Hi, John!
Ah, nothing like wondering, "Hey, I thought it was supposed to rain like crazy today, what gives?" and bringing up the local radar...
...only to see a massive front already over the bay and looking like it should hit us within 5-10 minutes.
Glad the kitties are in!
EDIT: And the only proper way to celebrate the rain is to dance nekkid in it!

Oh, I'm pretty sure you would have pinged me by now, but does anyone else on FaWtL play FFXIV?
We're having a wedding tomorrow at 11:00 am PST (er, a "ceremony of eternal bonding") and I figure I should make sure anyone here who plays gets an invite.
Which I believe is exactly "me", but why not ask?
EDIT: And yes, it's a "wedding" of the traditional, "Wow! Look at all the keen swag you get if you get married in-game," variety, so silliness is welcome. Respectful silliness, but silliness.

I swear, living with my family is like being the only PC in the party to spend any points on Perception.
GothBard: The curried noodles last night were good, but I couldn't find the raisins, shredded coconut, or chutney, so they could have been better. But I did find the peanuts!
In the morning, NobodysHome opens the cabinet to get his dried cranberries and has to move the peanuts can... off of the bag of shredded coconut...

There was chutney, too. It was just hot chutney and she prefers mild.

GothBard: LOL, why?
NH: "OMG! This song is amazing! Who is it?"
"Nightwish?!?!? Again!?!?!? Oh, gods! I'm adding all their stuff to my Spotify!"
"Aaaaaaargh! 90% of their stuff is utter crap, and the other 10% is the best metal you'll ever hear! Damn them!"
GB: And yeah, Nightwish is frustrating that they're so hit or miss, but their hits are dead on
NH: I hear songs that are so good that I actually get up to go over and turn up the volume and see who it is.
And it is always Nightwish.
And then I put on the Nightwish Spotify channel.
And throw up a little in my mouth.

I dumped my perception too actually. Failed to find a packet of powdered milk today, but I was looking at its previous location, which was the tupperware container one shelf up.

OK. So, I absolutely understand that snowfall in a major city is significantly different from snowfall in a small mountain town.
But reading things like, "5-10" is nothing to sneeze at, even in Canada", I wonder whether I've been living in a parallel universe.
I was in Chicago when a 6" storm hit. It was mildly inconvenient. I put the car away, put on my heavy snow gear, and went on foot everywhere. I even got accused of being a yeti for being outside in such weather.
But I grew up spending 2-4 weeks in the Sierras every year, in "rustic" cabins on windy roads, where it was routine to get 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) of snow over the course of two or three days. One year was all kinds of fun when we got 7 feet (just over 2m) in 36 hours. Most of our "free" time was shoveling the doors so we wouldn't get trapped in the cabins, then going down to the "parking lot", digging down to find the cars, and putting up a bunch of markers so the snow blowers would know where the cars were when they came through.
Yeah, there is nothing so awe-inspiring as spending a couple of days in a cabin, going down the hill, and finding your cars gone. Not washed away or stolen; just buried under so much snow there was no longer any sign they had ever been there.

Well, ****.
Just got my tax return. My accountant was wrong. My taxes went UP by $7300 thanks to the tax "cut", and so I owe the IRS $2300.
I am... displeased...
EDIT: For the record, my state refund stayed at $2000, so it's all of a net loss of $300. Not exactly a bank-breaker for me. But the difference between, "Our $7000 tax refund will pay for at least 1/4 of our Eurpoean trip," and, "It's time to stop eating out... at ALL... if we're going to afford the trip," is pretty darned annoying.
EDIT 2: And for those curious as to how lower tax rates end up in increased taxes, that $10,000 cap on my mortgage and state taxes drove my deductions from $51,000 to $24,000. So yeah, an extra $27k in counted income when you were still paying your mortgage and your state taxes hurts.

Or any other new digital game.
Because self-sabotage.
Thanks for the invite tho. :)

This is my experience with like 99% of artists I listen to. Like 1-3 songs each that I love, and the rest is nails on a chalkboard.
I think I can count on one, maybe two hands the number of non-greatest-hits albums I can listen to straight thru...
Paul Simon's Graceland
Paul Simon's Mother and Child Reunion
Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing
...Um...I'm sure there's one or two more...

Shows the difference in our tastes, I'm pretty much the opposite. I like 90% or more of their stuff, with a small handful of songs I don't particularly care for. They're easily one of my favorite bands, doubly so with their newest lead singer, who's by and far the best of the three they've had.

Just had a really frustrating medical experience. Spoilered for uncomfortable experiences:
My doctor wanted to test me for ENT viral infections, using this little brush on a bendy stick.
Like three inches up my nose.
Without any kind of numbing agent.
Now just a few months ago I had an NG tube up my nose and down my throat with no numbing agent, and somehow this was worse. I think because it tickled awfully on top of having something shoved up my nose. I couldn't do it. The nurse got it barely up my nose and I couldn't help flinching away. I tried to do it on my own, couldn't. So I asked for numbing nose spray, or any other way to do it, and all I got were blank stares and nope, no other way, we don't even have anything to numb you on hand.
And I can't believe that this is standard procedure. Like, even the little bit of trying I did was awful. And I've gone thru some pretty awful physical experiences in my life.

Well, only if you live in New York or California. Where else is a total mortgage/state tax load of $37,000/year considered even remotely a possibility?
Most houses in the country just don't cost that much.
It was a well-aimed but short-sighted blow.

Not normally. Of course, Cyz was a contractor for half of last year, which is all counted as self-employed income. Pretty sure she put some of that in savings to cover the tax.

Yeah, only time I got audited and nailed with a penalty was when I was a private contractor and forgot to pay the 15% on $2000 in income. The penalty was $1300!
So I hired an accountant, and haven't looked back since.

So.
I am in the hospital.
I FINALLY went to the doctor for my cough today, as it has been hanging around for a month and has lessened but it keeps me from laying flat to sleep and has me bringing up multicolored phlegm. The doctor pokes and prods and feels me up and swears my lungs are clear but with an astonishingly high blood pressure demands I go to the er. They take me and do more poking and prodding and say that my blood pressure is so high it is affecting my kidneys and heart and will not let me leave until it and another thing they are looking at in my blood work have gone down.
I am not in any pain, nor am I laboring to live, but I did have an issue with breathing at work this morning that I blamed on the cough but could be due to this blood pressure issue. We will see. For now I am taking the meds they give me and am going to get some rest.

Hey all.
So I got a story now gran will get this more then most but I think everyone should understand the problem here.
So guy comes in just now 11 o clock whose stay was for last night. He was upset that we took his stuff out of his ex-room. (he did not tell us he wanted to stay another night until just then.) He I guess expected us to see his stuff in the room and just assume he would need another night.
Fortunately housekeeping always does a good job getting all the guests stuff together so it was easy to find and all put together.
(oh and he smelled like alcohol too)

Yeah, such a nice example of why I didn't even last a year in retail. "What you do mean, you didn't read my mind and cater to my every whim, without my saying a word to you!?!?!? The fact that my stuff was there was an OBVIOUS indication that I planned to stay another night. What do you mean, you GAVE MY ROOM TO SOMEONE ELSE?!?!?! That's it! Let me talk to your manager!"
Yeah, *I* remember THOSE customers. (Video store, not hotel, but same idea. "I turned in this tape yesterday, but I want it back because I didn't finish watching it. For free. And I'll get upset if you rented it to someone else.")

Retail and food service are the jobs to have if you want to end up hating humanity. Like if there were real life super villains they would be ex-retail workers and I would support them.

I disagree, I've worked for a total of 7 years in retail in my life and while there were plenty of examples of how terrible and ugly people can be, I also saw countless examples of people trying their best.
