Total curiosity, since we have some Midwesterners and New Yorkers out there: Is warming up the car still "a thing"?
I know that in winter when it's 5 degrees outside you don't dare move the car until the engine has heated enough to let the defroster work its magic.
But on a sunny 60 degree morning in the late summer?
(Yes, we've won the "parking war" and reclaimed our spot, but I still have to listen to cars idling for 5-10 minutes before moving, because apparently wasting gas and filling my neighborhood with fumes is still "a thing".)

I never warm my car up if it's above freezing, but generally only do it if it's really cold, like -20 or colder.
If you don't have an ice scrapper under your passenger seat, you're obviously not from around here.
But a CD case works in a pinch (like say, your kids take it inside put it in their room).
Correction: I never warm my car up if it's above zero.

I remember our first winter in Seattle, it was 50 degrees in December which was damn near tropical for us, and we're waiting at a bus stop in shorts and and t-shirts waiting to go downtown to see Lord of the Rings and everyone else is in jackets and b###+ing about how cold they are, and I ask a lady "is it always this warm in winter" and she gave me a look and said "you're not from around here, are you..."

You don't really need to warm up a modern car. But some people do just so they don't have to scrape the windows and have warm seats.

I know of people that do it, but what I've heard from people who I trust on the matter is it's entirely unnecessary with newer cars. I do let it warm up if it is below freezing (just for a minute or so if it is just below freezing, longer if it is truly frigid.)

I have a friend who moved from Rochester, NY, to Los Angeles. He keeps a scraper hanging in his garage to remind himself of what he used to have to do.

I purpose everyone living on the west coast has to spend five days in the rockies, midwest or northeast getting up every morning and going to work.
Whatever perspective they get from such an experience is completely secondary to the hilarity of watching them try to adapt. :-)

Those weird moments when you're not sure whether you've made incomprehensible posts, posts that are too good solidly argued or otherwise stated to disagree with directly (even if someone doesn't like or agree with the premise), posts that are understandable or comprehensible yet come from such a mindset so alien that no one seems to know how to have meaningful dialogue with them, or you're on a large number of "ignore" lists. Hm.
I get those a lot.

L5R has ended with my former character, having been overcome by taint from using too much maho after leaving the party, as the last boss. We killed him, but not before he killed the mage in charge of maintaining a huge chunk of the shadowlands wall's maintenance.
So, we took out the big bad, but an army of demons is poised to tear the wall down and invade, so...
There's something satisfying about knowing my old character caused the end of Rokugan.
Now now...The Spider do not make drastic use of maho unless it is outside of the lands of Rokugan. That you have used maho while bearing the name of Daigotsu means you are a ronin, and a dangerous one at that. You must be destroyed, and a Susumu of no small skill must be assigned to mop up the damage you have done to the name you once bore.

My mother and I have regular arguments about the need to "warm up" the car. I have been late several times with her at the wheel because the car needs to "warm up". The car does not need to warm up as it was made in the 90s. But you can't tell her that, as it will start an argument.

Yes, it's odd. I hope they catch whoever did it, as they could stil be a danger.Just heard about the dumpster bomb in Chelsea. Freehold seems to be alright, hope CH and any other New Yorkers are too!

Indeed, this seems more weird than anything else. However, a pressure cooker explosive device(thankfully not exploded) was found at the scene, and at least one other non exploded device. We need to find out more about what happened.

It was a nice respite, but yes a bit colder in winter is preferred.
Despite all my complaining in March winter is alright.
As long as it's relatively mild (above zero) has lots of snow, and it wraps by the beginning of April.

Let's talk about work. Chill dude general manager just handed in his resignation because he's tired of working 60 to 80 hours a week just to hear his boss keep demanding he pull some magic bootstraps out of his ass or something. The assistant manager is powertripping mad balls even though the district manager told him flat out he's not going to be the general manager. The district manager hasn't picked a manager yet, but he's making all sorts of noises about discipline and strict standards and whupping us into shape and getting the union under control (as if they ever do anything), so it is going to be somebody uptight as all hell. Union steward is still telling everybody else how to do their jobs while not doing her own, union won't respond to my calls about getting screwed over on mileage from the hours I did in another city, and my department head keeps upbraiding me without giving me a chance you explain myself (in which I'd tell him the general manager gave me my marching orders and I followed them).
I quit. I've got school, and I need to figure out how to jam self directed trigonometry into my schedule while learning how to drive. I'm jumping off this train before the wreck, because I don't have the time, energy, or inclination to pick up the pieces.
