Dark Archive

As Kevin's Council of Thieves draws to poetic close and John's Kingmaker reaches its far reaching conclusion, our thoughts are of Spring in the air and new beginnings.

And there is nothing that screams of Springtime like Vampires, Hags, Werewolves and most dread Cthulhu (Cthulhu Fhtagn Cthulhu Fhtagn).

John and I were chatting as merry men of Greece are wont to do and he has an idea to present.

So keep a stake at the ready, jugular vein bared, and an eye on this thread, for soon the Stars will be Right, and we can all howl at the moon as all our Springtime nightmares come true.

That certainly sounds promising to me :-)

Interest piqued.

While my first ever PBP character would seem *perfect* for an undead heavy game in a country that has Urgathoa as one of it's top three dieties, it would seem terribly uncreative.

Perhaps some other deliciously appropriate idea will bubble to the top...

Baron, are you talking about a PbP game, or an "in-person" game in Manhattan?

I am still getting all my wereducks in a row, and the simple answer to your question, "yes".

i'd like to propose St. Eclair Radiance Solaras Dawnbringer

Adolescent Angel Blooded Apprentice Dervish of the Dawnflower.

Unarmored Aasimaar Spring Attack focused Inquisitor to be exact

may i request the ability to trade my armor and shield proficies for the monk's unarmored AC bonus like a certain 3.5 edition clerical unearthed arcana variant?

this character is in no way meant to be optimized and would refuse to wear armor because it hinders her mobility. which she deems her biggest aspect and beleives the dawnflower has blessed her with amazing evasive gifts.

and since i plan on taking dervish dance at level 3 if this character is approved. and mobility is her big focus. her armor class is going to suck to the point of nonviability but i think she would be fun to play.

While you do that, here is a character for you to consider:

Khair (pronounced Ky-ear) Borzoo NG Human (Kelish descent) Cleric of Sarenrae Hails from Qadira originally.
Personality and Appearance:
He stands just under six feet tall with soft brown hair cut short enough not to be in his way in a fight, dark soulful eyes and an easy smile. He has a beautiful light copper tint to his skin, a product of his faith, and well-toned muscles from his years of training with a scimitar. In the presence of friends, his flock or generally good people Khair is a soft spoken polite young man easily likable and friendly. But when faced with evil (particularly supernatural evil creatures such as undead or evil outsiders) he fights with a righteous fury so fierce others swear he is possessed by Sarenrae herself.
Background:
Born the second son of minor Qudiran nobles Khair always knew he would not be heir to his father's station. He made his peace with it at an uncharacteristically early age and asked to be sent to train at the church of Sarenrae and ultimately become a priest. He looked forward to the day he would complete his training and come back as an advisor to his brother and bring much honor upon his family. Upon returning from his completed training he found his ancestral home in ruins. His brother had squandered away all of his father's money and had gone missing. To date all attempts he has made to contact him both magic and mundane have failed...

Avarinelle Lifeblossom, NG Gnome Oracle of Life.

Personality and Appearance: Stricken blind at an early age by a strange disease, Avarinelle has always been concerned by the lifeforce which flows and ebbs in the world around her and she has a strange ability to sense. She stands at 3 feet tall with long blond hair and piercing blue eyes that always look through something instead of at it. She seems to glow with a living energy which she gladly shares with others.
Background: Avarinelle has wandered much of her life over great distances, and has only recently begun to face her blindness with developed inner strength. More background after I read the player's guide. :)

Shuriken, please stop submitting characters as an outlet for your sexual fantasies involving children. A child whose inner thigh is exposed and tattooed is clearly inappropriate. As a frequent DM, I would never allow you to play in one of my games. As a cop, every instinct I have about a potential predator is going off. The community has talked to you about it in the past, yet you continue to present the problem.

the post is now gone and i have no sexual fantasies about children, i just wanted to be creepy enough to fit ustalav. i'm sorry if i came across as predator. i might watch a few questionable anime, but tis the farthest i go.

my satuday DM also runs 'R' rated campaigns that tend to be overly explicit. whether we like it or not.

and Inner thigh could easily be substituted with 'Above the knee'

i apologize for offending this group.

i beat my left wrist 10 times in punishment

and next time, i should put my character concepts under a 'Not Safe for Work' spoiler.

you could read a confession of my intent in gamer connection. a confession of the archtype i wish to perfect. the archtype that thrills me most.

if you wish not to accept me, i can wait and apply for another pbp.

Two clerics come to mind (a third cleric of Pharasma circles the drain, as I can't summon up a compelling concept for it);

Khemreti Noor
N Female Human Cleric 1 of Urgathoa

Spoiler:
‘Khemreti’ pretends to be a youthful Osirioni student of funerary practices. Her real name is Stanislaza, and she is an escaped Varisian slave, who hides the slave-brand on her upper left arm, has had a rough life, and only survived an attack upon the holdings of her owner by hiding among a pile of dead bodies, and, to her eternal shame, eating of their flesh to survive the days she remained hidden from those who ransacked the place. Her child was killed in the attack, and she has buried his body in the woods (leaving the manor to burn), marking its location for her eventual return, as she has sworn to the Pallid Princess to return and raise him from the dead… Technically, no one is really looking for her, but she does not wish to take any chances, and the slaughter and burning of her owner’s estate was never solved. She has travelled across Ustalav, in her guise as wandering scholar of morbid practices, hoping to avoid any entanglement with those who may be investigating that incident. Her Osirioni is book-learned, and a native speaker may find it stilted and accent-less, making it somewhat obvious to them that she’s not a native (or, at least, hasn’t been for a long, long time). She cultivates an exotic appearance, with head shaved but for a long red-henna-dyed braided scalplock that she wears coiled like a serpent atop her crown, her left eye decorated with the ‘eye of power’ in thick black mascara. She carries a tome that she treats like a spellbook, filled with writings and observations in Osirioni script (which a native reader will recognize as somewhat old-fashioned in its style, as, again, she learned from old books, not contemporary speakers or writers), and mostly consists of information she has learned, and observances about the faith of Urgathoa. If a viewer thinks her a wizard, she makes no attempt to correct them, unless called upon to reveal her divine powers, and even then allows others to conclude that she follows a different death-goddess, if not specifically challenged on this point.
Channel negative energy – Command Undead feat a must.

Radu Solzeni
CG Male Human Cleric 1 of Desna

Spoiler:

The stereotypical Varisian, Radu wears baggy red trousers (somewhat faded from wear), well-worn leather boots, a bright blue sash, and a chain shirt, with a black vest hanging open over it. His curly black hair is held out of his face by a red bandana, and pulled back into a haphazard ponytail as well, and yet still has forelocks dangling into his eyes, from time to time. His thick moustache and short beard do nothing to hide his ready smile, only somewhat spoiled by the noxious chewleaf he prefers, that have stained his teeth reddish-brown at the gums. No less than four necklaces sit around his throat, although only one has a metal chain, the others being leather cords supporting small medallions bearing the holy symbols of Calistria, Cayden Cailean and Shelyn, made of copper, tin and brass, respectively. On the metal chain, a more prominent holy symbol to Desna rests. He is never without his Harrow Deck, although he keeps it in a special pouch of soft leather secured to his belt, and often rests a hand on it possessively, regarding it as more sacred a possession than even his holy symbol. Radu brings his services as priest and fortune-teller to the local Varisian population, offering a reading or some spellcraft for a roof and warm meal for the night, and he’s pleasant enough company that he’s never lacking in options on that account.
Channels positive energy – Harrowed feat a priority

When he channels energy to harm undead, fluttering butterflies of softly glowing stardust in pastel colors pour forth and flock around the undead, sinking into their dead forms like hot iron into water, leaving behind burnt holes in the shapes of butterflies. When he heals the living, the same butterflies flutter forth, and alight on the wounded, winking out as they drain the pain away in a twinkling of stardust that falls from the wounds, leaving them cleansed and whole.

Radu would 'play better' with a group that includes a lot of good characters, Paladins, or faithful of Sarenrae, Iomedae or Pharasma.

Khemreti isn't evil, but the command undead option isn't gonna fly with a party that's not particularly tolerant of that sort of thing.

Looks like no one has posted an Arcane class yet.

I submit Rautha Dracos.

N Human Necromancer (undead subschool)

background:

Rautha Dracos Grew up in a Small Fishing Village outside Ravengro, Canterwall. He Father was a Fisher, his Mother a Teacher. His Life wasn't Easy, but it was Safe. Far from the Borders of Virlych and the Dreaded Gallowspire, His Village thought they would be safe when the rumors of whole villages being swallowed up by the Mists around the Virlych borders. "we'll be fine!, Lastwall patrols will catch any wandering undead that come our way.." said the Town Mayor. The Mayor could not have been more wrong. With in hours of the meeting ending, the village was attacked by members of the Whispering Way.

First, Mists rolled in, thick as soup; then, came the Undead, followed by their Masters. They slaughtered anyone who put up a fight, Capturing those who they could. Rautha watched the whole thing from a hiding spot under his family's Porch. The Undead where unstoppable, they resisted the Pitch forks and arrows the Men of the town weilded against them. Once the Village had been taken, the members of the way, rounded up the Feeble, the weak, and killed them. " easyier to bring back, this way, less whining..." He heard one say.

After the attack, only Rautha Survived, if you call it Survival. He was scared, broken. He was so overcome by the power of those undead, so wanting revenge for his village that he could only come to one conclusion.

To fight the undead, he must use undead.

Taking all he could from his Family home, He fled North to Vieland, where he enrolled in Wizarding School, At First he was rejected. No honest Wizarding school would willing train someone in the art of necromancy. Rautha having a Clever side from his Mother, re-enrolled a month later under a Different Name, Claiming to was a Study in Divination. He was accepted, but eventually Caught and expelled his 2nd year. He was caught late at night on a Full moon, After attempting to cast a Spell above his Power. but not any spell, a Necromancy Spell.. After collecting his things, He Heard Rumors of a Professor who was more.. Open minded.. and Set out to enroll under Professor Lorrimor. With a Quick wit, and a photographic memnory, Ratutha quickly became a teacher's Pet to the professor.

This whole build is highly mutable if unacceptable. Even toying with the ideaof turning him into an inquisitor.

Dante Andraso CG Dhampir Ninja: HISTORY:

On a dark night in the depths of Ustalav a group of necromancers gathered in an abandoned crypt. Years of planning and manipulation led up to this night as a young initiate lay upon a stone slab. A vampire walked slowly down the steps from the back. His hair was black his eyes were a deep brown with reddish highlights. He wore a curved blade through a sash he wore in place of a belt.

He walked up to her as he let his clothes fall to the ground his sword falling with a clang as he prepared to complete the ritual. When the young woman began to think about what she had done and joined she panicked and ran hiding out in lastwall. She gave birth to Dante who will be known to others as "Edge".

Dante grew up always feeling different than the other children around him. He always felt different. He never liked being out in sunlight it always made his skin tingle and hurt his eyes. Though the darkness never scared him like the other children. He would often sneak out after dark almost every night. He felt more at home in the shadows than in the light.

When he turned 10 a strange man showed up saying he was hear from his father. He told him he was what they call a dhampir and that he had an important future and that he didn't belong among humans. He also pulled out a curved blade the hilt was covered in white ray skin with black cloth around it. The blade was bone white. It was at this point that his mother came out of their small house and threw water on the man and he began to smoke. He lashed out with his hand his fingers curled up in. A claw and tore out her throat.

He turned to Dante and smiled as he saw him awkwardly holding the blade in both hands. Dante rushed him and swung hitting nothing but air as the man moved behind him and wrapped his arm around his neck. He then took a thin dagger and dragged it down his face cutting from his forehead down over his right eye and down to his chin.

He then told him in a whisper that someday they would still have use for him and dropped him to the ground and slammed his fist into the side of his head knocking him unconscious. He woke up a few hours later and ran from the house clutching the sword that he had used to his chest.

He spent the next few years stealing and barely surviving. He found he had a knack for pickpocketing. He was caught a few times but he would always get out with the lockpick set he would hide in his clothing. He made the mistake of trying to pickpocket what he thought at the time to be an easy mark, but it ended up being the person who would become like a father to him Professor Lorrimor.

Lorrimor asked how he got the scar on his face and when Dante told him Lorrimor began to teach him about the undead. Over the next few years Dante learned more and more about the undead. He also learned how to fight from an associate of Lorrimor's who had a particular set of skills that he learned.

It was during this time that he met a changeling named (Cyra) who was often with Lorrimor often. The two of them quickly fell in love and started a relationship. The two of them began to travel the world and explore. It was during this time that they got a letter at one of the inns they had set up to receive messages that Lorrimor had passed and that they were to come to Ravengro as they were mentioned in his will. So the recently married couple begin to head towards the man who had changed their lives and brought them together funeral with heavy hearts.

Kevin Darlok
Fighter/ Aldori Swordlord

Description:
With a charming smile and a glint of mischief in his eye, Kevin Darlok is the quintessential noble’s son. At 6 foot tall and 190 pounds, he is tall and athletically built, he sports finely tailored clothing that shows wear from 3 months of living on the road. Slung low on his left hip is his true prized possession and badge of honor, an Aldori dueling sword.

Background:
"Women. If there is a root of all evil, its women. Is it any wonder there is a goddess of madness, monsters, and nightmares and not a god? But how am I to resist? They smile and wink and I would do anything.
That’s why I am here, walking down this road with all that I own on my back, and not sitting in my fathers manor with my dogs by my side in front of a nice warm fire. No, here I am choking on dust, and staring at a horse’s backside. All because of a smile from one pretty girl."

Kevin hails from Mivon in the River Kingdoms. Son of a minor noble, his days consisted of lounging, foxhunts, and sword practice. His nights, though, consisted of paying homage to his deity Cayden Cailean, womanizing, and spending his fathers money. After being discovered in a compromising position, a young lady’s betrothed challenged him to a duel of which Kevin was victorious. He believed that the Aldori Dueling rule that the outcome of a duel shall not be the cause for vendetta would protect him. Little did he know that the challenger was the son of a local crime lord who did not agree. Seeing that it would be better for his own wellbeing, Kevin decided to try his hand at adventuring.

After 3 months of traveling from town to town as a caravan guard and spending his last copper in the best tavern he could find, Kevin happened on a mugging. Brandishing his sword he entered the fray slaying two thugs and being wounded himself. As he lay bleeding the man being mugged began to administer first aid to him with the skill of a surgeon. The man helped Kevin back to his Inn and introduced himself as Professor Petros Lorrimor. The good Professor continued to care for Kevin until he regained his health. During this time Kevin took a great liking to the kind old man. They talked in great length about Kevin’s homeland of Mivon, and of the professors home of Ravengro, and for a time Kevin acted as a bodyguard for the professor during his travels, but the call for adventure always loomed over him until finally they parted ways.

Over a year had passed from their last meeting when the messenger delivered the news of Professor Lorrimor’s death. Kevin was saddened by the news and has journeyed to Ravengro to bear witness for such a good man.

Still taking applications?
If so, here is my app for Skyrn, son of Maekar.

History:

Though he is scarcely more than two decades old, Skyrn has already lived a long, hard life for his people. Hailing from the northern tribes of the Kellid tribes which inhabit the lands of the Worldwound, Skyrn has fought against horrors and abominations of the Abyss ever since he was old enough to fight. Like many of his people he would probably be dead by now if it were not for Professor Lorrimor; just over two years ago a strange bookish man traveled into the Worldwound region, looking for first-hand information and experience regarding the hordes of the Abyss. Unsurprisingly his caravan got attacked by a group of demons one day as they got lost in the twisted, corrupted landscape of the region, but the Professor and a lucky few of his men were saved by a strange group of savage tribesmen that had been hunting this particular group.
Once assured that they were not enemies or demons in disguise, the tribesmen took the Professor and his men back to their camp and gave them food and water so that they may rest and recuperate before being strongly encouraged to leave this land. One of the men in the group that saved the professor was the young Skyrn who already showed great promise and skill as a leader of his people, despite his gruesome appearance as a result of a childhood run-in with the Tainted Plague, for he had a keen intellect and a surprisingly curious mind once he discovered that the Professor was a teacher and a scholar. In the short time that the Professor stayed with this tribe, Skyrn was practically attached to the Professor, constantly asking him questions of all manner of things, ranging from nature and history to topics that were taboo in his tribe, such as the nature of magic in its many forms. As the Professor grew ready to leave, Skyrn knew that he would ever be restless if he did not join the Professor in his travels, and so seeking the permission of both the Professor and his tribe, he left with the Professor, hoping to learn more of the world at large.
Sensing the same potential within him that those of his tribe did, the Professor taught Skyrn many things in the months as they traveled back to the home of Lorrimor in Ustalav, who then paid for Skyrn to attend one of the schools in that nation, so that he might learn more of all manner of things. And so a new chapter in Skyrn's life opened as he attended the University of Lepidstadt, and while he has gotten into the habit of wearing clothes that completely conceal his appearance and his visage, he has shown quite the talent for alchemy. And so Skyrn has stayed at the University for the past year or so (still keeping in occasional contact with the Professor through letters), learning as much as he could from his professors and his books (though none could compare to the talent of Professor Lorrimor, at least in Skyrn's eyes) and also learning the hard way of how people can act, for his warped flesh has drawn the ire of more than a few of the superstitious folk that inhabit the Immortal Principality. Recently Skyrn has received a letter from his old friend, the Professor, but rather than being one their typical correspondences, it was one summoning him to the reading of his last will and testament, and so Skyrin left the University (taking a few of his books with him) and set out for the hometown of Professor Lorrimor; the small town of Ravengro.

Appearance and Personality:

Tall, as is many of his tribe, Skyrn stands nearly six and a half feet tall, all of it strong, tanned muscle, which makes quite a distinctive sight at the University, as very few scholars were capable of looking him in the eye. Making him even more distinctive than his size though, is his face; great scars and warped flesh, similar to burns in their appearance, cover the left side of his face and stretch down his left arm, chest, and reach all the way to his knee. While this type of injury is common among his people, usually as a side effect of the Tainted Plague, it has made Skyrn a bit of an outcast among the other students, and as a result he has taken to wearing large robes with hoods that cover his entire body. With his half raven-black, half snow-white hair that goes to his shoulder blades, and is frequently swept in front of his face as to hide his scars, Skyrn is capable of cutting quite the impressive figure.
While not as well-mannered or cultured as many of his fellow students, Skyrn does have his own rough sense of honor that extends to those that get to know him well. While he is merciless while in a fight, and will cut down a foe without a moment's hesitation, he will frequently come to aid of those that need it or ask it. While not the most trusting individual, Skyrn does have a weakness for new lore and new knowledge, as he is immensely curious and perhaps still a touch naive as to the dangers that knowledge can bring.

Yes, it could be interesting.

To bad that one fell apart.

I would like to submit Death Harvester Lluren, the Undying.

N Human(maybe a retooled dhympire) Mobile Fighter(or maybe barbarian, rogue, ranger, I'm not to attached to a class)

Basic concept revolves around playing Death as a character. I'm not too familiar with the pathfinder pantheon so I don't know if there is an actual Death inspired creature or god, this would work better if there isn't one.

Appearance and personality: Lluren is tall and very lean, nearly to the point of being scrawny. His complexion is a sickly pale white with deep set dark brown almost black eyes. His face is gaunt like skin pulled tight over his skull. He is shaved clean of all hair. Llurens entire body is a study in human anatamony as he has every bone tattooed out on his flesh, which he learned the bones of the body from. The few people who actually know Lluren know that he is a very kind-hearted but deeply disturbed man. Those who don't know him find him stoic and unfriendly at best, a crazed husk of a man who lusts to murder the sick and the poor at worst. Slow to anger and action Lluren is like a boulder atop a mountain, once pushed too hard nothing will calm the destruction he leaves in his wake.

Background: Lluren is obsessed with death. This is mainly due to dying once himself. At the time he was a young normal sane farmer working on his family's farm. One morning Lluren left to work the fields early because he had some errand to attend to in town, what that errand was Lluren no longer remembers. That was when the orcs came. They killed him right there in the fields, Lluren didn't even put up a fight, when he saw the orcs he fled as fast as he could but was overtaken by the Orc hoards that descended on his farm and the town nearby.

As Lluren's soul floated in the ether he heard the words "it is not your time, there is much that you must do" With that Lluren awoke, barely able to stand he managed to get to his farm house, the place he grew up that was a half burned out husk of a building. There was no sign of his family, nor of any of thier livestock. Once he gained the strength he travelled into town and saw that there was no hope that his family had survived. That was the moment his mind snapped and he knew that this was to be both his past and his future. He had lived through death touched by it so that death could live through him.

From that point on he took his scythe and began to harvest the souls of those who were too sick or old to continue living. Or those who prayed on the living. Word of his reputation spread and some seeking a quick death would call on him in the small rural towns. What isn't spread is that fact that in the rural towns that he travels his healing skills are unparalleled. He saves many more people than he kills, but people will be people and they only focus on the bad but it's this healing that prevents the people from running him off.

Lluren grudgingly accepts his position of death harvester, but he never kills any he thinks as innocent unless he deems them incurable, but then his blade his swift.

With the healing skills you mentioned a Cleric of Pharasma(the goddess of death) might be a good fit.

It should be interesting if Avarinelle is selected also, since she is Life incarnate. :)

It would be a fit, like I said I'm open as to what class to make him, I'm just not sure whether he'd channel positive or negative. That'd be a tough call for me.

I would definitely go negative if that were the case for the duality, one of my favorite concepts, if you hadn't noticed.

It's looking as if no game is going to result from this.
