It is still in print, as are all teams. You can order it/them via the GW homepage. Must be among the expert systems.

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

This weekend is going to be pretty brutal - I don't know if I will have enough strength left to post much - if I hold up HoR or HoJ, pleasy take over for me, I will be back on tuesday for sure.

You are quite welcome!

Man it's quiet time again in the games!

Must say though, I am rather enjoying the GM'ing angle... although WHY I decided to run two groups is a bit beyond me :p

I apologize for my part with DM'ing Shifty. Work is being work, and our 1 year old has decided that sleeping at 7-8pm is out of fashion and prefers the more erudite bedtime of midnight.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Nah mate all good :) I think the players are just as quiet (if not worse!) there can always be idle chatter inbetween waiting for the GM... but when people dont act on their turn for week it makes me cry.

/votekick idle players! ;p

Sorry, too many MMOFPS games.

I am trying my best to keep up, but I am hoping to make some major changes in RL, and this is cutting into my time to PBP. Sorry about the delay in HoJ. If I am ever up in any campaign and forget to post for a day, please shoot me a PM or kick me in the OOC. Usually it means I read the thread and then was distracted by something - work, kids, RL - followed by forgetting to get back to the thread later.

I am having a damned good time in the games I am in these days. I think I hit the right mix of characters and pace. I decided that my Warhammer dwarf has a past as a Blood Bowl player and not shield slamming is much more fun, lol.

It is certainly a change being Mr GM, but I am enjoying it. The pace seems to be going pretty well too - and if we keep at this rate we will have no worries at all cracking the deadline :)

Shifty, are these PFS games you're running? Because if not, you could always institue a "X hours (maybe 48?) of no posting and you're autopiloted." We do 24 hours in one of our games, everyone agrees, it works.

If trhey're PFS, then you cna't really autopilot. At least, the DM can't; I wonder if the players can???

I say given the characters typical actions they could put a set of rolls to be used and an action in a spoiler to cover a missed day.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yeah they are PFS. So far no one has missed a timer in either group.

I'm not a fan of autopilot, though I will accept short term proxy with notice, otherwise its probably /votekick!

Big <thumbsup> to you Shifty for running not one but two PFS games. Really appreciate it. Ive been interested in it for some time so it's cool to get started. And doubly cool to have Bilbo along!

And with my meds leveled out my characters have lost their strong murderous a%#%&%+ streak, lol.

@ZZ, Try as you might,Fernis will not be joining the Slayer cult so easily. Rangnir Came into his own and that was a pretty epic battle between the bull man and dwarf. I thought I was going to bite it there for a sec, lol. Timely intervention by the crew and what not.

Khorne has put your name on a certain list...

Well that list must have ventured over to real life this morning and taken the form of my Fiskars axe. While honing a nice edge on that beast it bit a nice groove into two of my fingers, lol. Blood for the Blood God!

Male Wandering Nomad 3

Is anyone there? I'm curious about something... has anyone ever had/witnessed a PC death in a PbP?

I'm wondering because there is a high chance a PC in my homebrew campaign is about to die... and I dunno if I should take things a little leniently or not. They're level 2, it was an ambush by a CR 2 Water Wraith, and the poor guy's been enlarged by the party which lowered his AC and now he'll be con damaged and ravaged by claws and teeth to within 1 or 2 hp from death -- and the party doesn't have anyone else with the Heal skill, nor any potions or healing spell capabilities. It looks bleak. I'll think about it, but maybe I'll just be a little lenient on the con damage penalties to give them a few more rounds to try.

I've just never seen an actual death in a PbP. Have you guys experienced it before?

Kill him. Otherwise we should only get Nerf swords and tickle feathers. I have no qualms about getting whacked in any game I play. People need to buck up a little. What is the worst thing that happens? He makes another character and his buddies don't go off using spells that have the potential to screw you without asking first.I bet he was loving the extra combat benefits till they turned on him, yeah? I mean, for Pete's sake it already takes several rounds to bleed out as it is. I miss lose your head crits. Now if you want a kinder, gentler monster that is your choice. But, as a player I want to face death as a very real possibility. Z almost whacked my Warhammer character, but I get the sense he held back a little....;), I would have not at all been upset as it is just good story telling. Especially in Warhammer.

VC - Sydney, Australia

I should think it happens at the same rate as table play.

Dungeon Master

I just experienced a player character's death in a campaign last week. However, after the character's death, there were a lot of hidden posts between the player and the DM. A hero point was expended and the player miraculously recovered. However, we were not sure what was going to happen. It was still very scary.

Last time I killed a player he was irrevocably killed, eaten alive by a coven of Hags.

Male Pale Master

I had a PC die recently in a PBP but the DM hand waved that he used Hero Points to stay alive...not sure how it worked since I would have been at around -40 HP

I swear that if my character is brought back I better have to roll to save versus polymorph so I don't end as a toad, lol.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

I have seen PCs die several times in campaigns. We lost a completely insane, but fun, goblin rogue in one Way of the Wicked campaign a few weeks ago. And a cleric in my Age of Worms campaign took a crit from a great axe at level 3. One hit and dead.

Male Wandering Nomad 3

Well I guess I was just nervous because I hadn't seen it done, yet, though I've been on these forums for years. But if it's that common elsewhere, I won't feel bad :).

I think he might actually be able to pull through, anyway... especially if they do a quick search of the area (I'd written in a body with some potions on it nearby). They've got more like 4 rounds instead of 1 or 2 -- I'd miscalculated earlier.

I nearly killed Winter last week 3d20 damage - sorry mate - but the dice roller decided to keep him alive :)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yeah 3d20 to a level 5 PC -hmmmm! Think ZZ forgets that the Second Darkness guys aren't as tough as the rest of the groups :P

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Just want to make it an exciting experience^^

One more headbutt from that minotaur would have closed the coffin on Fernis and a grudge against the beastmen of the Reikland would been entered in the book of grudges. lol.

In the USA, it is only scary when the side you do not support gets elected. Actually, come to think of it, in the USA, no matter who gets elected, it is scary.

Agreed. The first four years you feel like you made a good choice. The next 4 you are sure that the Lord of Change has taken hold and expect to see an eight pointed star on the bastard, lol.

I just saw that FFG was handing the rights of Dust over to a New Zealand firm. Any word on how this is going to affect the prices of the models. Dust is pretty affordable, though some of the models are a bit more than I think is necessary like the planes. I would hate to see it jump up there with Warhammer anything.

Did everyone get mauled by bears on the way to the hippy dip?

Male Pale Master

whats a hippy dip?

VC - Sydney, Australia

Bears as in the four legged Grizzly Adams type, or bears as in large hairy gay men? Whats a hippy dip?

Out in the American states of Colorado and Utah hippy dips are natural springs where stinky hippies go and bath together, often during camping trips. Terrible things, lol. And let's go with a beastman of Slaanesh combo of what you described, Shifty. Far more frightening than one or the other, lol.

Has spring sprung? All my games have been dead lately. I thought my basement dwelling gamer friends were immune to the charms of fair weather and the allure of the outdoors.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Dunno, my players seem to be sticking to their posting requirements, the threads are at around 160 odd posts in 12 days, can't complain! They are tearing through First Steps 1, and we are ahead of the deadline. That said, a lot of the games I am in are crawling along... which is a bit frustrating, I'd like a much higher tempo - or more games to post in.

The new PFS PbP I joined is moving along ok too I suppose!

Male Pale Master

most of mine hae slowed to a crawl in the last couple of weeks...except for DM Shifty's PFS game. We're trucking right along!

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yep, loving the work rate from my players.

PBP GMing is a little 'different', but I think I have it all worked out, so far everyone seems pretty pleased with it all.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Yeh - most of my campaigns have slowed down. I keep trying to kick some of them, but I only have so much energy and have gotten tired of trying to drag a number of the campaigns along behind me.

VC - Sydney, Australia

See this is where you guys must be a bit more patient than I am, because I would really resent having to drag things along... it would really get my goat.

Male Orc Expert 5

You have to do ti in real games too when players get lost. Par for the course for me. In other news the actions system in skull and shackles is poor suited to pbp.

We smashed through the first module of our Warhammer playtest pretty fast. I think we have gotten the kinks mostly worked out and it is a pretty fun game, though the Warhammer world is the one I enjoy above most others. Nice that the fluff pretty well rolls along no matter who is making the mechanics.

VC - Sydney, Australia

I have managed to avoid the dreaded 'drag' in face to face gaming, it used to be a real pain in the backside until I discovered doing post session debriefs after a session and then a briefing before the next session (several days out) to get everyone back up to speed.

Otherwise we ended up with people forgetting what happened two weeks ago and what was going on. Facebook group chats seem to have fixed this... similarly all the 'admin' gets done offline so that game time is game time, I also expect notice if someone wants to do something that will knowlingly tie up a lot of game time so that it can be resolved and prepared for as much as possible in advance, once again, these games are all about momentum, and (lack of) speed kills.
