I'm in a PBP where we have a pally/synthesist. His backstory is that his edilion is actually an angel who uses his body to act upon the material plane. The closer their bond (ie higher level) the more he can manifest on the prime.
I love this flavor and I want to hear more ideas for the synthesist. With a one line description and maybe a few short notes on edilion build lets see what you got.
For example:
1) Pally is the vessel for an angel; humanoid, flaming wings, etc

Same class combo, but ours is the son of a barbarian chieftain who manifests his totem( a Golden Bear )going on "coming of age" quest.

A character who's eidolon is their worst nightmare come to life, like Tildie Soames in Astonishing X-Men or Wolverine and the X-Men.

Hehe...I had the same thought, but it was the son of a Barbarian Chieftain manifesting a wolf totem.

I found this thread helpful for building my PCfor this weekend so I do think it is worth neroing in hopes it helps someone else in the future. Though please forgive the descriptions being a bit more than a single sentence.
I'm thinking about doing a take on The Mechanist from both Fallout 3 and 4.
In Fallout 3, The Mechanist used robots to defend his town. I can say my synthesist summoned monsters to protect their town. Maybe after she got banned from town after actcidentally sending her summons against a local half Orc who she thought was one of the raiding orcs. It was easy to make the mistake, especially from far away. to avoid such again, she found a way to envelop her self in a combat suite that aloowed her to get into the thick of things and see the enemy up close to never make the same mistake again. Or maybe she feared that if she did not leave, her arch rival would hurt innocent bystanders trying to eliminate the synthesist.

In 4, The Mechanist didn't feel confident in social interactions with other people. When wearing The Mechanist suite that changed the sound of her voice, she gained much more confidence. I might try role playing this angle as well. I' thinking about taking some popular wrestler personality and acting like that in the suite.
Mage Evolving |
It's not unique but I'm playing the incredible hulk or more accurately Bruce Banner.
My DM only approved the Synthesist because I said I would rarely if ever use my Eidolon. 99% of the time I simply summon monsters, wield a slew of wands, and buff the party. In game, the eidolon is a manifestation of my worst nightmares and emerges only in times of great peril. As a matter of fact I actively try to suppress it (in game I have to fail a will save and then I can summon it via the summon Eidolon spell.) However, the creature is largely mindless and only attacks those things that are attacking me or my party. Once I turn I simply pounce and annihilate. No tactics, no spells, no playing it safe. Afterwards I am fatigued for 1 minute then shaken for 1 hour.
It severely handicaps my character but truth be told no one in the party is optimized and the 4 times I failed my will-save I utterly destroyed everything in the room. My party was convinced I was a poorly designed wizard until the first time I turned. Now they know I'm a poorly designed Synthesist. That said it's one of the funnest games and characters I've played in my 30+ years of gaming.
