Hello Everyone,

Seeing how I was just recently passed over on a possible Jade regent game I figured I would start my own since I just got the "soon shipping" email for it.

What I'm looking for:
4-6 dedicated players who can post at least once a day and will be patient if I don't live up to that standard(see below for explination)
Creative players that go beyond the standard human fighter with no flavor.
Players who have a reason to be going on the adventure(explained through background)

Build Rules:
I'm doing my standard 2 sets of 2d6+6 pick your best. If you end up with below a 20 point build when you roll go ahead and use a 20 point build(that way people aren't penialized by dice).
Max gold for classes
Max HP at level 1(duh)
2 traits, 1 must be a campaign trait
Sources available: Core, APG, UM, UC(when it comes out), and Inner Sea world guide. Other things from paizo's other products might be considered but ask me first and they have to be published by paizo.
Races: Standard+Beastiary 1 & 2

Application process:
While I know people can get frusterated with them I would like to see your roleplaying style so I am going run a little pre-adventure here once I get a good amount of applicants wanting to play. All applicants should participate to be considered.
This will allow me the ability to wait for the book(s) needed to run this to ship(hopefully the shipment clears my bank).
Applications will be accepted until either I recieve my books or two weeks from today, which ever happens first

DM Background:
I've been running games here since...March. Currently I'm running 2(soon to be 3) games and playing in several others both here and on the boards. I am also working on my masters degree(half way done) and might be getting a new job(interview Tuesday, keep your fingers crossed). This being said I shall do my best to post once a day(sometimes more) but if it doesn't happen please be patient with me as I am very busy. If you want to check out my style feel free to look at the threads in my profile or you can ask some of my regulars as I'm sure they'll be along shortly to apply.

Let the applications roll and I look forward to interacting with everyone who applies.

Hi Mathpro, good luck with your interview!

Some rolling, then some thinking...

Set 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Set 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12

Set 1 for sure, though not sure what to do with it...

Thanks! I'm horribly over qualified for the job but I need to take what I can get as I've been unemployed for almost 2 years now. And glad to see a repeat customer, I was afraid my lack of posting in LoF had scared you off.

Set 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

Set 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13

I'll get a character idea up soon hopefully.

Thank for your interest Fraust. I love how I have a game starting in 3 hours that I should be preping for and yet I'm spamming refresh on this thread.

Oh by the way I won't be on after 4:30 PM CST...running my serpents skull group tonight. If you have questions about rules or allowable builds or anything else I'll try to get to them either before game or tomorrow before my Raise of the Runelords game.

Mathy, I have never heard of jade regent. Is there a players guide?

Jade Regent is the next adventure path after Carrion Crown so I'm not sure if the players guide is out yet.

Edit: Uppon further searching I couldn't find one but here is a description copied and pasted off the adventure path webpage.

Spoiler:

When a decades-old secret is exposed, an unassuming local tavern-owner and a close friend of the PCs discovers her birthright is to rule one of the ancient Dragon Empires of Tian Xia—the empire of Minkai. Yet the current ruler of this empire, the mysterious and increasingly cruel Jade Regent, has no intention of giving up his hold over the throne. In order to save Minkai from a would-be tyrant, the PCs must not only escort their friend from Varisia to Tian Xia, braving the frozen horrors of the Crown of the World, but must aid her in gaining the trust and support of a nation on the edge of anarchy.

Pathfinder Adventure Path is the premiere monthly resource for your fantasy roleplaying campaign. Every month, the Pathfinder Adventure Path brings you a new installment of a 6-part series of interconnected quests that together create a fully developed plot of sweeping scale and epic challenges. In each volume of the Pathfinder Adventure Path, you'll meet nuanced characters, visit fantastical locations, face deadly foes, and learn ever more about nefarious plots and an incredible world forged by some of the most popular authors and artists in fantasy gaming. What's more, each Adventure Path also comes complete with new monsters, detailed supplementary chapters on important topics and locations, and fiction in the Pathfinder's Journal—everything you need to make your campaign rich, detailed, and engaging.

The Brinewall Legacy: A rag-tag band of goblins armed with fireworks leads to the discovery of an old parchment that connects local tavern-owner Ameiko Kaijitsu to a mysterious legacy hidden in the abandoned ruins of Brinewall. Once the northernmost Chelaxian colony in Varisia, the citizens of Brinewall vanished mysteriously several decades ago, and the empty village and castle have since become the lair of all manner of strange creature and monstrous beast—recovering the legacy still hidden within will be no small task, especially since a powerful supernatural enemy of the Kaijitsu family still lurks within the ruins!

Okay, I’ll give it a shot. Here are my rolls

Result 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Result 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9

Well should I go with result 1.....or 2? I wonder. (Sarcasm)

Shanosuke wrote:

If it is anything like the previous AP's, they will release the player's guide sometime mid-late next week.

Looks like DM Mathpro has more than enough fleshed out applicants for Crypt of the Everflame, maybe I'll move over here.

Set 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9

Set 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Good luck, Mathpro. My wife and I both have experienced long bouts of unemployment and I know how rough it can be.

Rolls 1

Spoiler:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12

Rolls 2

Spoiler:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13

So definitely the first batch of rolls. I'll ponder some character options and come back with a proposed character.

Shadow Lodge

Hello Mathpro. Just got passed over for the same PbP! :D

I'd be interested in this, thinking up concepts, I'd like to wait for the PDFs of the player's guide and UC if that's ok for most of the crunch, but the fluff I'll start on right away.

Set 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11

Set 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8

Looks like I'm doing 20 point buy.

Good luck with your interview!

I was also passed up on (probably the same) Jade Regent pbp due to late entry. I have a partially rolled (20 point buy) Dwarf priest of Torag that I'd like to play.

His back story has him accompanying his brother on a multi-stop trade route starting from Janderhoff to Sandpoint. During the overland route, Dorrak's addiction to drugs and strong drink became too much for his brother to tolerate. Dorrak entered a drug induced coma for several days before arriving in Sandpoint. With no other choice, Dorrak's brother left him and a sizable donation at the Sandpoint Cathedral with a note clearly stating he should not return home until he has kicked his habits and restored honor to his name.

I'll finish rolling up/fleshing out the character and write up a detailed back story.

Shadow Lodge

I'll be applying for this one with Jasper Lind. Varisian Rogue and member of the Szcarni crime syndicate. I'd really like to wait for the players guide before coming up with too much background, in order to make it tie in, but the basics are he is a young man who is tired of working for this family and wants to see the world.

Excellent glad to see interest in this. Hopefully we don't have to wait to long for the Players guide and the .pdf's to be downloadable so I can start running this...I've been looking forward to this AP since it was announced.

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

I've got a cool concept in mind for a Mystic style Oriental Mage. Not sure which class fits best, as I'm still fleshing out the concept. Thinking about wards, divination, counterspelling, summoning...that type of thing more than outright fireball type spells. Maybe even a little older than average starting age, with a whimsical sense of humor. Let's see what the dice gods have in store...Possibly some Genie or elemental blood.

Set #1

Spoiler:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12

Set #2

Spoiler:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14

Set two it is then. I can work with that.

Ok, Jade Regent is a game I'd love to get into, even more than the Crypt of Everflame you're running that I put in for. :)

This is my character idea:
The Miura Trading Company is well known in the Minkai Empire of Tien Xia. Saburo is the third son of the eldest member of the family. As such, he has been in a position to pick up the knowledge of how the business is run, but avoid direct responsibilities associated with it.

Although his father was against it, before he reached his tenth birthday, his mother sent Saburo to her father to learn skills more commonly associated with the spies and assassins rumored to dot the islands of the empire. (As one such individual, his grandfather proved that the rumors were true and was willing to teach his grandson what he felt were skills necessary to survive in the upcoming conflicts resulting from what he saw at the time as the corruption of the empire) After several years, he returned to the family, only to have his father rebuff him and send him on a trading voyage to the west. Unknown to Saburo, the rebuff and apparent exile was his father's way of saving him from a war between families about to erupt (and had already seen the death of Saburo's oldest brother).

Here's my rolls:

Set 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14

Set 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13

Yep, Set 2 it is then. :)

(Arknight) And here's Saburo. :)

This profile is update with statblock info..

Looking good.

I won't be posting an application after all. Good luck to all!

I had bid for your Crypt game. Would you like me to reroll or use the previous ones for a submission?

you can use the previous stats if you want.

I would also like to use Cambden's stats left over from Crypt as well - doubt i could roll better...

Thats fine Cambden

Dark Archive

I'm also interested in this AP and would love the opportunity to give it a try. I'm thinking of a half-elf witch that I started to work up for another game that never happened. I'll come back with a backstory later today.

In the meantime:

Roll 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15

Roll 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

Roll 1 it is.

This is Broven. Here's what I have so far. It will need some adjusting once the Player's Guide becomes available.

Appearance:
At 5'2" and 100 pounds, Magdelia is small for a half-elf. She wears and calf length sleeveless dress that has seen better days. It has been patched and repaired several times over the years, but remaines functional. Her dark hair is styled but often unkept, as if it were an afterthought. Her green eyes peer out from behind long bangs. Her right arm is covered from wrist to shoulder in a dwarven clan tattoo of angular lines. On her throat is a puckered scar which stands out white against her tanned skin.

Attitude:
Mags is generally quite. When she speaks her voice is a harsh whisper. She holds a touch of disdain, rooted perhaps in jealousy, for the noble class. But she spares her sharp wit for no one. Though she prefers cunning over brute force, she does not let her slight size hamper her when push comes to shove. She has been known to stand up to men more than twice her size.

Backstory:

Submitted for your approval, Magdelia Estuv-Brez, a half-elven witch, and her companion Sticks the rat. Her backstory can be refined once the Player's Guide is available, but here is where I'm at with it at this point:

Her parents (elven mother, human father) were active in the politics of Westcrown in Cheliax. Despite that nations reputation, they strived to raise their daughter in a loving and safe home. It was here that Magdelia met Sticks, who wandered into the yard one afternoon. Being only 8 years old at the time, Mags had little fear of the creature and soon found that the animal was not only doscile, but seemed to enjoy her company as much as she did his. After a time here parents relented to the idea of the unorthodox pet. (Sticks would become her familiar at the behest of their patron, Desdenova, who intends to use the familiar to guide the half-elf toward some destiny that Mags is currently unaware of.) Note: I just made up this patron, as the books don't really give specific info on them as far as I can find.

Not unusual for the region, Mags parents found themselves caught up in the political machinations of Westcrown and were eventually deceived into making a trip to the nearby hills southeast of Egorian. The pretense was that they were to meet an informant that had information on the opposing councilmen that they would find useful. Taking Magdelia with them, they set out. Unfortunately, they were ambushed in the wild and murdered by agents of the very men they had come here to gain advantage over. Magdelia was left for dead, having taken a bolt in the neck. (During the short battle she was able to hear the names of two of the four mercenaries: Trowbridge and Hack. The other two were never called by name.) Providentially, a clan of dwarves passing through the area came upon her while she yet lived and were able to nurse her back to health over time, though she ever after spoke in a harsh whisper, and the scar on her throat never faded.

Not wishing to leave such a young girl to her fate as an orphan in Cheliax, the dwarves took her with them on their long journey back to Varisia. There she traded her happily sheltered, upper-class life for one of hard work and often lean times. She proved somewhat inept in the dwarves meager mining operation, but showed some competance as both a cook and a trapper/gatherer for the clan. The carefree attitude of her youth seemed all but gone, however.

Eventually she took to wandering further and further from her home, often dissappearing for weeks on end. On these journeys she would take Sticks with her, exploring the lands about: North into Churlwood, or as far south as Sandpoint. It was here that she met Ameiko Kaijitsu. At first she merely traded smoked meats or furs or herbs that she had gathered on her trip. On occasion she even earned a few coins helping out in the kitchen. The two became quite close over the years, and by the age of 19 Mags was making regular visits to the unassuming Tavern in Sandpoint.

On her twentieth birthday, Mags requested to take part in the coming of age ceremony of her adopted clan. It took some convincing, but she was reluctantly given the clans tattoo. Shortly after this, she bid her new family farewell, with promises to visit as time allowed, and headed south to Sandpoint. Ameiko had offered her a full-time position in the kitchen on more than one occasion, and the girl intended to take her up on it.

On the journey south, as they camped one chilly night, Mags gathered together firewood and kindling only to discover that she had no flint. "By Torag," she mumbled under her breath. Looking at Sticks she offered a weak smile. "Gonna have to do this the old fashioned way, I'm afraid." It was at this moment that she first became certain that there was more to the small rodent than met the eye. "You have no need for flint and steel," she heard him say. She regarded him for a moment, feeling inexplicably uneasy. "You don't, perhaps," she whispered, "all warm and cozy beneath my blanket. But I need a fire." She looked through the kindling she had gathered, looking for a suitable bow, board and spindle, her hands shaking with an undefined fear. Sticks moved over to sit on the wood pile, looking up at the woman. "Stop," he said. "Come. Sit with me for a moment." He moved off a short way, setting himself amongst a growth of white autumn flowers. Mags squatted by the wood pile for a few moments longer, regarding the rodent and trying to dismiss the feeling of unquiet that was nagging at her. Finally, with a shrug and a laugh that held a touch of the histerics she felt rising from inside, she moved over to sit before the animal. "I've no idea what's going on here, but it's getting colder, Sticks. What're ye about?" She received no answer. Instead she found herself slipping into some dark world, darker than the night she left behind. Though she remained aware of her surroundings, the sound of the wind in the trees, the chirping of the seasons last insects, the distant crack of a branch as some animal moved through the dark thicket, she also became aware of another world. It was a world of shifting colors, shifting imagery. Dark and foreboding, silent and insidious. For nearly an hour she sat there entranced by what Sticks showed her. And when it was over, she knew that she needed no flint and steel. Rising on stiff legs, she moved some of her gathered timber into a pile, surrounding it with lighter kindling. And with a motion and a mumbled word, a spark ignited in the heart of the pile, igniting the wood. As the fire grew, spreading its light about the clearing, she looked at Sticks, hiding her concern. Though she noticed it, she pretended not to. The delicate white flowers around Sticks had withered and blackened.

Over the next four years, Mags made herself useful in Ameiko's kitchen and slowly came to terms with her new-found abilities. Sticks continued to teach her things, secrets. Yet to this day the half-elven woman has no clue from where her power arises. And Sticks hasn't volunteered the information.

Silver Crusade

Hello, Mathpro! I too wish to grant you good luck in your up-coming interview. I'm a member of Roidrage's IRL game, as well as his room mate. He's just got me into Play-by-post gaming, and he forwarded me on to your new AP.

So, without further ado, here are my rolls.

Set 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9

Set 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

I plan to take my first set...

My Concept!:
A half-elf male, young in age. This half-elf would be a Magus - being forced his whole life to choose between his elven and human side in a typical 'choice of identity' situation, he rolls through his life in the path of a Magus. Rebelling against both sides, he chose to take his own pathway.

This looks like fun.
I hope the interview went well.

Alpha:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

Beta:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13

Well Beta is a tad too good. May go alpha

If you don't mind recycled characters I would like to put forward The right honorable Alfonso de CaIlentia de Almontia de Thrune.

Cheliaxian fop, cynic and disgrace. Sent to Sandpoint, ostensibly to promote trade but actually in the hopes that he dies in the wilderness. You see he is an Abyssal blooded sorcerer. Bit of a scandal there.

The alias is for a campaign that died but rebuilding for this Ap will be a joy. Play wise he will be a fish out of water but very useful for his magic and social skills. His will be an arc of self-discovery. Finding out there are things to hope for in this world and that he can rely on others and that he can be relied upon. CG tending CN very cynical.

Mechanically I will most likely stick with Sorcerer he will focus on summons and conjuration.

Dark Archive

Wow! You're beta roll is a 52 point buy! Impressive.

Shadow Lodge

With my 20 point buy that makes me sad.

Balodek wrote:

I prefer point buy for this very reason. I am horrible at optimizing and Alfonso is in a less than super bloodline if it helps.

Shadow Lodge

It's all good, just wish I'd rolled better. :D

Scene a tavern in Sandpoint:
Two men sit at a table a bottle of wine between them.
One man is a well, almost foppishly dressed human the other a dwarf who has seen better days. Both have clearly been drinking.

Hope you don't mind me stealing your dwarf for a bit Dorak!

The human speaks: "Why am I here? You ask me why a scion of the noble house of Thrune is drinking foul wine in this Aroden forsaken tavern in this rat infested wilderness? Buy another bottle of the fermented corpse juice and I will tell you.

My name is Alfonso de CaIlentia de Almontia de Thrune and am here as a personal and studied insult. More importantly I am here because a dying old man and a very strong woman truly hated my father. Get comfortable, it’s a bit of a tale.

As you can tell from my name I am an appendage of the rotting corpse that is house Thune. As you may not know because you think more about pig diseases than Chiliaxen dynastic law, something I commend you for by the way, I am also a member of the glorious house Almontia and of the forgotten house Callentia.

You tell me you have never heard of these two great houses? That does not surprise me as you are an unwashed illiterate. My turn to buy more wine, I think. If you keep drinking it you will find that the taste grows on you, a bit like a social disease only not as enjoyable. Very few people outside the thought free arena of high cheliaxian politics have heard of these houses. They are both minor attachments to house Thune. Fleas who have not realized the dog they live on is dead.

These two houses hated each other as only close relations can. They were not on speaking terms; they said what they needed to with strangle-cords and poison.

The vendetta had been going on since time out of mind as all good vendettas do, real quality entertainment, something you can leave to what children survive.

Anyway things came to a head with my maternal Grandfather; old man de Callentia. Due to a series of unfortunate ‘accidents’ he was left without a male heir. He himself was too old and too pumped full of antitoxins to be likely to produce one. This posed a problem. He did however have a daughter, my mother of despised memory. She was by all accounts beautiful and was considered one of the most eligible women in Cheliax. She was wooed by most of the vapid upper-class of that hag-ridden hellhole but she had only had eyes for my father.

He was the eldest heir of house Almontia and as vicious a bastard who ever had an upstairs maid whipped to death for saying ‘maybe’. Lovely man, credit to his nation. Where is that blasted wine?

You no doubt can see the story: Two feuding families, two star-crossed lovers, perhaps a tragedy, perhaps a hope for reconciliation. A cesspit by any other name… Well the story played out. The courtship. The coy glances. The secret meetings. The night under the stars. The pregnancy. Old man Callentia had to allow the marriage to avoid a scandal. Not that he cared about the pregnancy but he could not be seen to be unable to control his daughter. He did drive a hard bargain for what was effectively a Almontia takeover of his house. Any child born of his daughter after the contract was signed was to be publicly acknowledged as my father’s son and a scion of the house. The contracts were signed. The wedding was held before a devil-priest and the houses were lawfully wed, and the vendetta ended. Old man Callentia even had the good grace to die before the wedding.

In due, or slightly less than due time, I was born. That I think was when everything started to go wrong.

Mmmmmm good legs on this one, and just a hint of varnish in the aftertaste.

You see the Old man knew that his house was dead. He knew that Almontia would triumph, and he hated it. More importantly he distilled that hate and fed it to my mother with her natal milk. He filled her with hate and taught her to play politics for she was to be the vehicle of his revenge. You see neither of my parents loved the other. I don’t think they were capable of such a complex emotion. When my mother looked into my father’s eyes she saw only an enemy whom she was going to destroy. When my father looked into my mother’s eyes he saw only his conquest of house Callentia. Each was plotting to destroy the other, I am the result.

Ah, more wine. Hmm this one is in a different bottle. Yes this is not the corpse juice we have been drinking; this is clearly distilled rat urine. Good year too.

As my mother’s pregnancy progressed her behavior became more and more erratic; though how anyone noticed given the loose standards of normal that prevail in our social strata I have no idea. Eventually I was born and the cat was, if you will forgive the expression, out of the bag. You see while my father was legally and publicly my father he was not the one who got my mother with child. Normally in the good and noble houses of Cheliax this sort of peccadillo is quietly papered over, business as usual, pity about the baby. However my mother was still sane enough to have a senior Hell-knight present at the birth, as a mark of honor you understand. He witnessed the birth and prevented business as usual.

For you see my ‘actual’ father was not exactly human. A great many sins are forgiven to the high and mighty, but even in Cheliax cavorting with a demon is unforgivable. House Almontia was forced to acknowledge me but their lawyers, and wealth, were able to ease me out of the line of succession. I bet that cost them.

As near as I have been able to piece things together the plan was for me to inherit or at least take a senior position in house Almontia as befits the son of the heir. I would then marry within the house and the demon blood I carried would forever be a stain on noble Almontia. There would be rumors. Quiet questions asked in places of power. House Almontia would never rise in standing; they would be tainted by my blood forever. However the taint manifested too early. I was noticed. Pity.

As they could not kill me thanks to the Hell-knight knowing who and what I was, the family chose to ignore me. Eventually I grew up enough that people were beginning to notice me. To my knowledge my father had to turn down three marriage contracts without explaining why. I was causing him political damage. Something had to be done. They called in the lawyers and the accountants. They poured over old documents and found an old charter deeding house Callentia some property in the old Brinewall colony. I am supposed to see what remains and how it can be turned to a profit. In actuality I am supposed to die out here...
I can see it now, mourned by all, a sad day for house Almontia, flags at half staff, a gallant hero, fell in the service of Cheliax, it’s what he would have wanted.

He expects me to die out here. I expect to make him regret letting me out from under his iron heel.

I wonder who will be proved correct?

More wine?

Just a writing sample to give you an idea of dear Alfonso. I am able to post several times a day but I don't mind slow paced games. I like to help out in the running where I can. Tracking supplies or loot for example. Anyway this app has gone long. The stats under the alias will be different if I am picked but the important bits will be the same. I hope you select me, this looks like an enjoyable game.

If I can ask, what flavor of Masters? I am midway through a Masters in Library and Information science myself.

Here are the basics of my character Hiro. He will be completed when the guide comes out and/or upon selection. The description of the Prehensile Hair Hex says hair or eyebrows, but it would be cool if his beard or fu-manchu mustaches could work as well.

"Notick Mostriaré at your, erhm, 'services'... Inside of my profile you shall find that which makes you want to be me."

FuriaRi0T: In all seriousness - this is the primary concept I'd like to delve into your upcoming game! With the release of the guidebook, I can add a lot of the missing items and such.

Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. Though, as you can probably tell, my BS was in Mathematics. After I finish my MBA I might(funding pending) start working on my MS in Mathematics. Ultimatly I'd like to get my PhD and teach at the University level but we'll see if that's where life takes me.

All applications look great guys. I'm going to generate a list of proposed classes to make class selection easier for those that are coming late to the game I generally only like having one of a class per party. Though I guess duplicates in the application process help because then I can do a comparison.

Dotting for interest! I used to playrun PBP games on ENWorld pre-college and now that I've graduated I want to get back into it. I'll post my character concept soon.

Roll A:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14

Roll B:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15

Um, is there such thing as stats that are too high? Set A looks a little munchkin-y to me and I'd be happy to make my character showing with both sets of stats to make sure they aren't overpowered for the group.

Holy high-roll Batman!

Here's the submission for markofbane based on my rolls earlier in the thread. Jawn is a halfling guide/scout for hire with merchants going to and from Sandpoint and has close ties with the Sandpoint guard and some of its other citizens. His character sheet in on the profile and I've copied his background here for your convenience.

Spoiler:

Most in Sandpoint believe Jawn’s close bond with the town guard is because it was they who found him. Regardless of how it came to be, it was undeniable and powerful.

Jawn was abandoned at the docks of Sandpoint and grew up in the orphanage there. From the time he was a toddler, the kind folks running the orphanage could not keep Jawn in sight, but they always knew where to find him. The young Halfling always slipped away and found his way to the gates, the watch house, or following along with a patrol. The guards at first tolerated him (once they figured out he’d keep slipping out of the orphanage and finding them). As he matured, he became well liked for his humor and willingness to help. It was no surprise to anyone that once he was old enough, he joined the guard. No one actually remembers hiring him; he just started drawing pay one week for the work he’d been doing for a while at that point.

After nearly a decade of this, Jawn started to feel strangely dissatisfied. Nothing else had changed, just this odd feeling. He started to request to be put on patrols outside of town, the further the better. He was always happy to come back to Sandpoint, but he felt a new thrill each time he went further and further away from the town.

Eventually, one of the sergeants suggested that he try taking assignments with merchants going to and from Sandpoint. Jawn was welcome to work with the guard between these trips, but the sergeant thought it would help satisfy his wanderlust. And for several years, it worked wonders. Jawn took to the role of guide quite naturally and was hired with increasing frequency. He always made time to see his friends still in the guard when he was in town to swap stories, but each time out his new duties took him further and further away. Now back in Sandpoint after his most recent job, Jawn is pondering his next move.

Jawn is a Halfling who clearly has recently spent a great deal of time outdoors. The sun has lightened his hair to nearly blond and darkened his skin to a rich almond tone. He’s dressed in comfortable, study clothing overlaid with leather armor that leave his head bare and his roughly calloused feet and hands exposed. He walks with great confidence, as though he has nothing in the world to fear. He has bright, alert eyes and a ready smile. While his gear is packed carefully to balance the load (as he’s accustomed to long treks on foot), his appearance is often disheveled and messy.

Sovereign Court

I would certainly be interested in this :-)

Set 1:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

Set 2:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17

Looks like Set 2 is the one for me - not as impressive as that 52 point buy, but still respectable ;-)

I will post a character concept shortly.

*shameless bump*

Looks like I won't be getting my hands on the .pdf's until next week but I must remain patient. Oh and still no players guide from what I can find but I'll still check daily and when they release it I'll post a link here to help you flesh out your characters.

That would be great. Thanks!

Okay so to make things easier for those new to the thread and for me here is the list of what we have so far:

Fraust
Shanosuke
Talomyr
Jawan Swiftrun(Markofbane)-Halfling Rogue(swashbuckler)
Jasper Lind(Balodek)- Human Rogue
Dorrak-Cleric of Torag?
Mivra Saburo(Archnight)-Human Rogue
Kysterick-
Cambden Paige(user name to long)- Human Alchemist
Broven- Half elf Witch
Motic Mostriare(FuriaRiOT)- Half Elf Magus
Alfonso(PoorWanderingOne)-Human Sorcerer
Hiro Sakinaura(Scanford)- Sylph Witch
Sollir
Luke_Parry

If I missed anything let me know.

*NOTE* Anyone who hasn't been mentioned above and is new to recruitment, I'm accepting no more applications for Rogue...

ok so a quick look....

Four arcane casters. Sorcerer, Witch, Magus, Alchemist (ok so not a caster but close enough)

One divine. Cleric
Is it just me or are connection threads always short divine casters and Fighter types?

Three rouges one of which is a swashbuckler.

We could really use some muscle. Heck with UC going live I am really suprised more folks are not going fighter/barb/etc Pretty suprised not to see Monks/Samauri/Ninja making an appearence. Heck given the ammount of travel this AP looks to involve it seems perfect for a Cavalier/samauri.

If it were not for the fact that I dearly love Alfonso's cynical wit I would be stating up a Ronin. In fact I just might do that tonight and see what there is to see.

Shadow Lodge

I didn't go with anything from UC because it's harder to base a character on something you haven't seen yet. I didn't realize we had so many Rogues apply though.

I still have no idea what I want to submit. I love my results but it is hurting my brain trying to decide what to do. I wish I could see the players guide, that would help so much.

Pyromaniac gnome elemental totem barbarian is a good standby. You can allways change your mind once the guide is out. :7)

Luke_Parry here.

Since the 'Jade Regent' Player's Guide is not available yet, but I am familiar with the Rise of the Rune Lords AP, I built Basil's background utilizing information about Sandpoint from there. If any part of it is contradicted once that guide comes out, I will happily change it :-)

I would like to present Basil Kettering, a LN Half-Elf Ranger 1 for consideration (a full stat-block is available on his profile).

Let me know if you would like any clarifications :-)

Appearance:
Basil is tall and muscular, with short-cropped black hair. He usually has a few-days growth of beard, and typically goes around in a well-worn explorer’s outfit. His skin is quite tanned, and he is usually surrounded by a faint earthy aroma.

Background:
The son of a well-known local Elven ranger named Shalelu, Basil's early years were spent traveling around the wilds of Varisia with his mother; his playgrounds were untamed forest clearings, and his friends were wild beasts, which his mother brought to him, in order to teach him what he would need to know in order to survive. Basil showed an aptitude for honest, hard work, and developed an affinity for the land his mother loved, and the natural creatures that dwelt therein.

However, a few years back, when the local Goblin tribes were worked-up into a frenzy, his mother thought it prudent to station him somewhere more permanent, whilst she went on ever-longer patrols. As a result, he ended-up in a small apartment on Brokestone Alley in the town of Sandpoint. Ironically, this was not a particularly wise choice, as it was not long before those self-same Goblins decided to attack the town in what ended-up being essentially a suicide raid. Fortunately, Basil was not harmed, but it did bring home to him that there was evil out there in the world...

After a few more years, once he had grown into his frame, he offered his services to Sherrif Hemlock, to act as a guide, scout, and some-time guard for the town, and its out-lying farmsteads. At presence, he leads a fairly comfortable existence: He still maintains his rooms on Brokestone Alley, but will disappear for weeks at a time, voyaging on long trips out into the wilds of Varisia, before suddenly turning-up again for a time, invariably with some hides, antlers, or even an entire carcass in tow, to pay his bills, rest for a time, and then stoically head out again.

Basil tends to move around the countryside, doing odd-jobs at the various outlying homesteads, or undertaking scouting missions for the Sherrif, like his mother before him. He never stays in one place for long, and his gruff demeanor has prevented him from making many friends. He also has a bit of a temper; slow to anger, when he does explode, the results are volcanic. This shames him a great deal, and he makes every effort to keep a lid on it, which only accentuates his natural shyness.

May I introduce Gundkri. Half-orc melee ranger.

Hoping to see the player's guide soon to finish in the last little details.

Howdy this is Sollir.

Presenting Sharistan, Half-Varisian Bard (Geisha). Growing up hearing tales of Tian Xia from her father, Sharistan always dreamed of that mysterious continent. She revered the geisha and while going to school in Absalom incorporated the training that a woman of that profession has.

I built her to be a good 5th- wheel support character. She's got a few buffs (Inspire Courage), debuffs (Daze, Sleep), and healing (Cure Light Wounds). She can work as a face character and has a few Knowledge skills up her sleeve (I can switch these around a little if you don't end up picking a Wizard or Cleric with Arcana/Religion). I ended up using the higher stat roll but would be happy re-building her with the lower one.

Thanks for your consideration!
