If you've ever thought about working in the gaming industry, now's your chance. In addition to the Pathfinder Developer and Editorial Intern positions already posted, we're also looking for a Digital Products Assistant, and we've revised the Software Developer job description a bit.
do you have any job openings for "I have lots of gaming experience and no education you are looking for but lots of good ideas??"

The application process is a little rigorous.

You know you guys need a geologist...badly. Badder than any of those other silly positions you keep mentioning...
nope, what they are missing, is a fat guy, that eats potatoe chips in his underware and complains about EVERYTHING and says "worst episode EVER" all day long.
Man did they hit the mother load of talent on THIS board!

If you are wiling to open a NY office, I could be your Digital Products Assistant. 16 years of photoshop, wed development, etc.
Any joking aside:
All Paizo positions are, and always will be, in our main office (currently Redmond). If we ever were to open a satellite office (something we're not planning on doing) it would very likely be just for faster shipping times and would only be a warehouse.
Our office workflow requires that people be physically present at the office. No tele-commuting, etc.
James and Wes and Erik have each written some pretty good treatises on why this is.

what kind of 'mook' jobs do you guys have? Packing, shipping, stamp lickers? or is that all basically outsourced?

Foghammer |

I don't know why I clicked on this thread. I have no hope of getting a job at Paizo, but I was curious, I guess.
I laughed harder reading this thread than I have reading almost any other, and this one is about real life (as opposed that RPG crap we talk about normally).
Go figure. (<3 the Firefly joke, btw.)

All of our shipping and receiving and such is taken care of in house. We currently have three warehouse people and Cosmo helps out during subscription runs.
And, rather than being a 'mook' job, the warehouse is a highly valued part of the team. Someone's gotta send those boxes out!

Without disclosing sensitive details on any of the entry-level Paizo positions... How much is an entry-level salary?
Here's another question for those in the know: can an out-of-state resident work in Washington? This is to say, would I have to take Washington residency in order to work in Washington?

what are the qualifications for box handler? ( i probably don't meet those either)

Can't comment about the salary, as that is dependent upon the applicant's experience (based on what has been stated before by others). Out-of-state residents can work in Washington, but you will have to get a Washington driver's license within 30 days of establishing your residency (as outlined here).

Salaries, like our pay rates for freelance work, aren't something we discuss publicly. If you apply and get to the interview stage, that's when we share the details on pay.

When you think entry level salary, just remember how much you'll be saving on basic necessities by not having to buy Paizo products anymore. You get a copy as a benefit. Which means that the what you earn can go to luxuries like food and shelter.
Copies of all products produced by Paizo Publishing

I actually did get in contact with you guys a while ago regarding the Pathfinder Developer job, but I didn't end up applying. I live in Australia (so that's one downside) but I also found the basic salary offering to be pretty small by comparison to entry level jobs I can get with my qualifications over here. Shame, really, 'cause I admire the Paizo team's ethos and I would've loved to get on board with the development of the best RPG in the market!

If only I had some InDesign experience... and lived in Washington.

Agreed. Folks often don't realize just how important warehouse work is.
Glad that you folks give it the respect that the people who work there deserve. However, one would have to move to Washington for any positions (As mentioned), and I am staunchly one of those 'Sure, those places are nice to visit, but once you live in San Francisco..Well, not moving any time soon. Plus, while writing and developing for my favorite company would be great, I make a gang of cash bartending (Which also affords me time to 'waste', rolling dice... XD).
Folks who are thinking about this, jump for that Ring, it might just be the best work decision that you have ever made. Good Luck, all

I believe that's industry wide. In my opinion, many who work for RPG companies are motivated by something other than money, which will of course tend to drive wages down. It all depends on your circumstances and what is most important to you. :)

bartender.... hmmm I bet that makes a really good job for playing this game.
Wasn' the predecessor for DnD basically founded/played IN pubs and bars?
![]() |

I applied (sent my resume and salary qualifications) a few days ago, should I expect a response whether or not my application gets accepted?
Also, how long does Paizo typically keep the position open before reviewing resumes?
I am excited about this opportunity... I hope I at least put forth a good showing, even if I don't end up getting the job. ^_^
Mahalo nui loa to Paizo for this opportunity!

Well, it does make the 'You're All in Bar...' line a bit more awesome.
Actually, 5 of the 6 players in my Kingmaker game either work there with me or have done so. 4 of us are (Were for one, he is now a Nurse) bartenders, even...

::is a scientist and thus unlikely to fit any job Paizo ever offers::
Weren't they looking for astrophysicist to add extra moons to Golarion? All depends upon your field of study and if it can be applied to gaming. SJG seems to take a lot of freelance work from people with a wide focus, sometimes scientific, judging by authors' bios in Gurps books.

I just wish Paizo were hiring me.
::is a scientist and thus unlikely to fit any job Paizo ever offers::
Ditto, plus engineer. However, the amount of clear writing that we have to do in our jobs makes me think that if one of our ilk could demonstrate suitable 'gamer chops', we'd be in with an equal chance regardless of degree.
As with any job, your method of contact and initial impression is what opens the door.
There's an interesting post around here somewhere with the list of degrees held at Paizo. Some biological sciences and an architect on the list if I recall correctly.
Edit:
Weren't they looking for astrophysicist to add extra moons to Golarion?
Really?!!
Hey, over here! *waves*

Oh, we're not missing that position at all. I've got it covered.

I was hoping I might qualify for the Pathfinder developer job, but the location bit pretty much kills it for me. In an age where people in Tokyo can engage in conversations with people in New York in real time, distance and location is still such a major problem with working even in an intellectual media. Bummer. lol
There's also the degree requirement, and I do not have those degrees. :(
