I've ran Call of chuthulu once. It was in a game store and I had regular game store patrons as NPC. It kind of worked out with the local setting. Felt a little bit like "the mist". was fun for a short short campaign but It's not something I would want to run all the time.
All I know about playing Call of Cthulhu, I learned from reading Knights of the Dinner Table and their parody of it, Scream of Kachoolu (I think). And that is, BURN ALL THE BOOKS!!!

The Mist is one of my favorite movies.

In case people are wondering, it's wonderful to be surrounded by Good-aligned people. While it wasn't technically illegal to drive 200 miles to get a vaccine, with California's appalling "every county for itself" approach it was likely taking a local's vaccine and hampering their efforts to get their population vaccinated. (Tulare has an appallingly low vaccination rate, and they're spending a lot of money trying to get people to come in and get vaccinated in spite of their misgivings.)
The Fake Russian's wife (I should just call her "the Tsarina") knew this, and kept searching, and found us vaccinations in Albany for Tuesday instead of Saturday. Unfortunately, since Alameda county is still way behind almost every other county (because most of Alameda's population is urban and willing to get vaccinated), it's still in the "only 50+" stage.
We consulted the kids. Impus Major's quote (almost verbatim): "So, we can drive 9 hours on the chance of getting vaccinated by taking someone else's vaccine, or you and mom can be protected and I can wait a couple of weeks. As long as you two get vaccinated, what's two more weeks when we've already been stuck in this idiocy for 13 months?"
Impus Minor's attitude was similar: As long as GothBard and I get our vaccines on Tuesday (and we have the confirmed appointments), he didn't mind waiting 2 weeks because, "I'm not really at much risk at all."
Feels better, only costs me 3 days, and I don't have to make a 200-mile road trip, then fight to try to get my second vaccination closer to home. Win-win!

I won't name names, but what's distressing is the number of people who are reacting negatively towards our decision! "What?!?!? You had an appointment for all four of you and you cancelled it?!?!? What were you thinking? It's not like they would have kicked you out if you drove all that way and then they found out you weren't local."
Er... yes. It happens. And beyond that, it's the "good" thing to do, and, rationally, considering we've managed 389 days of lockdown so far without any family member getting infected, I just don't feel roughly 18 more days is that big a deal.
But hoo, boy, to them it is!
Been yelled at 3 times now...

Consider there are some people who would kill for that injection. It may not be wise to share this story.

I would have made the same decision.

By cancelling he makes it so that those people have one less person to wait in line behind. They should be happy.

Saw the movie. Didn't really think it was that good. Of course, I've never been very impressed with anything based off Stephen King. Never read any of his books, so I don't know if it's just the adaptations that make it unenjoyable for me, or the source material.

Greatly depends on the movie for me. I did not like the ending of the mist. It felt to jarring but It was made very unique because of that.

For me, mostly, it's a problem with adaptation. His storytelling is generally better than what they show in the films.

Saw a stream of a church doing their Easter Passion Play. As they were getting ready to "nail" Jesus to the cross, the whole thing fell apart. Everyone stood there silent for a bit, obviously not knowing what to do, until one of the guards ad libbed "Well, I guess you get away with it this time, Jesus."

I have heard that from other people, but horror/thriller/whatever-you-want-to-classify-it-as isn't really my thing, so I haven't tried reading any.
