Schedule for Events, Games etc?

PaizoCon General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I was wondering how soon the schedule for the various Events, Games and other activities gets announced and then how soon after that is the sign up process?

Also, I'm really excited to meet Ed Greenwood this year! What exactly does it mean to be a Guest of Honor? Will Ed do actual seminars or Q&A's? Will he be at a table signing autographs?

Or does he just kind of hang out around the Con?

Thanks!

Wayne Reynolds was guest of honor last year. I remember seeing him around a lot. I think he did a little of all the above you mention.

Any news on the Schedule of events?? We are 2 months out. I know more about non Paizo events before and after paizocon than the events at Paizocon.

For PFS events, does anyone have any guidance on how I should be preping right now as a GM? Am I supposed to buy ($3.99) one of the PFS adventures (such as "Pathfinder Society Scenario #2-21: The Dalsine Affair" when it comes out in late May), prep it, and hope people sign up for it? Or will unigue PFS adventures be supplied to us before or during PaizoCon and we'll have a few hours to prep? Do I have to pay for and print them? Do I use the PFS page to register PFS events I want to run at PaizoCon?
It's great that the new PFS guide for running events was published the other day - that answered many questions I had. Since no such events are scheduled to be in my area it looks like I will have to run one before PaizoCon so I can get used to the paper work and focus just on the adventures when I get there.

For the non-PFS events I want to run, I have been busy writing and playtesting. Should I post information about them here to get players to want to sign up (I've noticed some other GMs doing this)? Or will there be a method for registering my events?

Also, is there going to be free or for cost Wi-Fi at PiazoCon? Trying to deside if I should bring my laptop.

Also, how long are the time slots? 3 hrs? 5 hrs? More? This obviously has an impact on the scope of adventures I am planning.

Have run a couple of games at PaizoCon last year, I can tell you the sessions run 5 hours. But some tables finish early.

If I remember right, the wireless internet is way too S-L-O-W. But, you do get wired internet in your room, which is decent.

Can't help you on the PFS questions. But I'm sure Hyrum or Mark will be reaching out to all the volunteers for running PFS games and give them the skinny soon enough. They won't leave you hanging.

We're about to begin a series of Paizo Blogs about PaizoCon that will, over the coming weeks, answer many of the questions posed in this thread, including (and especially) the event stuff.

This is very good news.

Another set of questions/requests:
I see that when players submit their official PFS PCs to the website that they type in stats and info about their PCs. For each event, will the GM have much of this info printed out in table form to help speed up the start of play? Is that what is on the "convention tracking sheets"? Otherwise I will have to gather that info at the table.

How quickly will the coordinator of my events be updating the website? I assume that I will not have to do this myself at PaizoCon (i.e. that I would not have to be the coordinator of events I GM like I would if I were running a PFS event outside of PaizoCon).

I have GMed at Gen Con for Paizo and I'm a local Venture Captain for Pathfinder Society. The information that PCs can enter on the website as part of their character registration process has never been provided to GMs in prior events. Since the information is optional, in my experience few, if anybody, has actually completed enough to be of benefit to a GM. The information present on the Pathfinder Society tracking sheets is the same information present on any sheet provided for a Pathfinder Society event (session number, module name, GM name/number, and player names/numbers/factions.

Again in my experience, if you are running an event outside of the sanctioned Pafthfinder Society play at a convention you are responsible for submitting the session sheets such as you would for any game that you are traditionally running outside of Paizo. As an example, the individual coordinating side events for Pathfinder Society in Indianapolis was responsible for his own reporting, even though Pathfinder Society was represented at Gen Con.

How do I run a PFS event WITHIN the sactioned PFS play... specifically at PiazoCon?

When the call goes out for volunteers, you'll email the organizer (probably Mark or Hyrum), and say how many slots you want to sign up for, and when you are available.

Assuming you're not running the only slot of that scenario, the room works out the seating arrangements (high sub-tier table, low sub-tier table, etc.). Then you introduce yourselves, gather the character info, and get started.

At the end, you'll record everyone's character society numbers (XXXX-X), faction, and prestige earned, and record the same on the chronicle sheets you provide to them. Turn in the record strip with the info, and you're done. Paizo will enter the data in the PaizoCon event. Everyone at the table has their chronicle sheets to move ahead with.

At this point, probably at least half of the people at your table will be familiar with the process and can guide you on the paperwork if anything isn't clear.

I'll just point to what Majuba said. Also, be aware that when the call goes out for Hyrum for Pathfinder Society GMs, he will provide not only a list of time slots for the games, but will assign a module to you, rather than let you pick the module yourself. You will get this module provided to you by Paizo ahead of time so you can prepare.

Any word yet when the actual event schedule will be released as well as when the event sign up / lottery process will start?

June's not that far away!!! :)

Paizo Employee Director of Narrative

Well, this blog said they are taking event submissions until April 27th, so I'd assume a week or so after that is when a schedule/lottery would go live.
