*Gets dressed*
Good morning, everyone.
I wish that I could say that I had a good weekend, but I was sick on Saturday. I had severe nausea ( without drinking ) followed by what typically follows and a mad rush to the bathroom. All right after dinner. Must have been some sort of stomach virus, I assume.
But, I feel better, now.

We got a "maybe in September...depends on this second wave stuff"
And we are deemed, rightly or wrongly, essential...so we are open...just not allowed in the office.
I'm concerned about the second wave here. People are starting to act as if this is podunk, not NY. I am genuinely concerned for public transportation, especially our subway.

Things are relatively calm in KS right now, and I'm not using public transit so my exposure to non-fellow employees is thankfully minimal. Masks will continue to need to be a thing, and keeping sanitizer on-hand, so basically just like Old Job more or less. If I can make it thru the training period on that, I'm home free.

My technician in Arizona contracted COVID 19, as did his 2 yr old son. His wife and 4(?) month old daughter are thus far ok.
He didn't have a lot of PTO built back up because he used most/all of it when his daughter was born. He burned what he had available last week, but today he's lying in bed with his laptop and doing what he can because his wife doesn't work. He either works while fighting COVID...or they become homeless...
Great system we have here.
What's that? The President has asked the Supreme Court to strike down the law that forms the backbone of our entire existing health system? Our system sucks, but I don't think whole sale destruction of the existing system without a replacement in the middle of a pandemic is the brightest move.
Like...it's so bad even William Barr thinks it's a step too far...

As I said earlier, with that many people in one place, even 99% of people acting right leads to thousands of f*&~ ups.
Just like biking on major roads: Be careful and assume everyone else is an idiot.

I assume that even on the smallest and inconsequential side streets. Ride free or die.

Sounds less like a stomach bug and more like a bit of spoiled food taking the express route. Either way, glad you are feeling better and hope you remain so.
Quitting caffeine sucks. 70 hours and headache in full force. Another day and that should abate somewhat. Only 3 more weeks for drinking water and la croix to become a "habit."

The Vagrant Erudite |

La Croix is awful. I'd rather have unflavored seltzer than that nasty stuff.
Tastes like someone accidentally spilled medicine into a carbonator.
I keep a case of seltzer in the fridge for when I need bubbles, personally.
I feel you on caffeine. I still haven't been able to quit, but I did switch to black coffee. It's a step.

Nylarthotep |

Never drank much coffee. Was a tea drinker. But it is time to quit. My schedule is pretty flexible right now, so sleepy issues are not a big deal. Likewise, all my triathlons are canceled, so my training can take the hit associated with shortness of breath from quitting.
Irritability is an issue, but there is an ancillary stressor already, so I might as well double down on that part of withdrawal and just be a grumpy old fart for a week or so.
I really only drink plain water when backpacking or exercising. I almost have to have some flavor, even if it from a badger's anal gland.

So, I'll chime in and swear by SodaStream machines. Instead of buying 3-5 cases of Crystal Geyser every Costco trip to support my and Impus Minor's addictions to carbonated water and dealing with the inevitable guilt of throwing out all that plastic, we go through a single canister a month, which we can then turn in to get refilled while we start in on a new one.
Massively cheaper, less waste, and we can make the water as bubbly (or not) as we please.
I've never bought any of the flavor packets, so I can't comment on those.
Yeah, I'm a "plain water, nonfat milk" kind of guy.
Whee?

Still looking for a new flavored seltzer. We used to always buy the Kroger house brand, but we don't shop at Kroger anymore, La Croix tastes stale and too alkaline to me (I *think* that's what I'm tasting, I could be talking completely out of my backside), and WW won't let me buy anything bottled by the Coca Cola company for reasons I don't understand, nor are we allowed to get a Soda Stream because politics. Waterloo is too sweet and too expensive and WW doesn't like the Sprouts house brand.
It's almost enough to make me start drinking tap water, but honestly, I'd rather dehydrate.

The Kirkland house brand is not terrible. Not great, but not terrible. If you have a costco nearby. Bubly is a bit stronger flavor. I can tolerate almost any of theirs except cherry. I really only happen to say la croix, because that is what is at my elbow as I am working today. Along with a yeti of ice water.

WW's granddaddy used to say it a lot.
They are a lot of fun!
In related news, Crookshanks rescued her first toad at work today.

Cherry Bubly is pretty much robutussin with bubbles.
