Smurf Smurf.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you're looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that will be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will smurf you.

I can't resist testing this...

SMURF!

Y'all see the smurf hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Smurf's lookin' to kill some smurfs. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting ... Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienatin' smurfs is near miraculous.

This thread makes me so smurfy, I just smurfed myself!

Yeah there were attempts in the other smurf threads to try different approaches and they have mostly been thwarted. Most of the ways in which you can say "smurf" are covered.

(And Kobold Cleaver gets a special icon on the incredibly rare circumstance that he says smurf!)

P.S. Warning to all Smurfs! Don't eat the cookies that Lilith left in the thread. They are over two years old now and are quite thoroughly smurfed!
