Those interested in more Japanese themed monsters should check out our Kaidan setting material. A sample of which is in this month's Pathways, for free. Free monsters include the Yuki-onna and a koori no oni.

Other japanese monsters statted up in the modules include the hebi-no-onna, the ushi-oni, the hone-onna, the bakeneko, the kama-itachi, the sagari, the jorogumo, the bachi-hebi and a bachi-hebi-oni.

Would like to see time elementals updated.

I second that! For every five ten serious monsters, we shouls have at least one whacky one that can be used in off the wall ways, but can still (if done correctly) be used in a serious games. And believe it or not, I can actually think of a few serious uses for giant evil killer-tomatoes.

I wouldn't mind more material for aquatic based games, maybe some playable options that don't immediately start to die if they leave the water.

On that note, some Amphibious creatures, that work almost as well out of the water as in the water. That way players who want to have sea based games aren't immediately SOL if the game takes them suddenly into a desert terrain.

Archon, Feather (each feather in their enormous feathered wings can become as sharp as a sword edge)

Agathion, Loxonal (great battle champions of celestial armies who assist the Planetar in waging war)

Azata, Nedagha (Azata of freedom who liberate the oppressed [anyone get the reference in the name? {^_~}]

Dragon (Chromatic), Yellow (Dragons of the jungle who are both vile and treacherous [so much so other chromatic dragons rarely trust them])

Dragon (Metallic), Iron (Dragons that pride themselves as hunters of evil and assassins of fell beasts other heroes cannot challenge)

Dragon (Primal), Warden (Dragons of the Plane of Abaddon who seek to mirror the hopeless captivity of their native plane whether they go)

Dragon (Primal), Radiance (Dragons of the Plane of Heaven who seek to route out evil and protect the meek)

Vampire Lord [Template] (Princes and Kings amongst the lords of the undead they are known for their frighteningly terrible powers)

Templates, lots and lots of templates. Pathfinder has been really low on templates and it's about time they get some love.

An update of the creatures appearing in the various 3.5 Golarion products and adventure paths.

Monsters based on non-western mythology (Australian animals and creatures from aboriginal myth would be cool)

More Lovecraftian critters (One can never have enough)

More original and completely new monsters.

More forgotten classic monsters from earlier editions(many of the old Mystara monsters and Ravenloft monsters come to mind)

Dear sir, flumphs are serious business.

Forget their horrid depiction in previous versions of the game and some (unfathomably) popular comics, in Pathfinder they are serious business.

Not sure how many of those would actually be up for grabs.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

2 people marked this as a favorite.

How about sitting down and spending some time coming up with some new original creatures.

I would suggest having art directors and writers at Paizo work as teams to come up with original creature creations. Or at the very least an RPG Superstar type creature contest with 1/3 of the Bestiary 3 containing winning entries.

Better yet how about hiring several concept artists like the video game companies do when they are developing new ideas/concepts/stories for games. The assignment is to generate 30 quick sketch creatures in two weeks. Then the Paizo staff reviews the sketches and starts developing original creatures based on the sketches.

I would like to see something other than the same-old same-old.

I would prefer to see new NPC races that my players will beg me to play as PCs. (ex: Dhampir, Agathion, Ulpinal, and Urdefhan)

I would like to see a race of creatures as powerful as dragons that are not dragons.

My point is this.

The Pathfinder RPG is about moving the ball forward while introducing and embracing new ideas.

3.5 material is plentiful and easy enough to update if it has not already been updated on the Paizo site or other GM and player sites.

There are already more dragons, demons, devils and fey than I can use, or will ever use.

Also, it's not called Dungeons & Dragons anymore. Its called Pathfinder now, which means exploring new paths and finding new creatures.

Can never have too many fey

Love to have more dragons but most of them should be CR10 or less

I have had my fill of devils and demons as well

I would like it, that when Paizo uses a monster of legend/folklore that they keep AS close to the original source as possible and not mutant them to fit a need (looking at the pseudo-genasi)

You get me. I mean, it would actually be easy as all get out to make. It just amused me, but that's probably because I bought the 4 pack and watched them last week.

@ idwraith: Corgi-people?

Sure. Not necessarily Corgi, but yeah, little clumsy dog-men.

My friends are VERY unhappy with me because of the rather large dex penalty. They dislike the fact that I point out that not everything small IS graceful. I mean, have you ever seen a bulldog or a badger? Clumsy as all get out.

The spot where it reads Darkvision 60' is a mistake. That should read "Scent"

idwraith wrote:

Well...-4 seems a bit excessive.

Bulldogs, I'll give you. Provided we're talking about the standard English bulldog, that's a shining example of an animal bred for appearance over function.

Badgers, though? They might look clumsy when they're just waddling around like they do, but that's mainly a function of being short, squatty animals with stubby legs and huge claws. They're related to weasels; they've got some reflexes on them.

I was starting to think I had killed this thread.

You notice people don't react with the same shock at races that suffer a -4 to mental stats. I mean, if they suffered that to charisma (like the Duergar or Svirfneblin) people don't think it's nearly so bad.

That's because Charisma is usually considered a throwaway stat.

I don't agree with that assessment. While I'm no power-gamer, unless it's compensated by a significant advantage, -4 to any stat in the name of balance seems a bit excessive.

Just for the record: a significant advantage, to me, would be something like flight. I can see a race taking a significant hit to, say, Strength or Con for flight, even if their maneuverability was rotten. And it'd kind of make sense that a flying race would be somewhat frail.

Given that most of the flying creatures in OUR world have weaker bones (thus less dense) to allow them to be light enough to fly, it does make sense that they'd suffer a con penalty. I agree with you there.

I want more Youkai variety, not just Oni.

I am sure the Bestairy III will only have 4-6 Oni and plenty of other "Youkai" monsters.

I'd agree that it is excessive because the precedent set for pathfinder is that all racial modifiers add up to +2 whereas this one adds to +0 with no real advantages to it.

Will Yuki-Onna be present and be a zero hit die race?

Grand Lodge

Yeah way more Psychopomps.
And Weeping Angels from Dr Who.
And Sacred Deva Cows with enormous wisdom and race-specific protection spells.
And the bigger, tougher variety, Sacred Deva Elephants, with golden hides, bindi markings and enormous wisdoms. I want sacred creatures that don't resemble elves with wings.
I want creatures that reside in holy places of the world.
I want otherworldly creatures made out of dark matter, like bizarre versions of shadows.
I want more supernatural diseases that work like a template that can be afflicted to any mundane creature. Some examples could by limbo-spread Matter Dissonance, The Endless Rage, Blind Drinkers, Rothanded Ones, Eldritch Weep-Fire and more.
I think we should classes for common enemies, such as Ghouls and Wights taking levels in something like 'Feastbringer' or something along those lines. Or Ogres taking levels in a class called 'Brutal Guard'.
I'd like some enemies that require lateral thinking, for example, you need to sever the tail before you can properly slay the body. The hydra is a great example.

A few youkai that are 0 hit die and PC usable.

We need more fey and linnorms.

Will Paizo include some creatures from the post-dino age, like the saber-tooth tiger, and the wolly mammoth.

I'd like to see some more agathions as well. Some from the original guardinals. I'd also like to see a boar agathion(suinal?). They could be tough and bristly, but still be stalwart champions of good.

I know this has been mentioned earlier (with a dev response as well), but I like this idea too much to not repeat the request.

Expanded Summon Monster lists and the option to give the Resolute and Anarchic Templates as well.

Didn't read the whole thread, or honestly, the entire first page... but I'd like to add (or maybe reiterate):

More elementals - including quasielementals and paraelementals.

Conceptuals. Like elementals, but based around ideas rather than elements. Shadow elementals, for example, would be better described as a conceptual. It could be more obscure, though - what would a "nobility" conceptual look like? What would it's motivations be? Where would it come from? I'd say such a being would more likely form in lands with an aristocracy than not. What about a piety conceptual? A freedom conceptual? A love conceptual?

More low-level stuff - there's a bit for some specialty encounters, but your average generic campaign is pretty much limited to kobolds, goblins, orcs, skeletons, and zombies, as well as core races and a few hungry animals, for CR 1 encounters - unless you use a single enemy that the players quickly dogpile and overwhelm. It's easy to build challenging encounters for higher levels, because you can combine low level stuff, but you can't exactly have the party fight 1/4th of a dragon.

More templates.

Expanded encounter tables by terrain - again, I suppose I am thinking of low levels, but if you look at the PRD encounter tables... if I bring a level 1 party through the mountains, I can either fudge the roll so my players get tired of fighting eagles, or I risk them getting killed too easily. And may their gods help them if the party goes underground, where the lowest average CR is APL+3! Compare to the dungeon "terrain" which has a high, medium, and low table. (Actually, I seem to recall something like this in the GameMastery Guide, but I don't recall how complete it was.) Hopefully such tables would include monsters from all three Bestiaries.

More incorporeal stuff that isn't undead. Like spirits, in the shamanistic sense.

Lastly, living constructs... you already have some of the traits this kind of thing needs in the LN outsiders... forget what they are called.

Windcaler wrote:

That is a nice idea, but I don't know if they will or how much Paizo will republish into the book.

There are three things I would like to see:

1. Half-Fey template
2. Remainder of AP bestiary monsters
3. The remaining Devils and Demons that were present in the TSR D&D MMI and MMII like Chain devil.

The Exchange

Chain Devil is called a Kyton and is in Bestiary 1 (pg. 185)

They aren't a true devil any more, which I find interesting.

As for others that were in MM1, as I understand it they won't ever do Illithids, Beholders, or the Gith because they are unique to D&D.
