Sorry, several hundred people all trying to download Ultimate Combat simultaneously overloaded the personalizer. We're rewriting it now.
Awkward?
Does this happen every time there's a new release like this or have the hordes just been extra rabid for Ultimate Combat? I don't remember it zapping out for UM, though I think that one was released in the early AMs.

Is this the message everyone else is seeing? It says that my unzipper is the problem.
The personalizer is temporarily unavailable.
Note: The default Windows unzipper sometimes tries very hard to "protect" you from PDF files by not unzipping them (and not even telling you they exist). If you don't see any PDF files after unzipping, using a different unzipping utility will solve the problem.
I just re-checked and the message has changed to this:
The personalizer is temporarily unavailable.
Heavy traffic has overloaded the personalizer service. We will restore service as soon as we can.

I generally find this kind of thing surprising. I've been interested in the book I just bought for several weeks, waiting for it in anticipation. Ultimate Combat looks like it's going to be a big seller for you guys, and this is no surprise.
And then sales day comes and your software side of the eCommerce website functionality crumbles like an invalid old man.
I have no doubt you're working on it, but obviously humility about the expected demand for your products has seriously impacted your customer relationship. This is the first, and I'm not particularly sad to say, probably the last time I'll be doing business with the paizo store.
Thanks though.

Unlike datgrUE, I am not ready to give up on Paizo altogether, as my past experience has been better... but this does kind of come as a serious blow to y'all's (yes, that's a word here in the South) customer service reputation.
Though, while rewriting the thing, could y'all add support for multiple downloads? Add a checkbox and the ability to download all checked files as a single zip would be really nice...

No amount of rewriting will help you if your server is hit with x000s incoming connections at same time. Heck, it can kill servers of companies such as Blizzard or Valve, and Paizo is a small little golem compared to them...

Yeah, there is always people who feel like they have to take a bad situation and somehow make it worse. I have really been looking forward to Goblins of Golarion (I don't know why but after playing We Be Goblins i'm addicted to playing as them) and I am disappointed with the way things are going today, but i'm not going to take my business elsewhere (I don't know where to get Pathfinder PDFs honestly without illegally downloading them) or encourage others to do the same. These are optional rules and I don't think anybody is on a deadline to make their game using specifically these rules that nobody knows yet. I trust in Paizo and I know firsthand that s+!& happens.

Wait a sec ... what do you mean "unforseen circumstances"? I am sure that Paizo knew ahead of time that UC would be an incredibly popular DL. All that I would like is a timely and speedy DL so that I can peruse my book before having to go into work.

The My Downloads page should once again be available.

And back down. Sorry folks. We're working on it.

Ah, the joys of pdf stamping. I'm actually surprised the service is this resource constrained.... makes me wonder (professional curiosity) which pdf toolkit is being used if it can't handle chain-streaming pdfs into the database at equivalent speeds.
Maybe it's time to consider EC2 instances as a new server farm? Cloud hosted db and S3 might be better answers long term (but that ain't gonna help the gencon day 0 problem)...

Well on behalf of all of those patient people who are waiting on it: Keep going guys! You'll make it and we all appreciate you for the effort.
I second.
Thank you Tech Support for missing GenCon to be here to resolve the issue for us. Even though we caused it again :-)

Thank you for putting up with us.

I third it.
Good to see that some of us can be patient.

Just for the sake of discussion:
So the problem was miscalculating ultimate combat's sales or having 4 books (UC, inner sea magic, jade regent #1, goblins of golarion) be released at the same time?
Or maybe the hour it was released? I don't know what hour it was in US when it was released but for most europe it was between 4PM and 7PM.

Praise be the eternal vigil of the Tech Support Crew, thank you for bestowing sheer awesome to the internet. May the gods rain sweet meats on your home. Preferably something small and compact, don't want sky cows falling on you.
