Phew, tough weekend. DMed on both saturday and sunday. Sorry guys for the lack of posting these days, was getting some work done for this weekend's marathon.

What have you DMed?

Obligatory Dice Candy Kickstarter Spruik

I backed his original d6 kickstarter and he's doing wood and solid metal polysets this time around. Expensive - yes, but also remarkably cool given the wide range of colour and grain patterns that woods can generate.

VC - Sydney, Australia

I REALLY like them (and the other KS for metal dice, inc Titanium) but just can't justify the $'s.

On the other hand, it does make me want to get all crafty, I enjoy building things by hand, maybe time to learn how to do these...

Aye - it does cater to those with disposable income to burn... but I really like the ones I've got in hand as well so am more than happy to punch up for some more. A lot of the cost comes from the hand finishing of each of the dice after the CNC mill has rough cut the polyhedral shapes.

d6s aren't too hard to make - my brother whipped up a couple with some rudimentary woodworking tools himself and a drill press to put the dots on. There are a large variety of hardwoods sold in Australia as 'pen blanks' which are roughly the right size as well.

eg. This is a WA mob that collects burl and such from the Goldfields. The prices generally at around $3 for a blank that you could make 3-4 dice from.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Nice :)

Luckily I have access to a crazily equipped woodworking shop too - artists in the family heavily into wood turning... I have pointed out that there is a lot of interest in woodwork on KS, but there's no real enthusiasm shown yet and they prefer to stick to selling at trade shows and galleries.

Well if you could convince them to turn out a Red Mallee Burl dice cup or two - I'd pay for the service :)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Whats a dice cup?

It's like the little pouch that comes with backgammon kits - or what the pirates on Davy Jones' ship use during the Liar's Dice game.

Banksia seed pod dice cup

Leather one

Basically lets you roll your dice - then if you're playing Liar's dice you keep the cup on top of your dice so that they're hidden during the bidding process.

Ahhh Banksia seeds, another soft spot I have.

So many lovely natural materials laying about and no one uses them.

On reflection, the last thing I ended up making was a set of stakes whilst camped out in a pine forest whilst off on an Army jaunt. When asked 'why?', I looked right at the enquirer with a deadly serious look and simply replied 'because our bullets wont stop vampires'. I have great respect for my mates that they all played along straight faced.
Army... really long periods of tedium and boredom interspersed with short bursts of violence and intense action.

Shifty - We need your dragon to make a fort save in VooDoo's fire campaign.

Huh? Is dice cup a new concept for you anglophonics?

Not to me. But I never have any practical use for one.

I imagine australians fear that there may be some horrible, venomous, and terrible surprise hidden with opaque cups.

Ah yeah that makes sense...spider, octopus, crocodile, shark, another spider...

Sharoctospiderdile. Little known mammal of Australia. Rarely seen minus the one who lives in Chuck Norris' beard.

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Wow - even the Australian Wolpertinger is vile and poisonous...

Stepped out on to my porch this morning and discovered that I owned a "small, viscous cat." My porch had two dead voles and my yard is littered with the carcasses of various small rodents, lol.

Scarab Sages

Better check your cellar for Skaven infestation ;-)

Fey, I saw a dragon the other day, but Ratmen, I don't think they could be real at all.:)

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Hah...did you look for marsupial Skaven?

Watch out for those were-roos. The 30' jump pounce attack combined with a their unarmed flurry of blows is deadly.

Got cats one of those automatic litter pans. Cats flipped the F out and attacked my socks, as if they were the ones making the noise. Stupid cats.

Rise of the Runelords, the earlier chapters (the Skinsaw Murders specifically). The ranger's asskicker firepelt animal companion got one-shotted by a crit from a certain Scarecrow (the ranger ran away to survive) and the paladin has been abducted and swapped with a faceless stalker. Fun times!

I expect they'll go to the Shadow Tower next session and have a second round with the Scarecrow. Let's see!

Hmmm Lita Ford playing locally, second most dreamy metal chick next to Doro Pesch. Think I might buy tickets... wish Doro would come down under...erm, thats not as bad as it sounds.

DM ZZ just a reminder that I have to report for Jury Duty Monday morning. Hopefully I'm not selected but if I am someone will need to take over for Bree and Alana until I return (whenever that may be, but return I will!)

Male Pale Master

you wont have access to the internet? is it some sort of sequestered murder trial or something?

VC - Sydney, Australia

Ugh, Jury duty!

Male Pale Master

I had it once and actually got picked for the jury. It was a personal injury case that resulted from a car accident. 8 hour day for a whopping $30 or so.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

I won't know anything until I get called, if I get called so it's possible it could be, but I doubt it.

sooo exactly how many Australians get bitten by venomous snakes each year? probably more than actually catch rabbits if this is the customary manner of going about it...

sssss. be fewy fewy quiet. i'm hunting wabbits...

um?

Some stats available.

The estimated incidence of snakebites annually in Australia is between 3 and 18 per 100,000 with an average mortality rate of 0.03 per 100,000 per year.

It just occurred to me that I hadn't divulged this information or asked your feelings about it, DM Zyren, and I'm sorry for it.

I own the hardback Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition and have read some (maybe most) of the campaign in preparation to DMing. I DM the campaign for one of my groups, and we are at the very end of book 2. Are you comfortable with that at all? I try to separate player-character knowledge and generally err on the side of ignorance, but I'd understand perfectly if you would prefer someone with no knowledge at all.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Well, as long as you keep your knowledge and don't start spreading it :) I'm fine with that.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Can we draw and quarter him?

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Only if you hang him first.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Went to the Jury Duty thing today, sat there all day, bored out of my mind. No cases were sent to jury, we were all excused.

Male Pale Master

First day at the new job. Wow, whole new planet really.

Watching "300" makes me feel the need to workout just in case I ever meet a very large man who keeps asking me to kneel.lol.

Ya know . . . I wish they had made the blood "stay" in 300. I felt the blood effects were way too cartoon-ey (and not in a good way). I was also ticked at the fact that they managed to catch exactly ONE Immortal in their dead bodies trap, rather than the many they got in the graphic novel. Not worth the effort to just get one.

BBB - no need for working out... just carry a claw hammer

Oldboy is a rough one, lol. The director of that film has just released a film with Nicole Kidman. And I am going to get my claw hammer now.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Nice Hammer.

My buddy had one back in '98 and I have been in love with that line ever since. They feel pretty good in the hand, too.

Watched "Zulu" the other day. Great film. Real life story is a good read, also. Michael Caine is one of my favorite actors and his role here was pretty damned enjoyable.
